As been a favorite for years and never disappoints. Dan our server was excellent & made great food suggestions (& found us a special bottle of wine) The host at the desk upon entry however could use a bit more improvement . . .
Food was great! Service is excellent!
The food is consistently excellent and the service is outstanding,
Everything about this restaurant is timeless elegance
We went on prix fixe night and found that there was a lot of time in between courses. The noise level was a bit high also and as a soft talker I am not ever sure if everyone can here what I am saying. Overall though the food was excellent and La Sardine has a wonderful, warm, cozy atmosphere.
Usually love this place but the other night the service was way off. The noise level was so high I would have driven right to Costco to get hearing aids if they had been open. My main dish was the fish and it didn't taste like walleye. It sat there on the plate with a few random vegs looking sort of sad.
This place has been on my list to try for years. Finally made it and the food was so disappointing except the soufflé which was excellent. My companion’s meals and mine were underwhelming. Not even the French onion soup was good. The service was so bad and not just from our server, from everyone. Very awkward. I won’t be back.
This restaurant will provides such consistent and reliable quality of service, and delicious bistro food. The atmosphere is warm, lively and comfortable. The wait staff are warm and attentive. The food is so carefully prepared and amazing. Highly recommended for a truly satisfying evening.
I love coming back to La Sardine. I first dined here back in 2005 and have returned several times since. I enjoy their steak frites along with their escargot and buck breast dishes. Definitely recommend for those who are interested in traditional French cuisine.
Lovely food and service.
Wonderful evening with delicious food! our server Nadege was gracious funny knowledgeable and made great recommendations. I’d never eaten sable fish but tried it based on her description—-delectable! My friends were excited to learn about this little gem. Felt like we were in Paris.
Authentic french cuisine. Definitely would return.
We have had dinner here many times but this was the first time for lunch. It was a perfect place for a business discussion. Service was perfect. Only disappointment was that due to it being in the middle of a business day we could not have a glass of wine. That was on us, not the restaurant.
Two of us enjoyed a fabulous dinner on Tuesday, which is the prix fixe night. For $38 each we had appetizer, entree, and dessert and it was an incredible value. I would have been happy to have paid full price! Starters: oxtail gnocchi -- soft, creamy gnocchi with tender beef in a delicious savory sauce; fish cheeks -- sounds weird, I know, but a knockout not to be missed. Entrees: mussels in a creamy red sauce that was slightly spicy that my east-coast friend thought were the best she'd ever had; sable fish with butternut squash and currants (I think) -- melt-in-your-mouth delectable and sizable enough that I had leftovers for the next day. Dessert: sorbet for my gluten-free friend and Grand Marnier soufflé's for me (dreamy delicious). All this for $38 each! Service was great but a little perfunctory. Wine selection was great too. The space is cozy but interesting and fun. All in all, a wonderful, authentic French meal.
This was hands down one of the best meals we've had in Chicago, a great food town. This was prix-fixe evening, a value that simply can't be beat. We shared escargot, an endive salad, and I had bouillabaisse (YUM), while my friend had steack-frites. Grand Marnier souffle and apple tart for dessert. And great wine. The service was excellent as was the ambiance. One of the best and most fun restaurants in Chicago. Thank you, to all the staff of La Sardine!
Service was disorganized and indifferent at times. Entrees were mediocre at best. Two of the entrees were over-salted which detracted significantly from their quality. I was tempted to ask other diners if their food was as bad as ours. Not a good value for the prices charged. Definitely would not recommend.
Beautiful fabulous meal! Flavor profiles were perfection! Every single aspect of the food was just so good! Make sure to get cocktails and dessert too! Thanks for making my New Years so special! Can not wait to be back!
Either we lucked out by ordering 4 of the most delicious items on the menu or ... everything at this place is delicious. Will definitely be coming back.
We go here every NYE and love the charm of this neighborhood French gem.
We dine here fairly frequently and it is probably on of our most favorite places. The food is consistently well prepared, a menu that has something for every kind of taste and the best souffles! If you like French comfort food, this is the place to dine at!
Service was wonderful and he was very attentive. Fish was cooked perfectly but a couple of items such as oysters a bit salty.
