La Strada Italian Kitchen & Bar, located in downtown Birmingham, is an authentic European-style restaurant offering fine Italian-style dining. Restauranteur Zharko Palushaj opened the establishment in late 2015 and will be expanding in 2023. The menu features dinner items, including an assortment of authentic Italian dishes, sweet and savory pastries, salads, and pastas - all made fresh daily. Guest favorites include the Spaghetti alla Carbonara and Margherita Pizza as well as a wide assortment of specialty honey and teas. All of our cheeses and olive oil, as well as many other ingredients, are directly imported from Italy. The restaurant has a large selection of European beer, wine, and champagne. Our guests agree that we offer the best selection of wine in Birmingham. The full bar, which stays open an hour after closing, offers a variety of specialty drinks including the popular coffee martini.

We are open Mondays for special events only and closed on Sundays.

The food is outstanding. Weekends are very noisy, and the staff too busy to be as friendly and cordial as they are during non weekends. The owner is not as visible on weekends as well. Wines by the glass are extremely limited. Nevertheless, you won’t find better Italian food anywhere.

The food is authentic and exceptional. We started with tomato and mozzarella. I actually forgot what a real tomato tastes like. Amazing yellow heirloom that was the right texture. My Chicken Limone had just the right balance of chicken, artichoke and lemony sauce. Cheesecake desert was perfect.

Hostess rude. Room so loud it was difficult to hear waitress. Food was very unimpressive. Bolognese tasted like it was out of a jar. Risotto watery and bland, and the table-side preparation of stirring in a pat of butter is a gimmicky joke. Overpriced for what you get AND they charge you a undisclosed 3.8% credit card fee on top of that.

A very enjoyable evening. Got off to a strange start when the greeter told us they were having problems with Open Table and then proceeded to disappear to do other things leaving us standing at the doorway in our coats. This lasted several minutes and then we were offered a table right by the door although the place was almost empty. We declined that and were redirected to another table which was much better. Once we were seated things improved greatly. Our server Zora was extremely friendly and attentive, taking great care of us. All our dishes were superb so the evening ended up in a very positive way.

My family and I dined here yesterday. Sadly, we had a very poor experience. We had reservations, but the hostess refused to see us until the entire party arrived but seated others who had individuals missing from their party. The hostess insisted we wait outside in the cold and didn't greet us. I picked this restaurant for my mom's birthday celebration but no one wished her despite this being on the reservation. The food was a hit or miss, some if the pastas were delicious but mine was cold and had bland flavor. Definitely overpriced, other restaurants in the area are far better. The bright light during our evening was our server who was excellent, he took great care of us and took time to explain the menu plus wines.

Overall had a good experience here. Had a reservation but still had to wait 15 minutes for our table. Not a big deal - there were a couple of seats open at the bar so a nice place to wait. Server was working their first shift at the restaurant and did a nice job overall. Food was very well prepared and tasty. If you are looking for huge portions, this may not be your place to eat. We both got meat entrees and they were both excellent. Pistachio cheesecake was excellent as well. A good looking restaurant with pleasant, traditional decor. Only one real negative. Charging a service fee to pay with a credit card seems cheesy when I am spending $200 for dinner for two. This isn't a dive bar or a gas station. Tacking on an extra $6? Weird. While a nice place with good food, I think it's a little pricey for what it is. My neat pour of Woodford Reserve was $16 and one bottle of Labatt Blue Light was $8? I get it, it's white tablecloth in downtown Birmingham. We enjoyed it but not sure we will be back.

2 of 3 dishes were not great. The food was not hot. My veal Milanese was as tough as shoe leather. The waiter was very considerate and did not charge me for my entree. Deserts were mediocre - especially, the cannoli. I am grateful for the effort and consideration, but this was an awful dinner. I had been there one before and loved my mean. Sadly, the encore was a massive fail. Apologies for being corse.

The food was fantastic. Desert was a huge disappointment. We took two bites and left the rest. The server didn’t ask if there was a problem. He told us it was a custard. When it came it was a soupy frothy liquid poured over berries.

Our first time there. Food was pretty good but the only American Chardonnay by the glass was $30 which is insane so I had a glass of Albanian Chardonnay for $17 which was actually quite good. We didn't realize the dinner was a la carte (totally our fault) but when we ordered Veal Saltimbocca the waiter never even asked if we wanted any sides or anything, so we just assumed there might be a golf-ball sized bit of potato, vegetable or starch on the plate but it was just meat, nothing else except some drizzled sauce as garnish. We also didn't realize that they charge an extra 3.5% if you pay by credit card. It had a good crowd, their overall wine list (by the bottle) is impressive, but all 4 of us went home hungry and I don't think we will return as far as Value For Money.

Veal Saltimbocca is an iconic Roman dish traditionally made with veal, prosciutto, and fresh sage leaves in a delicate white wine and butter sauce, originated in Brescia, Northen Italy and is not served with side vegetable. Credit card handling fees is something we have no power to regulate, what we did instead of adding to the food cost we decided to be transparent and put it in the end of the till.

My risoto was good but the rice was cold and crunchy. My husband’s gnocchi was good overall, but missing sauce… Some dishes and the deserts wasn’t in the menu and the waiter made me feel embarrassed for wanting to know the price…

The food was not as good as on our previous visits. Two of us ordered tea and apparently they charge $7.50 for a cup of tea!!! That's $7.50 for hot water and a tea bag. Insane. The gnocci I ordered was tasteless. The branzino was good.

Not really and ideal place for young kids but we went for my wives bday but about 10 min into the visit our 2 yr old son got upset, was crying and very loud, and we felt bad for the other customers. However, to help the situation the owner/chef came out and asked him to come in the back to help him make a pizza. Our son went back there and had a blast for 10 min pounding out the dough, adding flour, and helping throw in the cheese for our pizza, etc,....my son was thrilled from then on and when the pizza was delivered to him and his sis and they loved it! Great food but more importantly great people!

We arrived a few minutes early and were promptly seated. The table was a little smaller than we thought and we had to shift a lot of things around to get our food to fit onto the table. Other than that slight inconvenience the rest of the experience was excellent. I’d definitely come back.

Food is good. Pasta is authentic. Prices are outrageous. They will offer you bread for the table, but charge $9 for it. Ordered buttered noodles for a kid and they charged us $27 because “they don’t have a kids menu”. They will also charge you for using a credit card. Maybe next they will charge you for using the bathroom. Seems that they are taking advantage of the good reviews they’re getting since changing ownership and chefs

Wonderful experience. My husband, daughter and I went today to celebrate a promotion. The staff was beyond friendly. The chef came to our table a few times to tell us about the dishes. Multiple people would stop over and interact with our daughter. The food was amazing. I had gnocchi, my husband had short rib, and our daughter had pizza. We were all impressed.

The food was good. The staff was friendly and accommodating. The problem was that the kitchen could just not get the food out in any reasonable time frame. Everything took forever. The staff was as frustrated as the customers on how long it took to get anything out of the kitchen.

The best thing we had was the Ceasar’s salad - 5 stars for that. Chef was very nice..,,helped us. Seems like it was the waiters first day on the job. And maybe he didn’t want to wait on us.

We love this Birmingham gem. It makes us feel like we are back in Italy. Outstanding food, beautiful wines, excellent service, great ambience and location in downtown Birmingham.
