La Taberna del Alabardero Ratings and Reviews
This is our go to restaurant in D.C. when we want everything to be perfect and enjoy the company of close friends. My wife was cold. They produced a lovely purple Merino wool shawl that matched her ensemble. The only reason for the 4 star food rating was the pork shoulder was a little tough. But why complain when everything else is superlative? It was, oionce again, a great meal.
Overall, a good experience.
It's a very nice authentic Spanish restaurant with a good tapas menu.
There is great outdoor seating and the interior decor is gorgeous.
However, we ordered a bottle of sparkling and tap water. They accidentally brought and poured bottle of sparkling and flat water. Even after we told them we had not ordered the bottle of flat and they apologized for the misunderstanding, they still charged us for the bottle of flat water! This was not OK. They should not have done that.
This was my first time here and I thoroughly enjoyed the experience. We ordered tapas only and it was very sufficient for a 2 person lunch. The prices were a little bit more expensive than I had anticipated and without having any alcohol, our bill was still almost $80.00 for 2 getting only 4 tapas. But the service was excellent - our water glasses were always full. The warm bread was fresh and delicious. Thank you!
Delicious meal in a traditional Spanish setting. The service is impeccable yet friendly. We enjoyed the tasting menu with wine pairing. The dishes were beautiful and each wine was described to us by the outstanding Spanish sommelier - pairings were perfect!
I invited my son for lunch after his graduation ceremony. The food was excellent and so was the service. Friendly staff since you come in. Evey single time I have come to La Taberna I have ordered different things and they have always been delicious--never disappointed, from salpicon de mariscos to paella valenciana. It is absolutely worth the driving. I wish I could afford to come more often! : )
I have been a Patron for decades. I have travelled almost all around the world . I have dined in fine restaurants in Paris and other gastronomical holy sites. The T de A remains my very favorite. I take pride in bringing friends, family, and business associates here. None every left without awe.
Having travelled extensively in Spain, I say this restaurant reflects the finest of Spanish culinary skills, service, and ambiance. I love Tex Mex food, too, but do not even try to order a taco here. They would not have any idea what you are talking about. I also have experienced fine restaurants in Mexico. This is not Mexican cuisine, either. Pure Spanish. For romance, ask for table 19.
I love this place and try to go whenever I am in DC. I have worked in Spain for over ten years and this is like spending an hour or two in Madrid. Great food and great service. They are very accommodating when I am alone and always make me proud if I bring friends or family.
My boyfriend and I went for our first year anniversary. They greeted us with a very nice card and champgne.
We had tapas and paella and everything was delicious. Wine was very good too!
Everyone there was very friendly and attentive, and the ambiance was great. Not noisy at all so you can have a conversation with no problem.
Overall a very nice evening and delicious dinner.
We booked LTDA for our wedding anniversary date. Just by clicking on Open Table's "Anniversary" tab - the restaurant went ahead and took our dinner date to the next level...we arrived to find a cozy table with booth seating and a completely decorated table for 2 with rose petals adorning the entire tablecloth and a special handwritten card. We were also greeted with along a complimentary champagne toast. The staff were very attentive even though the restaurant was moderately busy. Lastly, the wait staff brought out a special dessert decorated with "Happy Anniversary". We very much enjoyed La Taberna del Alabardero and can't wait for our next dinner date there!!
My husband and I went to dinner for our first anniversary. Our honeymoon was in Spain so we wanted to go somewhere reminiscent of our trip. We ordered the croquets, cheese and ham platter, and the seafood paella. All of it was delicious. The staff was very attentive and at the end of the meal, they brought us a beautiful desert that had Happy Anniversary written in chocolate on the plate. It was beautiful and we really enjoyed it. I cannot recommend this restaurant enough. We enjoyed every minute and hope to take friends and family back in the future to give them a little taste of Spain.
This is a lovely restaurant close to the White House and Renwick Gallery. We went with another couple and and tasted each other's dishes - all of which were delicious. They had a wonderful guitar player that added to the ambiance without drowning out conversation. We will definitely be going back.
In all the years I have been using the Taberna, still my personal favourite in DC; even now that I live in Europe it is always great to be back among friends at the Taberna when in DC. Staff always friendly, courteous and very accommodating to all requests. Menus always varied, creative and always of a high, consistent standard. Hard to beat and its level of consistent high standards over 10 years is extraordinary. Never been disappointed. On my last visit for lunch with friends and an earlier visit in the week with my business partners, it was like I had never been away and everyone very impressed.........and great service from Victor.
Best of all in the DC restaurant world of intolerably noisy restaurants, Taberna del Alabardero is an oasis of civility . Beautiful decor ! Tasty tapas ! Attentive service.
Forget about the latest jet-engine test chamber when dining out in DC !

The food took us back to Spain. Everything was delicious and the service was impeccable.
Started with garlic shrimp, pork medallions in whiskey sauce and the ham croquettes. Dinner was the Paella Valencia. Apple pie for dessert. Our picks were perfect.
The restaurant is beautiful. Elegant!
An authentic Spanish restaurant. Their tasting menu with wine paring is outstanding. They surprised me with a lubina fish and Vina Ardanza red wine combination. The service was outstanding. They were prompt and knowledgeable about the dishes served. If you want to eat well, this is the establishment to select.