Kathryn our waitperson was outstanding! The bartender made a very poor Manhattan initially. We told Kathryn and she said “I’ll make it myself”. And she did… It was terrific and perfect.
Mussels excellent. French onion soup to die for. Apple tart yummy. Hadn’t been I two years and the family is running it well. Their father would be so proud.
Bartender and waiter were great!! First time there, so we experimented with the menu and got a little bit of everything. The only thing I disappointed in were the scallops. They were god, but You only got 3 scallops. I was still hungry. I thought they were overpriced. All in all, I’d go back. I saw other dishes that looked fabulous. Also, on Monday’s it’s 1/2 price wine.
This is a wonderful restaurant with a fantastic menu and wine list. Monday night half price bottle wine night is a great value. Would have given 5 stars across the board if I had been served the wine I selected. Will be back
La Sardine has been a favorite spot for many, many years! Each visit is always amazing for food, service, & ambiance. I highly recommend La Sardine for a date night, group outing, or even business lunch. Their classic french dishes never disappoint and they are one of the few places I know where one can get souffles for dessert!
Service was non existent and only 3 tables were occupied
Loved it! We went there to celebrate our daughters being home for the holidays. My oldest is studying in Paris. We arrived early for our reservation but the host Nick got us seated early without any hassles. He was so accomodating. Katherine, our server, was pleasant and helpful, made great recommendations and knew the menu and specials inside and out. The food was outstanding the atmosphere was tres Francaise and we enjoyed our time at La Sardine. It made for a very memorable time with our family.
An early Christmas dinner out with the family! Dan is always terrific!!
First time here and it did not disappoint! Started our night off with a delicious bottle of red wine paired with some hot steaming mussels which were finger licking good! I had the oxtail appetizer as an entree and my husband had the steak frites. We finished it off with a creme brulee on the house! Can't wait for our 2nd trip there! Great food, great service and a great time.
I had the duck and my wife had the Sable fish and both were outstanding. The sauces were so good that the plates we had were cleaned by our rolls to pick up every drop. Service was warm and prompt and the dining room was comfortable and elegant at the same time.
I would recommend La Sardine for the food, but would advise that the service was sub-par
Had a Christmas luncheon here and it was lovely. Food was very good, portions good and luncheon specials were good. Would definitely return.
Great restaurant and food but, customer service needs major improvement. From the bar tender, to hostess to waiter. We have been dining here for decades but our last experience this week will have us looking as different options now. We had a party of 5 with a 500+ plus bill. Service should be excellent!
If you are looking for a warm, cozy, romantic restaurant with good service and good food, La Sardine is your place.
Service was very slow. One entree was good. 3 others were adequate. Dessert was unexceptional
One of our favorites! There is nothing bad on the menu! Delicious!
My birthday dinner at La Sardine was very enjoyable. The French Manhattan and the Negroni were excellent. The steak tartare was especially outstanding, as was the duck and the octopus. Portions generous and perhaps a little rich, but hey! The salsify soup was gloppy, the only minus. Our server was great.
Back to an old favorite after a 7-10 month absence and had a fabulous meal and even better service. Boullibasse, Lobster salad and pistachio souffle were Devine!
Overall it was a very good experience. The waiter was friendly and helpful with wine choices by the glass. It was Tuesday, when La Sardine offers an excellent value for the Prix Fixe menu. They're very large portions! The food was generally good. My only reservation was that both my girlfriend and I found our main dishes (Cassoulet and Coq au Vin) to be overly salted.
The happy hour was exceptional and of very good value. We went on a Tuesday evening for the prix fixe dinner. Three of our dinners, 2 coq au vin and a steak frites were much too salty and we were not able to eat our main dishes. The waitress did ask if we would like something else but as we were not hungry after the happy hour, we replied it was not necessary. The worse part of the evening was the valet parking where was I charged $36 or $38 for the evening. I was not told that it was $17 for 4 hours and we were in the restaurant for 4 hours and 20min. I was told afterwards if I had paid cash, I would have only been charged the $17. I have been trying to reach the Valet services, Valet Descartes, leaving a message each time, but no one gets back to me. I will be talking to the restaurant about this also if I do not hear from Richie from the valet co. This could deter me from going back. I never received a receipt and I had requested one.
