La Societe - Montreal Ratings and Reviews
Food was excellent! Our group of friends tried different things and we were all very happy with our choices. Their Rockefeller Oyster is very good despite being a little pricey on regular days (we had the Mtl a Table menu and prices). Also, the location is great, the place is beautiful and the service was impeccable! It is quite refreshing to see that some people still care about providing outstanding service. La Société is definitely a place to try or to add to your regular date spots! *
went with a large group for a bachelorette weekend brunch. was pleasantly surprised by how nice the setting was, however service was incredibly slow and with a variety of issues. Had a friend order her bacon crispy and she was reassured "all our bacon is served crispy" just for every single order of bacon to eventually come limp to the table. Additionally myself and my seat neighbor both ordered eggs over easy, mine came very over hard while hers came with perfectly runny yolk. Did not appreciate the inconsistency/delivery of the wrong level of cooked. I understand large groups can be difficult, but there were 2 large groups and very little others in the restaurant. Seems like an unreasonably poor level of service and quality for a non busy morning.
We decided to take a break from festival food after a couple of days at Osheaga, and looked up local brunch places. La Societe hit the spot perfectly! Our waiter was extremely friendly and helpful, the place is well decorated, and the food was great. My girlfriend ordered a simple ham and cheese (Gruyere) omelette which she loved. I had the lobster benedict which was outstanding. We also shared a Mount Royal, their name for yogurt, granola and berries, which happened to be very good. If I am in the neighborhood again, I would definitely go back, especially for the benedict.
Went for Sunday brunch which was really lunch. Not sure if there was/is a set brunch menu.
French onion soup, salmom tartar & croque madame were very good & served hot.
Classic eggs benedict was barely room temperature with NO plate decor or garnish, just two eggs benedicts with a slight skin from sitting around. Rather than waitng for another fresh one we asked for some HOT hollandaise sauce, it helped a bit. No consillation nor excuse nor apologie from staff. The Belgian berry waffle's were similarly not the correct temperature & pretty hard. The warmed maple syrup & whipped cream help soften the taste.
Upon looking at the menu I planned a more elaborate selection, oysters on the half shell & the lobster benedict. I wanted to take advantage of the UNLIMITED MIMOSA/CEASAR'S @ $29 but requested that all the mimosa's be included. The manager said nobody ever asked for that & at first said it was an issue of price point then it was the time to craft the house selections would take to long. Keeping in mind the resto was 75% empty & 100% empty on the bar side.
I was dissapointed & left it at that...I then looked at the menu only to notice;
Regular mimosa is OJ & Prosecco $13
Marrakech mimosa same as regular with rosewater & lemon extract $13
Moulin-Rouge mimosa Gin,lime sirop & Prosecco $13
So much for satisfying the customer with NOT such a complicated request...
Went to La Société Montréal tonight with a friend, we are on vacation in Montreal and have been cooking our own meals for the past few nights, but decided we wanted to go out and have a nice meal. We chose La Société after looking up many well-rated French restaurants in the downtown Montreal area, so we were looking foward to the nice decor, and supposedly amazing French food.
Unfortunately, the food AND the service was bad. My duck confit was terribly dry. I loved the the Leek and Vinaigrette appetizer, which was the only redeeming part of the evening. My friend's hanger steak and frites supposedly was alright, however it needed more salt, as opposed to my duck which was too salty.
What really gave this restaurant one star was the service. We waited and waited for our waiter to come and ask us for our orders and also for any sort of refill on water or drinks, even though the restaurant only had two other parties present. My friend was charged refills on her soft drink and when asked about it, our waiter mentioned that "Mcdonald's might do free refills, but nice restaurants DO NOT." Whether that is true or not, I would say it's very out of turn for a waiter to mention that. Plus, I have never experienced a nice French restaurant that charges refills on a Coke of all things. They took the refill charges off, but the attitude given was not appreciated, wrong or right.
Overall, sad experience for a place so highly rated.
We stayed at The Loews Hotel Vogue and La Societe is the Lobby restaurant. We enjoyed the well lit cozy feel of the dining room, but the bar is also warm and inviting.
The menu is typically Quebec food done in an upscale and fresh way. The Gravlax and Beef Tartar were perfect starters and delicious.
We had the Salmon and Scallops for our main courses. Both were well cooked and moist. Our only wish was that there was a bit more salt used. This is just a personal preference and in no way did the dishes taste bland.
We would recommend those who are staying in the area, and want a perfectly simple and satisfying meal, give La Societe - Montreal a try.
