La Riviera is an upscale French bistro located in the historic Royal York Auction Gallery building on Baum Boulevard. Serving a selection of traditionally inspired dishes from different regions, La Riviera brings these favorites to life with precision.
Our bar features cocktails with inspiration from our modern kitchen with a focus on presentation. Classics will be re-imagined with new ingredients and techniques. La Riviera's wine list includes a look into many French regions, both by the glass and by the bottle. The selections focus on individual growers and estates producing terroir driven wines.
Steak Tartar was amazing!
My wife and I went to La Riviera to take advantage of its participation in the Taste30Pgh program. We each chose from the 3 course menu they offered for the program. We chose different options for each of the 3 courses and were very happy with everything we had. I chose the Winter Scallops entree and it might have been the best scallops dish I've ever had. Both dessert options were very good.
The wine by the glass options for both red and white were interesting and reasonably priced.
The service was appropriately attentive without being obtrusive.
We look forward to returning in the future. We've already recommended the restaurant to several friends.
Always consistent, unique and hip atmosphere plus an excellent wine list. Regularly dine there with friends, clients and family.
Everything was awesome. Service was top notch and food was delicious. Excited to visit again!
I had a very good meal at La Riviera! The grilled trout is outstanding. It comes on a bed of lentils, smoked pear and rapini. I was wary because I'm not a huge lentils fan, and I don't often don't like smoked foods, but I love rapini and trout so I went for it. It was so delicious, I was sorry when it was gone. My friend had the beet salad which was a generous portion with arugula and two large mounds of soft goat cheese. Yum! We shared the foie gras appetizer which was to die for. The cocktail menu is amazing as well. I decided just looking at all of the choices that I have to go back just for the drinks. The space is large, and I was afraid I wouldn't like the atmosphere, judging from the pictures online, but filled with people and the twinkling lights over the bar and open kitchen, it was enchanting. I can't wait to go back and sit at the bar for something different. I highly recommend La Riviera!
Wonderful meal and cocktails along with an extensive wine list. A new favorite for us!
We all enjoyed our meals. Lovely appetizers, steak, pork chop all delicious. Our server was extremely professional while being friendly. Definitely Go!
Nice menu that frequently changes. Always fresh and well prepared. Enjoyable atmosphere. Good drink list. Excellent place for casual dining. Desert menu is always good.
Food was oddly paired and we were all disappointed by the lack of flavor and poor presentation.
The food was just ok. Nothing exceptional. The portions were a good size. I was disappointed that the seats were plastic or metal and were too low for the table ?! If I’m paying $35 for an entree I would like to be in a comfortable seat! The bar seats looked like they were padded and a lot more comfortable. Our server was good. She was attentive without being over bearing.
More than 30 minutes to get our initial drink order filled, 2 and 1/2 hours for a 2 course meal, with bread arriving after the entree. One person's French onion soup had a chunk of super hot pepper in it, making it impossible for her to enjoy any of the rest of her meal.
Awesome food. Better than when we have dined here before. Foie Gras is the best you will find. The hot pot escargot was also delicious. Can’t go wrong with the coq A vin. Nice selection of different French wines as well. Definitely worth a return visit!!
This is an excellent bistro with much of the same food as the more elegant Twisted Frenchman upstairs--perfect for a more casual ala carte meal. The trout was absolutely delicious--tender and flavorful with a caramelized mousse-like dab on top; the steak was tender and cooked to perfection (with frits); the beef bourguignon was also tender and flavorful; and the baked escargot appetizer in a bread-like pastry was particularly yummy and interesting (served in a skillet). Don't skip the chocolate souffle with pistachio sauces. The food is fantastic and we will return, with friends.
Food was cold. Descriptions of food and drink did not match what was received. Large portions. Service was good. Hardly anyone there.
Fantastic place! Beautiful space with high ceilings, wine deck, and big chandelier from Pittsburgh Glass Company over the bar. Excellent food and service. Make sure you try the “cheesecake.” Might be the best dessert in Pittsburgh!
La Rivera was just what we needed for a Friday nite small gathering at 5 pm before we went to see Hamilton. We had plenty of time to drive to cultural trust area.
Great drinks, attentive service, and the booths are very comfortable. We began with a delicious pear appetizer, and I had a healthy meal of trout perfectly cooked over lentils and vegetable. I splurged with the frites and shared them.
