Great and personal service. Wonderful food - especially the bouillabaisse and halibut collars, great guidance on wines.
The food, the bartender and wait staff were phenomenal! The only problem was our reservation was not honored. We were sat 40 minutes after our 8:00 reservation. Yes, they were plenty of apologies and a complimentary appetizer because we were getting pretty hangry, But 40 minutes is unacceptable.
It is a great classic bistro. Bustling somewhat noisy but not bad. Food was very good. French onion soup is a must. Dover sole was elegant and well prepared. Love the endive salad. Not a huge fan of coquilles st jacque as not classic prep but scallops were properly cooked. Would definitely return
Second time for me but brought three first-timer friends along! Food was fabulous & our waitress (French - “Desh”?) was Awesome!
We were seated a few feet away from the door, which led to feeling the chill every time the door opened. I made the reservations on Feb. 16, & yet we got the worst seating for a 6pm reservation. Oh well, the company, the food/drinks, and the waitress, led me to not complain that night.
Amazing food !
Have been coming here for some time but hadn't been in a while and its still really great - we will definitely be back again and again!
This restaurant NEVER disappoints. The food, decor, ambience and staff are all top notch. Will continue to go back again and again.
Excellent and authentic French Bistro. Loved the tarte flambé.
We had the BEST time eating and drinking and hanging at Le Sardine.
The Dover sole was buttery and perfectly cooked. The house white Burgundy was terrific and the creme brûlée was scrumptious. the service was terrific, friendly and efficient.
The place was hopping on Friday night, every table was full with very happy people.
I would like to thank General Manager, the very charming, Nick Maggio for making our night extra special. His company and special attention to us made the evening even more enjoyable than it already was. Thanks, Nick. xo
I will return.
The food is both pretty and delicious. This one of my favorite restaurants.
They have a great special on Tuesday! I highly suggest checking it out. It was my first time, but I’d heard wonderful things about the food and ambiance. It did not disappoint!! Our waiter was the best- I’m gluten free he he went through every item on the menu that could be made gluten free! I wish I’d gotten his name, he was awesome! Great at recommending dishes as well as wine! I can’t wait to dine here again!
The food is the best it’s ever been. We are consistently seeing terrific fish dishes, and the cassoulet is amazing (you’ll have enough for lunch the next day). I am enjoying the slight twist the bar has on the cocktails as well.
My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed our evening at La Sardine where we celebrated my birthday. Our server, Dan, was remarkable. He made an excellent wine suggestion and was perfectly attentive and informative. The escargot, steak frites, and chocolate soufflé were superb. The fish in the bouillabaisse was very good but the broth was a bit lacking in flavor for me. However, that will not detract from us returning. La Sardine is now at the top of our favorites list!
For awhile wasn’t as good as usual. Seems to be better
Group of six met for dinner on a weekday evening in February. We all thought that the French food was excellent (salads, entrees, desserts). Our server was helpful and attentive, without being intrusive. Great ambience and convenient location in Fulton Market. We will return.
Our waiter Dan was very knowledgeable in helping us choose a good bottle of wine
La Sardine is absolutely one of my very favorite restaurants in Chicago. The food is always delicious and the atmosphere makes me believe I am in France.
Valentine’s Day. Dan was awesome.
We have been to La Sardine several times, have always enjoyed it, in all ways. Which is why we chose to
spend Valentine's day there. Disappointing. They added tables so it was super crowded, and noisier than usual. The service was slow, scallops were good but overly expensive (3 for over $30). One of the signature delights of La Sardine are their soufflé's. This night the soufflé was too crusty, almost burnt,
and very dry. Neither of us could eat very much of it. Seemed like it had been done too early then
had to be 'rebaked' We will go back one day, but, it will definitely be a while.
(The salad Lyonaisse was great)
There is no need to travel to France when this gem is open - consistent quality, delicious bistro fare, and notable wine/beer/cocktails. Friendly and kind staff that know their menu well and make your dining experience feel like it is your local french village "spot."
We go here whenever we come to Chicago!
Lamb as main course during Restaurant Week was great! Always solid French bistro style food. Love it!
The duck was fatty and tough. I took two bites from different pieces and then the waiter took my plate. No offer was made to replace my main course. The escargot was good as were the Madelines for desert, but nothing in-between.
Again no sardines even though the on-line menu said they had them. Maybe they should change the name of the restaurant to San Sardines.
Service was ok as it seemed to be under staffed for lunch time rush.
Waiter was very good, but the server gave the food to the wrong person twice (there were only two us us),
and my request to honor a birthday was ignored.
Always excellent. This Includes the service and quality of the food. Warm and cozy as well. I have been going there for years and have never been disappointed.
Great ambiance, food, and a lovely wine list as a well as wines by the glass.
Very nice evening of food, fun & laughter.
The food was simply wonderful, the items I had were from the restaurant week menu, so unfortunately I don’t know if they’ll make a reappearance on the menu - but the mushroom tart was amazing and the biscuits on the cheese plate literally melt in the mouth...
I will definitely return.
We lucked out going there during Chicago restaurant week and took the prix fixe menu which was a steal at $38.00. Very typical French bistro feel both in decoration and menu. The server was from France and very friendly as well as quite knowledgeable about the wines. We will return.
I went to La Sardine with a friend during restaurant week and had a very good fixed prix dinner which was a fantastic deal at $36 for soup, entree and dessert. I especially enjoyed the lobster bisque. The service was excellent and the room was quiet enough for conversation. I will be back!
This was my first time at la Sardine, although my friends go often and are delighted by the place.
I was impressed and delighted at the level of care with front of house, from being seated and attended to with such grace and charm to our wonderful and knowledgeable waiter who made the experience even more enjoyable.
We did the restaurant week menu and the mushroom tarte starter was outstanding and my lobster bisque soup quite good.
My lamb was very flavorful, although it was a wee bit dry in spots, but my sauce was fantastic. My companion had the salmon and it was a tad underwhelming and oddly not seasoned at all, although he adored the sauce that accompanied it.
We both had baked Alaska and it was fine, but not quite what I expected. I thought the meringue was gorgeous but the ice cream and center compote didn't thrill me quite as much.
But given the level of service and ambience, I most certainly will return and try some other dishes to compare.
All in all, I think it's absolutely worth spending some quality culinary time there.
Luv luv luv luv
We always love going here. We have never been disappointed.
Excellent food and excellent service - one of our favorites. At times a bit loud and noisy - so go earlier before it gets very crowded. The French Manhattan is excellent.
I recently visited for the first time for my birthday lunch. The fish special was walleye and was absolutely delicious ! Loved the ambiance too. Service was great and I definitely want to visit again.
I have been to La Sardine several times over a number of years and I always enjoy the experience.
There is always something new and something I would never cook myself at home on the menu here.
I have never had a bad meal in well over a dozen visits.
It has become a staple for me when I travel to Chicago.
Food was very good. Cocktails were not. The pour use to be very generous. Now it's cut in half and price went up $3! Not a good combo
Very disappointed, overall just not a good experience.
