Country French inspired restaurant. At La Provence, “cooking with heart” means everything. The menu blithely ignores the cutting edge of urban contemporary French food, and instead reflects the time-honored, time-consuming rustic techniques that in turn reflect the rugged earthiness of the ingredients.

This was my second visit and as before I found the place to be very polite and civilized. The waitstaff are very considerate and allow you to try things if you're in two minds and they provided very nice advice about wines to have with the different food that we were trying. I had duck and my friend ate tuna both of which were very good. it is one of the best restaurants I know in Louisiana. Not a good place to go to save money but a first-class establishment.

We had dinner there this past weekend and couldn't have been more pleased with the service and menu. The food was absolutely delicious and all vegetables were local and seasonal (most came from their own gardens) making for an even better dining experience. We started with their house made pate served with crunchy bread. I've never been a huge fan of pate but theirs was truly delicious; smooth and full of flavor but with a light consistency. I followed that with the warm asparagus soup, roasted duck breast with seasonal vegetables and finished with Meyer lemon infused Crème Brule. My meal was perfect from start to finish and the service was top notch. The ambiance was romantic with french country decor that served as a great backdrop for the delicious food. This is a great place for a special occasion or date night.

One of our children told us La Provence had returned to grand form. That was an understatement. The new owners have done a remarkable job. We had brunch there a few weeks ago. Brunch was remarkable. We went again for our anniversary tonight. Our meal tonight was one of the best meals I’ve ever had. La Provence is definitely the best restaurant on the North Shore. The menu is uniquely creative and executed to perfection. The pride the new owners take in their restaurant shines through the entire experience.
The romantic atmosphere was perfect for our anniversary. We had an incredible night.

This is a very good restaurant. I’ve been twice. Both times the food was unique, delicious, and inventive. It is a little pricey, but it’s great for a special occasion.

Everything about La Provence was special. It felt as if we were special guests into the chef and owners private retreat. The atmosphere is so inviting. The food is incredible. The garden is immediately behind the restaurant. It is a true farm to table high end dining experience. My husband and I had an amazing romantic dinner to celebrate his birthday. Highly recommend.

My husband and I make a point to celebrate our anniversary here every year for the last 7 years or so. The food is always perfect; service is stellar; and the ambiance is wonderful. We took my well-travelled parents and my son on this last visit; they commented as they walked up to the entrance that they felt like they were already in Europe. And they absolutely loved the entire dining experience.

While we have dined here several times over the past few years, we had not been in since last Spring. Each time we visited, we had been very satisfied. We were concerned by recent reviews but found the service and the food to be excellent. We would certainly recommend La Provence for upscale dining.

Had new years dinner and was very disappointed. Duck was cold and dinner was ridiculously expensive. For the quality of food and the price you charge, it is not worth the experience. You need to lower your prices!!!

New Year's eve dinner...Beautiful atmosphere, nearly empty dining area.
Complimentary pate was divine as always. Oysters Rockefeller lacked the main ingredient - pureed spinach, and instead had a topping of overly salty bread crumbs. Main dish - stuffed lobster, was anything but outstanding. Lobster tail was very small, 2 bites at best, and the crawfish stuffing had crawfish the size of dehydrated shrimp cat treats. Wait staff although polite, not trained for fine dining.
Beautiful atmosphere, unfortunately, the worst meal I have ever had at LaProvence. Having dined with all prior owners/chefs, expectations were a high!

The restaurant is pretty, and the fireplace is very nice. Free pate starter was delicious. Charbroiled octopus and arugala salads were winners, too. Unfortunately, that's where the positive review ends. On a cold Thursday night, the dining room was less than 1/3 full yet it took the waitress almost 10 minutes to greet us and take our drink order - despite walking by our table several times. She also didn't seem to know the proper way to monitor and clear the table as dirty dishes were piling up. The pork chop could have been good but was overcooked and extremely dry. My date's tagliatelli had an overpowering amount of some seasoning (fennel, maybe?) that made it barely edible - she left most of it behind. We had planned for dessert but decided it would be a better idea to visit Baskin Robbins. Overall, not competitive with other restaurants in this price range.

One last note - I was surprised how noisy the restaurant was considering how few people were present. They should really consider some noise-attenuating furniture or decorations.

