La Placita brings the island’s essence straight to Miami’s emerging MIMO District. The brainchild of Latin American TV and soap opera star, Julian Gil, and five-time James Beard nominated chef and restaurateur, Jose Mendin, La Placita is a celebration of cultura.
The restaurant is open for dine-in and patio dining, and also offers pickup and delivery through UberEats and Postmates.
The restaurant is inspired by Mercado Santurce, the original “La Placita” in San Juan, Puerto Rico. Chef Mendin pays homage to el Mercado, offering different curated marketplace menus (restaurant, juice stand, taco shop and produce market) all that capture the flavorful traditions of Puerto Rico and the eclectic vibrance of Miami’s.

Went to dinner with family and friends. Party of 5, right before a play at the Arscht Center. Food was delicious and service too. We had the sampler appetizer; it had something for everyone. The mofongo with pork was soft and delicious. I had the octopus with tostones since I was feeling a little full from the appetizers and let me tell you it did not disappoint. Our waitress was very nice and careful of our reservations for the show. We eat with plenty of time and felt relax with her service. Will definitely go back.
The food is very close to homemade, I’m glad I made the choice of going there for dinner. There are things that you can get that aren’t on the menu, so please ask if you want anything specific.
On Wednesday the 12th of January 2022 went to take a Chef from New Jersey that has heard about this restaurant and wanted to know what was all the fuss and news. First want to say the place is beautifully located in a good place the looks is amazing but we were all very disappointed in all they’re pre-made food. I ordered a trifongo with Shrimp ajillo , my cousin ordered trifongo with Masitas and another order pasteles was reheated and las alcapurrias Julian so small portion. The mofongo a cold completely inside center topped with hot meat or shrimp, bacalaitos were a joke coined sizes, then I asked to speak to the manager and asked her that I wanted fresh mofongo and she’s the one who spilled the beans and said this is not a traditional Puertorican restaurant. So my question to you is why all the decor as a Prican Restaurant so many flags and the amazing large Mural of the flag. I will not return or recommend this place which super expensive with poor quality food. May you correct all the mistakes you guys are making looking at all your reviews I see that I’m not the only one that was disappointed.
Amazing little place with a wonderful patio area. The staff was extremely friendly and the food was delicious. Everything was prepared just right and we were well taken care of. I would definitely go back again!
Feast of the Three Kings…(Día de los Reyes). Just another excuse to enjoy a great meal at LaPlacita. The food was plentiful; enough to take some home to enjoy tomorrow.
The food was really good but the portions were small
the food was really good (queso frito, chicharron de pollo, etc). mofongo wasnt amazing.
Great service and great food with decent prices I really enjoyed and will be back.
Service and management was great and attentive.
Great spot . Lots of fun . Good music . Good food . I will be returning .
The food was terrible. You expect puertoricans people in thr kitchen making your food, but colombian people making puertorican food? Nah! Horrible experienceq
Comimos Mofongo, carne frita y arroz con gandules. Las cervezas Medallas súper frías.
Great evening 🙌🏼🙌🏼🙌🏼
Excellent, arrived at 10:15 pm because my son arrived from Colorado, he’s a Military and I have to said that everything was great 🎊thanks

Had a great time with great food at the placita.
La Placita is an amazing restaurant. The food is AMAZING, the staff is friendly and efficient, and there is lots of fun energy- people laughing, swaying to the music, and enjoying each other’s company.
Juan Carlos was terrific, explained food & drinks in a charming delightful way..
Love the reminders of Puerto Rico, going in Oct & La Placita in Santurce is always on the list..
The Asopao de camarones was delicious, we were three & our table was full of yummy, eye appealing food.
Awesome dinner! Celebrated my birthday and had the most amazing time. Our server was the sweetest young lady, aiding us in explaining the menu and what her favorite dishes were. My friend is a vegan and he was given the best service for his dinner. We danced to the energetic music, and ate the best mofongo in Miami. Definitely will be back, extremely authentic Puerto Rican food. Love this place, must go again
Small menu several items on the menu not avail had to change my order twice. Overall an ok place, not what I expected. Very small tables to eat comfortable
The restaurant is nice although a little noisy. The music is too loud. It took a long time for the waiter to serve us but once she came, she took good care of us. The food is very good.
Don’t know how to make a mofongo
Lugar muy acogedor y excelente servicio de el mesero Luis.
Food was ok. Small portions. Prices higher than expected. Very good customer service
We celebrated my birthday there! We love the ambience and drinks were yummy! Second time going there. We will be back.
Me encanto! Great food, decor, and ambiance.
La comida magnífica, el ambiente y música muy bueno aunque la música un poco fuerte para un lugar cerrado y pequeño , el servicio de la comida bueno de el bar muy lento
Nice indoor and outdoor seating, fried queso appetizer was amazing combo with guava sauce, mofongo was bland and ropa vieja sauce was too thick (looked like pasta sauce). Other plate ordered was steak with rice and beans which was good. Service was excellent.
