The food was terrific, well prepared, tasty and interesting, not ordinary fare. They were also most accommodating in lowering the music so we could easily engage in conversation.

Delicious cassoule... and it was actually possible to hold a normal conversation with my dinner mates, as the music was low. So seldom the case these days, as most NYC restaurants are intolerably and painfully loud.

This is a wonderful gem on the UWS. Decorated like a train in France. The menu has a great story about the beginnings of the restaurant- a great NYC story. The menu has stayed basically the same for awhile- but I’m fine with it. The baked Pear appetizer is fresh and full flavored with a bit of cheese. I only had appetizers. My main course was the chèvre tarteline, which was great as a full dish with a side salad accompanying the tart. My friends had the modules, the small amount which is generous. One had the curry modules and the other with Dijon. These guys eat moules internationally and they loved them. An order of the pâté de Compagne was ordered- again a generous portion.
The dirty martini was just right .
I always look forward to going here, I like the front by Amsterdam, by a window. There is a small outside area as well.

A very nice place for a quiet dinner in the UWS. The menu has a surprisingly large number of choices for such a small place, and the execution is very good. The wine list is small, but sufficient, and the prices are quite fair.

When we sat down, the music they were playing was too loud. I asked the waitress if it could be turned down, which was done immediately. The mushroom omelettes we ordered were absolutely delicious as were the finely cut frites and salad which came with them.

This is an authentic and fine French restaurant. The chef is creative and unusually talented. Wait staff is attentive and helpful. Mainly, the food is great, from the appetizers to the main courses to the desserts. Absolutely one of the best French joints in NY.

This was our second visit. Rated about same as last time. Previously commented on limited bar (other than wine and beer). This time, staff went out of the way to try to make something equivalent to a Black (ultimately White) Russian when I commented on my prior experience - that prior attempt was iced coffee with vodka. This time they used a coffee, liquor, half and half and vodka. Not quite the same, but passable (although I probably wouldn't do it again, but that's purely an issue of taste). Most important was the attitude of the staff to try to accommodate. We were also with another couple and arrived at 5 PM for a pre-theater dinner and we dined leisurely, leaving about 6:45 to get downtown.

Tart appetizer was good. Choux dessert was good. Entries need more taste. Sauces weak: filet mignon sauce thick but not tasty, rabbit sauce needed more taste.

Our experience with our server and with the restaurant in general was excellent. She was very informative about the menu and gave us great recommendations for food and wine. Appetizers which we shared were great (the goat cheese tart and the beet salad) and our entrees were delicious. We had the hanger steak and this salmon. Service was impeccable and the ambiance was lovely.

La Sirene has delicious food, really great service and a quaint ambiance. There are very few things to improve on, maybe just the veggies that come as sides to all entrees. They were soggy and tasteless, and didn't add anything to the experience. Adding some really interesting sides to the menu would elevate the restaurant from good to great. Either way, we'll be back.

Food excellent; main dish accompanied by 4 different and lovely (presentation and taste) vegetables, making it unnecessary to order sides, salads, or even h'ors d'oevres (so sadly, we didn't get to taste any). We sat outside which kept the noise level to low (except when there were sirens) and was delightful. Wait staff couldn't have been nicer or more helpful (and not intrusive).

I'm going back next week and you'd better not take my table!

La Sirene UWS has become my favorite place for lunch on the West Side. The menu is extensive and varied, the cooking is superb, the service is wonderful and the prices are reasonable. On this visit, I had onion soup and a platter of vegetables (one of my favorite things on the menu). My guest had a croque madame. We had a splendid time.

We went at lunch for a business meeting and it was the perfect spot. Quiet, not crowded, in a very traditional calm environment. It is also the one of very few restaurants in the city which serves Cornish Hen for lunch.

The food was far better than we expected; really, among the best (and most authentic) french food to be had on the UWS. The english translations of a number of dishes are hokey, and the space is odd, but the food merits revisiting. Bravo

The food is excellent and the space is small but attractive. Great for dinner for 2-4 people in an intimate casual bistro type setting. The service was slow (don't go if on a time schedule) but worth the wait. A major objection is the wine list due to its limited selection of affordable wines consistent with its bistro image and menu. Need more $40-50 per bottle options. Another option would be to offer BYOB with a $15-20 per bottle corkage fee.

Lunch at La Sirene UWS is a remarkable experience. The food is memorable, the service is warm and welcoming, and the prices are quite reasonable. The restaurant is very attractive and the atmosphere is warm and quiet. It's ideal for a good conversation over great food and I make it my habit to have at least one lunch a week there with a friend or colleague. I think it's the best place for lunch on the Upper West Side.

We celebrated our wedding anniversary with another couple who shared the same anniversary by having a special dinner at La Sirene UWS. OpenTable enables us to write a note, so I wrote one explaining that both couples were celebrating wedding anniversaries. We were greeted with special amuse bouches and every dish seemed to be prepared with extra care, often with special, festive, touches. We ordered off the regular menu and the pork, salmon, snapper, and pasta were breathtaking. So were the appetizers and desserts. Above all, everyone from the servers to the chef, joined us in celebrating from the moment we entered to the moment we left. We've already decided that we'll be celebrating our anniversaries at La Sirene UWS next year and well into the future.

Success has created a downhill spiral here. Our fourth time and the food and experience was, frankly, lousy. The escargot appetizer was good, but Mussels had to be sent back because they were undercooked. Halibut special ($38!!) was tiny , maybe 2 ounces, and totally over cooked. To their credit, this was comp’d when we pointed it out. The linguini de la mare was long on cream, short on actual seafood. To top it off, the dining room was at least 8 degrees too warm and the bathrooms, in a dungeon down a steep flight of stairs, was 20 degrees overheated. Too bad. There are many other, and better, places in the neighborhood these days.

La Sirene is a lovely little bistro on the UWS. Truly authentic French food rather than bistro fare at Cassis. The service was spot on. Attentive and charming. The ambiance is lovely - it’s cozy, quiet and comfortable. It’s just expensive for what it is. I wish it weren’t so expensive because my husband and I would love to have a place like this for a weekly dinner out. It was $200 with the tip for a nice but not outstanding bottle of Sancerre, two appetizers and two entrees.

We had a wonderful dinner. Very relaxed, good wine, delicious food, attentive service.

We especially like that we were not rushed. Too many restaurants in the area want to flip tables for a second service, but we were able to enjoy the meal at our own pace.

Skimpy portion of hanger steak. Cold sauce with hot salmon. Vegetable side plate - - good mashed carrots, haricot verts were old, bread was stale, service was late, rushed but pleasant people. Table spacing very tight. Pate a choux profiteroles - - cardboard, vanilla ice milk, canned chocolate syrup. Meh. We won't be back.

I met with two college friends for lunch at La Sirene UWS and we had a marvelous time. The watermelon salad is an amazing and wonderfully delicious dish. (Who knew?) The ham and cream sauce 'French tortilla" was another wonder. Service was great and prices were reasonable (although the $16.00 glass of wine was a bit of a surprise -- even though it was a delicious wine). All in all, a great time was had by all and we will return.
