La Sandia - Lone Tree Ratings and Reviews
Host stand needs help—we had a reservation under a last name that applied to all 6 guests. One guest came in—told no reservation under that name. He wandered the restaurant looking for family because he didn’t know what else to do. I got there and found this elderly guest; got him back to the host stand and gave our name; they prepared us a table. We sat down and waited for our other guests for 14 minutes. I finally called them—they had been seated at another table in the restaurant, even though they gave the same family name at host stand. Very frustrating.
This was our first time at La Sandia. It was a beautiful, quiet atmosphere. Our waitress Renee was amazing. She was very knowledgeable and many great suggestions. My husband and I both had margaritas that were delicious! The food was also very ethnic and delicious. We will definitely be back.
The happy hour mojito was alittle weak on rum. The red wine was a much better choice. Loved my fish street tacos. The chips and smoky salsa are great. We had the tossed salad with shrimp. It was very good. Service was great but it wasn't too busy. I would go again for happy hour.
My wife and I had an awesome server. That may be the only redeeming quality to this visit. We ordered the special quacamole sampler, steak fajitas and fish tacos. All the food down to the salsa was bland and lacked flavor. Adding salt only helped a little. Chips were saltless as well and no table had a salt shaker. We had to ask for one and our awesome server was happy to get it. I might give it another shot but I was disappointed for sure.
I was disappointed with the experience at La Sandia. I requested a table on the upper level, and was seated on the main level. When I asked if it was possible for an upstairs table like I had requested in my open table reservation notes, I was told no, they don't guarantee seating preferences. When we ordered, and it had been 20 mins since our Guac appetizer was ordered, my friend asked the server "where's the Guac?" And was told "in the kitchen." Pretty rude! When the Guac did arrive, we were low on chips. So the server took the basket of chips away to go refill it... leaving us sitting with the Guac at the table for 5 mins before he came back with the new chips. We had to ask for refills... we had to ask for everything. Overall, the service was lacking. No desire to hurry back.
I had been for lunch once and the food and service were good! We returned for my daughter's birthday and though the service was very good, It was overall disappointing. . It was a Saturday homecoming night so very loud with lots of teenagers. The tableside guac was fun and pretty good. The food came out slowly, maybe moreso bexausr of the crowds. My rice and beans (though their refried black beans are very yummy!) appeared that they had been on my plate under a heat lamp. My daughter's pork was too fatty for her to eat, but to the server's credit, he replaced it with a free order of combo fajitas which she said were excellent. If I had to go again, I'd order fajitas.
Ordered guacamole for appetizer. It was prepared in the kitchen and finished off at the table side - had no salt or lime. Had to ask for it and add it on my own. Ordered the chicken and steak fajitas for main dish. IT WAS TASTELESS!! If you're looking for authentic Mexican food, not the place for you. But if you're wanting Mexican-ish food which lacks the authentic flavor, then might be the place for you
Service was sub-par at best. Had to flag waiter down pretty much every time.
Will not be returning.
They seemed very short staffed, even though it was not terribly busy that we could see. Our server was helpful about the menu when we finally saw him. Took a very long time for service, for cocktails and for our food. We had to go ask for water refills and more chips, salt, and silverware. The hostess was seen lounging and chatting with the downstairs host, and did not tempt to talk to us despite our obvious attempts to get anyone's attention. That's why we got up and found things ourselves. The food was tasty when it finally arrived.
This is one of my favorite restaurants so I decided to go here for my birthday. I was completely disappointed. My disappointment is mostly around the service I received. The server took a long time to bring chips and salsa and decided to argue with me. She told me that she could not accommodate a request with my meal. The funny thing is I order the exact same thing, with the same request, every time I go to this restaurant. My meal was good but 2 others in my party did not like their meals...chewy steak. I spent over $100 and none of us were happy.
Great food as always however we were sad to see the streamlined menu which no longer has the Shrimp Jalisco Enchiladas (and the awesome green rice that came with it). Nor did they have the Taquitos. The watermelon margarita is very good, a favorite! I also recommend the slow pork tacos. Very good black beans; super yummy.
When arriving for our reservation, the hostess directed us to go upstairs, as we wanted to sit on the patio, and the hostess upstairs would seat us. We were greeted by several servers when we got upstairs, but the hostess was seating another party. There was a worker sitting at a nearby table. She decided to get up and seat us. As there were a lot of open tables we asked for a specific table. She said, in a not so pleasant way, that she would have to go clean off the table and set the menus down in a very angry way so she could clean the table off, as if we were making her go out of her way. In the meantime, the regular hostess came back and graciously seated us. Both my husband and I had Chicken Zarape. It was very good though it could have been warmer, and the rice was excellent. My son had the trio -- Tortilla Soup; Cheese Enchilada; and Chicken Tinga Taco. He did not like the soup, I didn't either; taco and enchilada was small and okay. Next time he would order something different. Our server was very nice and attentive. It was really nice to sit on the patio on such a beautiful evening.
Have been before and the meal and experience was nice and fun. However it seems that in the rush of time attention to details and experience for customers is missed. From starting with the seating experience and being seated with a temperamental server our fun experience started to tarnish. The food wasn't enjoyable either. I have had my dish twice before with such excitement going to have it again I left upset and the guacamole was sour. Sadly the front desk didn't seem to care. They only continued to ask if we were ready to be seated again after telling them we had already paid and eaten. Clearly the place is having issues and they are off their game. Hope it corrects because the restaurant itself is a prime property and would be ideal for competition.
We (party of 2) were seated for 45 minutes before we received our drinks. I have a cilantro allergy (which I obviously told them about), and there was cilantro in several of our dishes. Tables around us who arrived after us received their food 20 minutes before we did. When we spoke with the manager, he apologized and said he would buy us a round of drinks. The drinks took 15 more minutes to arrive to our table, and then the drinks were on our bill. The staff (including the manager) did not seem to care about our experience or satisfaction. There were also dirty wet rags on the floor beneath our table. When we went to pick.our car up from the valet, he said people are regularly having bad experiences there and he wasn't surprised that we did, too. The entire experience was disappointing,
and, needless to say, we will not be returning.
