Since 1996 in Cruz Bay, St. John. A Favorite of locals, loyal repeats and new guests. We just moved to our new beach location as La Tapa Plage in the Wharfside Hotel Village in March of 2022, still featuring the same interesting ever changing menu including fresh local seafood, organic greens & herbs form Coral Bay, flavors with a touch of Spain & France (Basque Country), Germany and Caribbean. Our goal is to make you feel welcome, cozy and inspired by our great wines, delicious food, good service in a beautiful atmosphere. ---Open for dinner service at 5PM Friday through Wednesday. For parties larger than 6, please call the restauarant at 340-693-7755.---We will be open for Thanksgiving, but closed on Christmas Day.-**We do not have high chairs or booster seats. If you need either, we do have bench seating in the dining area that work's best for small children. Please request bench seating when making your reservation.**

Alex the owner and Chef was so gracious to come spend time with us. Michele the manager was very helpful and attentive. Service and food were outstanding!!

Outstanding food, service and views! Hands-down, the best meal I had in St John. Everything was expertly prepared and the ingredients were top notch. You could really taste the quality. We ordered the soup of the day which was this amazing tomato soup with house made mozzarella. An amazing start to dinner. My husband and I wanted to eat more tapas style so we ordered primarily small plates and one large. We got the mussels, the lamb meatballs, the duck confit and the tuna main plate. Everything was so fresh and flavorful. I would not pass up on the lamb and duck dish! So tasty. We ordered a duck dish from Dave and Jerry’s Steakhouse the next night and it did not compare at all. We had the house made sorbets and ice cream and they were the perfect end to the meal. Our server was the nicest woman ever. She took the time to explain the origin of the restaurant and owner’s history and you could tell she took pride in working there. I can’t wait to go back here next time. This is the restaurant I would go back to over and over if I was in St John and we tried several while we were there.

Dinner at La Tapa was delicious! The house made mozzarella with eggplant was a standout, followed by a beautifully prepared steamed artichoke, accompanied by a rich cheese fondue and a vibrant veggie plate—thoughtfully curated by the chef. From the Platos Grandes, the piment d’Espelette–dusted local yellowfin tuna was exceptional—paired with green papaya, citron, avocado, and crispy herb polenta. Every bite was balanced and flavorful. We ended on a refreshing note with a smooth mango sorbet. A special shoutout to our server, Zach, who was incredibly helpful and knowledgeable, especially in guiding us through the vegetarian options. Five stars for La Tapa and owner/chef Alex!! We’ll definitely be back.

LaTapa is a favorite of ours!!! Our server was Lou, and she was so pleasant and spot on w service! The gazpacho was excellent!! Can’t beat the views. We popped in without reservations a few nights before and sat at the bar, Blake took great care of us!!! We’ve always been happy there!!!

This was our third time to this restaurant over three visits to the island. Unfortunately we had high expectations based on our previous visits. Nothing was the same or better. We were 5 people and our total bill was $540. The young man who was our server was newly returning to the wait staff. We had 2 vegans in our party and in the past, this restaurant was accommodating. That is not the case now. We had to wait 10 minutes to get water then we ordered drinks which took forever because on a busy Saturday night, they had only one bartender. This bartender screwed up our martinis which is the easiest drink to prepare. We ordered one round of drinks which arrived with the bread and appetizers. The only tasty, well prepared and value for money were the appetizers which included tuna tartare, 3 small beef skewers and the baccala and lobster croquettes. The vegans had salad. The waiter described a delicious vegetable ensemble for the vegans as a second course. Nothing that he described was in their dish. In fact, each fish was to include half an artichoke with sauce which he forgot to tell the chef which he told us upon serving the main course. The 1/4 each artichoke arrived for each vegan after we all finished our main course. The waiter thought he was being kind by stating that he won't charge us for the artichoke. We ordered a second round of drinks after we finished our appetizers which arrived after we finished our main courses. My sister no longer wanted her martini and sent it back. He said that he would have to clear it with his manage to not charge us for it. I had the paella which was tasteless, nothing like the last. I wanted the special of Red Snapper. When I ordered it, I was told 10 minutes later that there are none left. I was surprised because it was early in the evening. Finally, dessert arrived. It looked like we received desserts plopped on a dish in a diner. I understand there is a new chef owner.who should consider getting an expert partner to run it.

We had a delicious dinner with great service. The view from this restaurant is amazing. It is a must stop on our trips to St John.
