La Placita brings the island’s essence straight to Miami’s emerging MIMO District. The brainchild of Latin American TV and soap opera star, Julian Gil, and five-time James Beard nominated chef and restaurateur, Jose Mendin, La Placita is a celebration of cultura.
The restaurant is open for dine-in and patio dining, and also offers pickup and delivery through UberEats and Postmates.
The restaurant is inspired by Mercado Santurce, the original “La Placita” in San Juan, Puerto Rico. Chef Mendin pays homage to el Mercado, offering different curated marketplace menus (restaurant, juice stand, taco shop and produce market) all that capture the flavorful traditions of Puerto Rico and the eclectic vibrance of Miami’s.

Awesome place. Brings the island to my backyard. Food and drinks on point. Service was great. Fun people to share the experience with. Very accommodating
Great food. Love it
Had a great time with great food at the placita.
La Placita is an amazing restaurant. The food is AMAZING, the staff is friendly and efficient, and there is lots of fun energy- people laughing, swaying to the music, and enjoying each other’s company.
Juan Carlos was terrific, explained food & drinks in a charming delightful way..
Love the reminders of Puerto Rico, going in Oct & La Placita in Santurce is always on the list..
The Asopao de camarones was delicious, we were three & our table was full of yummy, eye appealing food.
Awesome dinner! Celebrated my birthday and had the most amazing time. Our server was the sweetest young lady, aiding us in explaining the menu and what her favorite dishes were. My friend is a vegan and he was given the best service for his dinner. We danced to the energetic music, and ate the best mofongo in Miami. Definitely will be back, extremely authentic Puerto Rican food. Love this place, must go again
Small menu several items on the menu not avail had to change my order twice. Overall an ok place, not what I expected. Very small tables to eat comfortable
The restaurant is nice although a little noisy. The music is too loud. It took a long time for the waiter to serve us but once she came, she took good care of us. The food is very good.
Don’t know how to make a mofongo
Lugar muy acogedor y excelente servicio de el mesero Luis.
Food was ok. Small portions. Prices higher than expected. Very good customer service
We celebrated my birthday there! We love the ambience and drinks were yummy! Second time going there. We will be back.
Me encanto! Great food, decor, and ambiance.
La comida magnífica, el ambiente y música muy bueno aunque la música un poco fuerte para un lugar cerrado y pequeño , el servicio de la comida bueno de el bar muy lento
Nice indoor and outdoor seating, fried queso appetizer was amazing combo with guava sauce, mofongo was bland and ropa vieja sauce was too thick (looked like pasta sauce). Other plate ordered was steak with rice and beans which was good. Service was excellent.
I had a reservation but by arrival time I was notified that inside tables were not available, My reservation was useless, had to wait 30 minutes to be seated. Finally inside, I noticed that the space is very small and only few tables are part of the set up. To that, add live music, so loud that is impossible to interact with friends or family. Food was not seasoned enough, very blend seasoning that doesn’t meet the Puerto Rican food flavor. After months looking forward to go to La Placita, it took me only few minutes to conclude that it is just another small restaurant with a big name, nothing special about it. Summing all up, the Puerto Rico flag on the building is the best part of this experience.
Super rica la comida y la musica super good!!! 💖
Good food.Nice atmosphere. They made me feel so special for my birthday the entire restaurant was singing.
The girl at the entrance knew it was me soon as I walked up! She’s always and I mean always smiling! Customer service awesome, food was awesome too! Will be back.
Food was really salty 😞
Extremely slow service, thought they forgot our meal, it was just taking so long
Eve thing went wrong
The parking lot was full and there is no other option for parking
They did not respect the reservation that was done a month ago
We sat on a make shift table outside.
It took a long time for the waiter to bring the menus
After all of that we left
We took my mom for her birthday 🎂!! and she absolutely loved it !! The food very energetic place, we will be back for sure .
Table was dirty. Service was really slow. Food was ok
It was a nice place dios was great but a bit pricy.
2 hours a half wait for dinner. Arrived with a reservation at 7:30 left at 10:30 pm. Tripleta was horrible. Waiter was very nice but was attending to many tables.
Great food and ambiance. Service was slow but waiter was very nice. Music is loud, but I enjoyed it.
Excellent service and great food full of flavor! Highly recommend the gandules hummus 😋
Excelente comida, con un excelente servicio. El lugar muy acogedor 😍😍
Love this place, the food the music and the people just makes it feel like I’m in PR for at least an hour
We made a reservation for an hour before closing and the waitress refused to sit us. We were a party of 7... They lost first time costumer, Puerto ricans wanting to support their own. Terrible service, she did not even apologize, she just said now. Never going back.
Good service really good food
First family outing since pandemic and we had an amazing time away from home.
Food and service was excellent!
On vacation and brought my friends to have PR food, they loved it. The music was great, the drinks were delicious, the food was amazing, and the ambiance was perfect. Great dinner place especially for a Friday night!
I was so disappointed with the whole service, it took like more than 1 hour for get the food , the waitress was talking with a guy in front door like nothing! Drink were ok . I was so embarrassed with my boyfriend because was my idea i made reservations from Boston and it was the most awful experience.
The place is beautiful, the food is amazingly good. But the service was not good at all. Our server Maziel was literally lost. She would forget what we ordered, she was not organized and she would take a long time to come to our table. The food is really expensive to receive such a poor service. Also, there’s a complimentary tip already added to your check. If the tip is already included the service should be 20 times more pleasant! thank you!
To start off the service was horrible. The server took around 28 minutes to come to the table to ask us what we wanted to drink. After that the appetizers took about 45 minutes to come to the table. A few minutes shortly after that the food came out. The food they have not have any flavor whatsoever. Did I mention the server was horrible. She pass by our table 2 tines after the dinner plates were picked up and she didn’t even ask if we need anything else even though she passed two times by our table and it saw that it was empty. The music inside the restaurant was way too loud that you cannot hear the person that you were having dinner with. You literally had a scream to talk to them. The sad part of all is that they already charge you a 15% service fee/gratuity on your check which is not worth it to pay at all because of the service you get.