Under recent new ownership, La Provence is on its way to restoring the excellent fine dining reputation that it held for many years under its founder, Chef Chris. Under the Besh Group ( owner prior to current owner), service really suffered. We recently had a group of 13, on Christmas Day afternoon. Ambience, service, hospitality, and menu offerings were great and reasonably priced. Of the 13 entrees, only one was sub-par. Would highly recommend as I think they will continue to get better.

Christmas dinner was wonderful. Going out to eat on a major holiday is always risky. No problems with food or service. This is a quaint and cozy place with consistent food and service.

Outrageously expensive for ordinary food. The food was ordinary. There was the Charcuterie Board that had tastes of various meats and pickles greens that was interesting, but the waitress named the over 10 items so fast you did not know what you were eating. That's the second time in 30 years that we ate there. Maybe the next time it changes hands.

Have been there many times. Really enjoy the rotating menu. There is always something new and exciting to find for dinner. The servers are always professional, courteous and attentive. While the food is a bit pricy, it is in line with other fine dining restaurants. The wine menu is extensive and affordable.

We have been to La Provence several times over the past few years, and have usually enjoyed our visits. We had notified the restaurant in advance that this dinner was for our anniversary. We were running about 15-minutes late for our reservation, but did call to let them know. We were seated next to a larger table that was quiet noisy, so much so that we had a very hard time carrying on a conversation. Also, it appears that there may have only been 2 waitresses working that night as service to our table seemed to be pretty slow. The waitresses were very nice, but I think that the restaurant should have had at least one more working that night. We really enjoyed the appetizers, but were not impressed by the entrees. The lamb shank did not have a lot of flavor and the short ribs were very tough. The "steak" knife provided by the restaurant was almost inadequate to the task of cutting the meat. During previous visits we were impressed with the food. This time, we were not.

Just another disappointing attempt to recapture the spirit of a once great restaurant. Menu was limited. Organic pork chop was too tough to chew . Duck confit was fair at best. Salads and desert was the best part of the menu. Service was friendly but not knowledgable. Not worth the drive IMO.

Food descriptions and options are still fit for foodies, but the execution is subpar. Everything was either undercooked, over cooked, or haphazardly plated. Sad to see such a drop off at restaurant that carries real sentimental value.

Eating at La Prov (as we affectionately call it) is like being served in our own living room except the food is much better and there is the brilliant addition of simple syrup to our iced tea. The atmosphere is cozy, the service is both formal and down-to-earth, and the menu has the perfect balance of changing frequently while still always offering our favorite dishes.

1- Upon arriving I asked for a nice table, we were given the worst one, closest to the kitchen service entrance.
2- The soup must have had pureed oysters, because I didn't see any.
3- The beef was not hot, only warm.

Quaint, but upscale Country French restaurant set back among the trees near the lake in Mandeville. It is much larger than it looks from the outside and defintely looks like restaruant you would see in the countryside of France. The service is superior and the food is farm to table fresh and excellent. Many of the dishes are simple but over the top with flavor. The pasta is homemade as is the pate' and most of the vegetables and spices seems to be farm to table. The oysters are simply prepared but the flavor is far from simple! The cocktail list is well done and the wine list is extensive for the menu. The butter lettuce salad was over the top with unexpected flavor. We found the atmosphere to be perfect for a relaxed slow date night dinner. It is romantic and cozy as well. The bar is large, yet cozy and welcoming. All in all it is a hidden gem and well worth the drive across the lake for a different kind of experience and a great meal.

Since Chef Eric and Jennifer Hunter have taken ownership of La Provence, they've taken it to a level the Northshore hasn't seen in over a decade. Farm to table ingredients mixed with the creative manipulation of the food into a feast, along with ambience and friendliness of the staff make for an amazing experience. You can also stroll the farm and see the animals, plants, vegetables, and honeybees and see where your food is sourced from. Do yourself a favor and go here...often.

Four of us ate at La Provence on Saturday 9/29/17 with reservations for 7:30 pm. Everything was lovely from the ambiance to the service to the cuisine. The complimentary pate is always perfect and very addicting! We started with the beet salad which was innovative and delicious. Our entree was the lamb shank. It was tender and perfectly prepared. Along with a round of cocktails to start and then a bottle of french malbec wine we also ended the meal with the french press coffee. Although John Bech no longer owns this restaurant the quality of the food and the service has remained. I highly recommend this restaurant.
