La Sandia Stapleton Ratings and Reviews
We used to love La Sandia. The decor, ambiance, wait staff, food. It was a great package.
Our last visit left us flat. The wait staff while efficient lacked personality and panache. The food was blah. The presentation looked like something out of a cheap Mexican restaurant in small town America. Not fresh. Not original. Boring. The taste matched the presentation. No excitement. No bursting of flavors.
What happened? Did Taco Bell buy La Sandia? That's how it felt. Sad. (Thank you Mr. President.)
The food was pretty good, but the service was bad. It took forever to get our drinks and then our food. It even took our waitress a long time to give us our check. We finally had to ask another waiter if he could get our check for us. I would not recommend going there.
Been going here for years and it is on a steady decline. Service has gone downhill- terrible. Noise level is ridiculous. Food is edible but nothing like the gorgeous plates we used to salivate over. So disappointed, should have known something was up when they kept dropping the price of the Groupon.
My husband and I ate dinner here while in Stapleton on business, and had a great dinner sitting outside on a nice September night. The food was all really good, and abundant. The chunky guacamole was good but I preferred eating it with the homemade chips (and salsa) rather than on the large cracker. My combo plate of stuffed chile pepper, enchilada and quesadilla with chicken Tika (with good rice and beans) was tasty and I brought half homeless my husband also liked his steak fajita platter.
The service was great. Food was real good. The salsa was delicious. The only drawback were
the black beans. They do not look appetizing on your plate. They taste just fine, but I should have ordered whole beans with my meal. The tacos were very good. Rice was also good.
The food was good, but the service was terribly slow. They didn't seat us for 10 minutes and we had a reservation. The margarita I ordered took 15 minutes to be delivered after having to ask for it twice. My date and I had empty water glasses on multiple occasions and our food took over 40 minutes to arrive after we had ordered. Our server never came over to apologize for the delays and she wasn't even the one to deliver our food or bring us our check. Never going back there.
Waited 20 minutes for a table despite having reservations, if I wasn't meeting friends I would have went elsewhere. Took another 10 minutes to get water, then another 10 to order drinks. Finally I asked a waiter if we could order food, but had finished 1st drinks before we were able to order food, so had to order more drinks. Food took forever to come out, drinks took even longer (by the time we received our 2nd round of drinks, we had eaten all the food). Had to hunt down the waitress to get the bill, then waited another 15 minutes for her so we could pay. Plan on being here a LONG time for ok food (very small portions), weak drinks, and horrible service.
Service was slow, really slow and music was too loud. Ordered Shrimp fajita , didn't like a seasoning at all. One of my friends ordered Salmon Adobado and it was so dry. Another friend ordered margarita and didn't enjoy it . They probably use the cheapest alcohol for their drinks.
I love la sandia, however, very disappointed that they have changed their happy hour - and not just a little - a lot! I would come here all the time for happy hour all night, bottomless guacamole for $5.00 a couple and taco tues all night every Tuesday..... Happy hour is now only until 6pm, no more bottomless quac and Taco Tues is only until 6pm. You guys had one of the best happy hours ever and your bar and patio seating rocks. I am so sad that I have to find a new happy hour place!
It seems the quality of this place has gone down. The food was so so and the service was just bad. We had to get up threee times to get silverware for us and the two couples next to us. The sandía margarita was just watered down juice. I think I'll pass on this place from now on. Too bad. I used to love this place.
Fajitas were awesome - great presentation, smaller than you might see at other chain places, but quality was higher & it was PLENTY of food. Beans & rice accompanying, though, were flavorless & disappointing. House chips & salsa are very good. Hostess is verrrrrrry slow & the process for seating seems to take a lot longer than it should (& for the record, I used to be a hostess & a server, I'm pretty forgiving). Also, servers try very very hard to upsell & don't read the customer great about that if they aren't interested in apps, desserts, just want their nice meal in a timely fashion & then not to be forgotten about when the bill needs to get delivered (we were forgotten).
Cute restaurant but the food was just so so. Nothing to write home about and a little expensive for what you received. Service was okay. We had the guy with the really curly ponytail. He wasn't great about checking-in on us and he neglected to refill my drink.
Four of us met for dinner, restaurant was either understaffed or wait staff simply wasn't attentive. Servers were few and far between. Mixed results on the food delivery, enchiladas were good, pork skillet was sub-par, quesadilla was good, tacos were OK. Certainly didn't entice one to return. Drinks were good, once they finally arrived.
Probably will not return given the other alternatives in the area.
Worst dining experience I've ever had in my life! Not only was the food gross and the service is very very slow but the waitress (Gabby) was horrible to us. The The food and drinks were very expensive and we're not good at all they tasted frozen. Took forever for us to get our orders in and get our food and the waitress with hardly seen and it's not like the place was busy or she had other tables to deal with she was just nowhere to be found. Finally when we were heading out apparently the waitress wasn't happy with our tip that we left her for her crappy service so she brought the money back to us and said "here I think you need this more than I do!" I was so incredibly baffled I could not believe how rude she was! I immediately spoke with the manager about this incident which was the only saving grace because she was very nice and apologetic and refunded us our money but I will still never be back and I would highly advise against anybody spending there money here not worth it at all.
We only went here, because another Groupon could not be used, since the restaurant closed and this was offered (same owners). We went for a late lunch. Apparently the kitchen staff was on break, because it took FOREVER for food to come. And for what? It was pretty much all re-warmed or re-heated (although, oddly still barely hot, like it had sat waiting for a while). The Carnitas were greasy, but "ok" (not near as good as they can be), the salsa seemed "watered down", the Mojitos refresing and minty, but $8! In general, the food was not cooked to order, but really "generic"., luke-warm, and absolutely no "sizzle".. there are so many better Mexican food experiences in Denver!
