I didn't like the empanadas.
Pleasant experience - although many tapas restaurants in DC are much better
We did a birthday party surprise the restaurant was very accommodating with our party since we had last minute RSVP's. The service was great on top of everything the waiter was nice and helped a lot with helping our party choose the best specials. I would definitely recommend and go again.
Manager Juan and server Francisco R make this an awesome visit. My last 2 were not so great and I have been coming here for years. Bread served late and slow service. One call to Manager Juan and he took care of this visit with friends for a Wizards Playoff Game. It was nice to see our favorite server Francisco R and we have been complaining that there isn't a paella tapa dish and he arranged one for us (apparently the will introduce one later which is awesome).
Steak papas were great, so was the sherry mushrooms and garlic shrimp.
Thank you Manager Juan for an awesome visit.
Good food, especially the cheese board. Noisy atmosphere. Nice place to share a taste of many different items.
Very tasty menu and great drinks. Noise level is a bit high. Seems very popular for happy hour
I usually love La Tasca, but my most recent experience left me disappointed in regards to the wait staff. Our first encounter with our waiter was at least 15 minutes after we sat down, and was a hurried, “have you been helped?” Interaction. Our food took quite a long time, our drinks weren’t refilled until after we were finished eating and I had to flag someone down for that. I’d ordered a second round of tapas at that time, but they didn’t come. It wasn’t until the waiter approached with the check that I saw him again and mentioned it. Overall, for the prices, I’d anticipate much better service.
Our server was amazing! She was a young latina woman and she was so warm and helpful.
DON'T GO HERE ON A DATE. OR A BUSY NIGHT.
It was very noisy. I couldn't hear a thing my friend was saying, even when she was 5 inches from my face. I left there with a huge headache. The food is pretty expensive for what you get. I was looking forward to happy hour prices, but you have to sit at the bar for that, even though the website said happy hour prices for bar and lounge. I had requested to sit in the lounge but the place was PACKED. It was a Monday night, but there was a concert that night. They obviously were letting in people that didn't have reservations of they overbooked themselves. We ordered a sangria and three tapas. It took 45 minutes to get them. We never saw our waitress and it took forever to get our bill. Another server had to give it to us. Our reservations were for 6:00 and we didn't get to the concert til 8:30. It started at 7:30. We missed the opening act completely and just barely made the main act. They obviously can't handle crowds.
Perfect restaurant for pre-game or concert at Capital One Arena. We were a party of 10, food and drink came out quickly and was delicious!
Excellent dinner, well priced, great value and we can’t wait to go again soon.
Very good food and prices were typical for Washington DC
Servers intended to be excellent. There was some mis-communication on the wine order. They took care of this. Wine and small plates were excellent. The paella was absolutely terrific. Great combination of the traditional seafood. Rice was perfect.
I would return if I were in town more. There are so many good fine dining establishments in DC that I won't be back to this restaurant in the near future. It's not that I don't like it, but the competition is fierce and there is simply no room for any errors during the entire dining experience.
Food was amazing. Place was packed, there were a few events going on in D.C., because of that service was a little slow because the kitchen was backed up. I'm usually fine with that, and can understand things getting a little backed up, however a couple items/requests were missing from the ticket and the server said things weren't ordered when they definitely were. If the service is gonna be slow, at least make sure its accurate. Also our server didn't check in on us after taking our order which was a little disappointing. The food we did get was well worth the wait though.
La Tasca is an enormously popular spot for tapas -- and deservedly so. The sangria (enhanced with additional alcohol) was exceptionally good. We ordered a variety of dishes and they were all very good. There was some confusion about one of the dishes -- it was either very poorly described on the menu or we were brought the wrong dish and never did get the right one, although attempting to reorder it we got something else which we enjoyed. Service in general seemed a little confused but with a large establishment and lots of dishes coming out asynchronously that may be inevitable. All in all a very enjoyable experience and one we plan to repeat.
I don’t write poor reviews often. I honestly wish we hadn’t come. We did the caps/wiz game menu (a pitcher of sangria and four pitchers for $45). It took 15 mins for someone to take our drink order. We ordered the waters and a pitcher of sangria, specifying that we wanted to do the game day deal. They brought us sangria and no water. 30 mins after we were seated, they took our order. We picked our four tapas and again, our water. They asked us our sangria order, and I pointed to our pitcher. The server explained that “that doesn’t count because that was from earlier.” Fortunately, my fiancé is very easygoing and we probably would’ve ordered two pitchers anyway. I let it go, but was very unhappy especially because I’d already explained what our ordering plan was. The tapas were fine. They brought me a full glass of water and my fiancé a rocks glass of water (why?). Finally, we wanted to leave, and my fiancé asked for our check. 15 mins later I had to sit at the bar till our server turned around and noticed me, asked me where our table was and started that he forgot. We left and walke to jaleo for more tapas and wine and had an infinitely better experience.