Pastry chef creates wonderful specialty desserts, even the most delicious birthday cake for my daughter.
Thank you LaRiveria and creators for a evening I especially looked forward to and am returning soon.
We had a wonderful friend get together to catch up after the holidays. The atmosphere, food, service was
outstanding. Coming back to try the Twisted Frenchman next week. What a gem for Pittsburgh!!!
Enjoyed the special New Year Eve menu.
I went with a group of friends, but this is also a perfect date night spot. Cocktails and wine choices were great, as was the food - the foie gras was one of the best bites of food we ever had. The happy hour menu looked like it had great deals, so I'll definitely be back for that!
Joe was a fabulous waiter: checked enough to make sure we were taken care of but not too much as to be intrusive!
Some really great food and more than reasonable prices. The service was top notch. The owner stopped by the table to check on us. The chef even stopped by to check on us. Beautiful decor inside. Just from beginning to end an overall great dining experience. We drive through downtown and pass a bunch of great restaurants to go to La Riviera. And we’ll do it again.
Delicious food & great cocktail selection
We wanted La Riviera to be great, as we live in the neighborhood, but sadly, it was just average. My husband had the steak/frites, and I had a Caesar salad and paella. The paella was gummy and the seafood in it was uninteresting. There are so many good restaurants in the Eastside area that are far better.
Steak Frites was delicious, love all the food! Decor and atmosphere was fantastic! Staff is always friendly and helpful, even great dealing with an allergy!
Very nice wine list, entrees are fantastic and the highlight. Appetizers are just fine but nothing outstanding. Would go again to try more entrees and maybe happy hour.
Although the space is attractive, the food is terrible. Everything tasted either bland or over sauced—or just bad. We won’t go back.
Great service!! Food was good too.
Service was good and friendly. Food is OK and pricey. Nice bar with great alcohol selection. Would stop for a drink if in the area. Won’t make a special trip
Exceptionally beautiful spot! Service was excellent. Food could/should have been hotter...was served luke warm. Terrific ambiance. Great place.
Good spot! Fun and very interesting food. The service was great; friendly and helpful, attentive.
Chef Garbarino never disappoints. Everything on the menu is always DELICIOUS.
I ordered the bone marrow appetizer and steak frites.
After taking our order and bringing it to the kitchen, our server returned to our table and informed us they do not have the bone marrow appetizer although it’s on the menu because they recently had the menu printed and didn’t want to change it once the bone marrow comes in :/
My steak was small but good. Unfortunately it was placed on top of a pile of burnt brussel sprouts
The fries were overly salted.
Dessert - NY cheesecake was not NY style. It was a tiny bit of deconstructed cheesecake.
Although it was not as described in the menu, it was tasty.
Everything was excellent from the wine to the dessert. The venison tartare was an amazing bite and my wife and I couldn't stop fighting over who would eat the trout almondine or the lamb tagliatelle. We also thoroughly enjoyed the Amaro selection for after dinner drinks and the wine was outstanding. The meal was pricey - especially the wine list - but it was worth it for an evening of good drink and food.
Limited entree menu. More choices listed for appetizers. Entree was very good but not equal to the hype given to that Resturant’s or the pricing.
The bar tender also served us .. so he was interrupted in order to fix drinks.. maybe it was the time we were there around 6:30 pm
The restaurant has a European feel. The staff was very a comodating to food requests. The gnocchi was outstanding. Definitely worth going.
Tried multiple items and the food was very good. The wine list is extensive. This is not an incredibly special dining experience but a very solid one
Tried restaurant in walking distance from my hotel. Staff very friendly. Was not too busy early on. Arrived around 515pm for Happy Hour. Nice selection of cocktails and wines for $8 from 5-7pm. Also $6, $8, and $10 appetizer selection too! Enjoyed my food and staff was very personable and provided great service. Bartender allowed me to try wines before ordering a glass!
Great restaurant what a nice find. The service was excellent and the fish was perfect. Very accommodating to dietary needs
Over all amazing!! Only criticism was the noise level. Beef tartar was the best I've had in Pittsburgh
We thoroughly enjoyed our meal during Restaurant week. Beef tartare was excellent. Poulet rouge was really delicious with crispy skin and a wonderful sauce. The steak frites was also delicious. We had plenty to take home as well. Highly recommend.