TLDR go to jaleo and have a much better experience
The food was amazing! So good I almost forgot how HORRIBLE the hostess (older wearing all black) was to me and my date. If possible, I would like to speak to a manager about this “experience” with the hostess gave us: unacceptable
As a group of 4 people, we shared one tapa and two paellas. More than enough excellent food!
Me and my husband stumbled on this place years ago. I make it a point anytime im in DC to eat here!!!!
Service was very quick. Some plates were good (spinach, steak) and others way too greasy (eggplant was very thinly sliced and heavily tempura’d, shrimp was sitting in oil), and some were fine, but I wouldn’t go back for it (empanada, Manchego balls)
Went with a group of 6. Food was bland, dry and overall fair to terrible. Noise level was extreme. Inattentive staff. When we told the waitress we wanted to leave due to the noise and could we have the check we still had to wait almost 10 min for our check. Wont return.
As usual, food and service were excellent. In addition, when I called the next day to see if they had my sunglasses I inadvertently left behind, the staff was super helpful and called me back to tell me they had them and would hold them for me.
I had a large group of us meeting there before the Caps game. I was a bit nervous about how it was going to work out. However, the hostess was very accommodating and very polite. The service is always great. Thank you!
Food was not really good , waiter was good very personable
Great food, but noise level is very high.
Food was pretty good - tho I've had better tapas at other places. Our waiter wasn't the best. Rushed us to order at first, then forgot multiple items...Who wants to eat sauteed spinach and asparagus after you've had everything else?! And can't say it was a busy night - half the restaurant was empty so no excuse for not paying attention to the details.
Anyways, I love tapas so the place was worth the try but next time I'll be going to another restaurant. Barcelona has great food and better service. As does Jaleo.
Restaurant wasn't crowded and surprised that the plain bread we requested took so long. Hope it wasn't because we didn't order the paid choice. It was served cold. Tapas were decent but restaurant should offer a tapas of Paellas rather than a large plate for those of us that would like rice. There used to be a tapas with seafood and paellas but that has stopped. if they stop the steak tapas we will stop coming.
Wonderful evening and prompt service. At a busy time the waitress was there at the right moments ,not to pushy not to forgetful, just right. Will go back , will recommend.
Do not go here before a big event at the Cap. One Arena. It was a madhouse and we couldn't hear ourselves speak. We were told the kitchen was backed up when we sat down, but it took the waitress a 1/2 hr to take our order and a 1/2 hour to get our wine. I've been here before an event before and haven't had a problem (except the noise). I think they were short-staffed. The food was good though!
We had a poor dining experience this time. We had a reservation at 6pm. It took about 15 min for the server to initially acknowledge us. Our initial drink order did not arrive until 7pm. Our food came shortly after. We realized we didn’t order enough so we immediately placed another food order. By 7:30 our food had not arrived. When we asked our server, he had forgotten to put in our order. We declined to order again since we were attending a show at the arena at 7:30. We left still hungry and quite disappointed.
I was very disappointed with our latest visit to La Tasca. We ordered several pitchers of sangria and dishes. One half of the table received there food, while the others did not. Our waitress was very busy and never came back to check on us or asked if we needed anything. We left the restaurant still hungry and thirsty. We spoke with the manager the manager who was very helpful and apologetic, he covered our bill.
Some of the tapas were good but the paella was not.
Service was very slow, drinks took very long to come, they were short staffed due to some event on the main floor. We were in the basement. Food was delicious when we got it. Manager was apologetic but sitting there for 30 mins with no water is not a great experience.
I met with some friends who were from out of town. We were able to feed two ravenous carnivores and a vegetarian with ease. I enjoy coming here, and I was pleased to have shared another great experience at La Tasca Penn Quarter with my friends.
They put us in tables we requested and took care of our expediency needs
Menu was changed for the worse
The food was authentic. The service was a little slow, but the atmosphere was great. The tapas were perfect for lunch and we had a great view of the Chinese New Year parade.
Fiancé’s fave place in DC. Great tapas - good variety. Sangria is spot on. Best after 8pm for dimmer lighting. Always a good place to eat for groups or dates. Highly recommend.
Exceptional food and exceptional service. Perfect in all aspects.
Amazing food and service...I'm a regular here!!! The sangria are so delicious so many different choices.
