La Placita brings the island’s essence straight to Miami’s emerging MIMO District. The brainchild of Latin American TV and soap opera star, Julian Gil, and five-time James Beard nominated chef and restaurateur, Jose Mendin, La Placita is a celebration of cultura.
The restaurant is open for dine-in and patio dining, and also offers pickup and delivery through UberEats and Postmates.
The restaurant is inspired by Mercado Santurce, the original “La Placita” in San Juan, Puerto Rico. Chef Mendin pays homage to el Mercado, offering different curated marketplace menus (restaurant, juice stand, taco shop and produce market) all that capture the flavorful traditions of Puerto Rico and the eclectic vibrance of Miami’s.

We made a reservation for an hour before closing and the waitress refused to sit us. We were a party of 7... They lost first time costumer, Puerto ricans wanting to support their own. Terrible service, she did not even apologize, she just said now. Never going back.
Good service really good food
First family outing since pandemic and we had an amazing time away from home.
Food and service was excellent!
On vacation and brought my friends to have PR food, they loved it. The music was great, the drinks were delicious, the food was amazing, and the ambiance was perfect. Great dinner place especially for a Friday night!
I was so disappointed with the whole service, it took like more than 1 hour for get the food , the waitress was talking with a guy in front door like nothing! Drink were ok . I was so embarrassed with my boyfriend because was my idea i made reservations from Boston and it was the most awful experience.
The place is beautiful, the food is amazingly good. But the service was not good at all. Our server Maziel was literally lost. She would forget what we ordered, she was not organized and she would take a long time to come to our table. The food is really expensive to receive such a poor service. Also, there’s a complimentary tip already added to your check. If the tip is already included the service should be 20 times more pleasant! thank you!
To start off the service was horrible. The server took around 28 minutes to come to the table to ask us what we wanted to drink. After that the appetizers took about 45 minutes to come to the table. A few minutes shortly after that the food came out. The food they have not have any flavor whatsoever. Did I mention the server was horrible. She pass by our table 2 tines after the dinner plates were picked up and she didn’t even ask if we need anything else even though she passed two times by our table and it saw that it was empty. The music inside the restaurant was way too loud that you cannot hear the person that you were having dinner with. You literally had a scream to talk to them. The sad part of all is that they already charge you a 15% service fee/gratuity on your check which is not worth it to pay at all because of the service you get.
Nice staff, good food (the Mojito's can use a little work but they weren't bad either) .... and comfy seating on the outside terrace
For a first time visit it was so worth it, I would definitely go again when I’m around that area.
No parking! Tables were sticky and floor were dirty!
The food and prices was not that great.
My wife and I went to celebrate our wedding anniversary. The service was excellent from the first interaction to the last moment of our dinner. You feel that you are in Puerto Rico, the decoration of the restaurant has many elements of the island, even the ceiling simulates the zinc roofs. The food has a genuine taste of Puerto Rican food. The prices are moderate, but considering that you are in Miami in the MIMO area, the prices are excellent. Our waitress was Naiomy (My wife and I went to celebrate our wedding anniversary. Food was bland and the trifongo was dry. The ambience looked nice but O honestly expected more. I ordered the mofongo experience and the food was very flavorless especially the shrimp, honestly even cocktail shrimp has more flavor than them. Will not go again. You pay $20 for each person ordering the mofongo experience and each share the same meats, you are basically paying for the mofongo at that point. I did not like it. Best to go to an authentic PR restaurant.
I enjoyed the food, it was my first time at the restaurant and we had a great time! Mariana was a great host!
Great food! Slow service.
One of the few Miami restaurants featuring Puerto Rican food. Sat outside which was very comfortable and really nice. Parking easy with the parking lot right there. Service was very good as well as the food although both my wife and I were looking forward to having the typical PR dish asopao which even though it was listed on the online menu, was not on the menu the day we went. Overall a very good experience and would return.
Food was salty and cold, no live music as I was told when I called. Restaurant in general looks dirty. All people walking free without mask. Menu is poor, no desserts are offered in the menu except flan. Not coming back definitely.
Ruined our Girls' Night Out. Would have given a ZERO star if that was an option. We had been waiting for months to get the girls together for drinks and dinner. We were so excited to come here. What a let down! Upon arriving on time for the reservations we had made and reconfirmed, we were told in a rather curt and rude manner to go stand outside in the line as they could not honor the reservation. There was utter disorganization. The guy behind the bar was pointed out as the manager after another employee had misrepresented himself as the manager. When we approached the "real manager" to ask if we could be seated at one of the open tables, he said "you can sit there if you want but you won't get served or even get a drink for another 90 minutes". Whaaaat? It was literally a "what do you want me to do and just leave if you don't like it" attitude with complete lack of regard for customers who had a reconfirmed reservation. No apology, no explanation, no good excuse other than being short staffed and evidently incredibly disorganized. Never again. We went elsewhere for a wonderful Italian meal and will never come back here again. A restaurant is destined to fail when employees have this attitude and disregard for their customers. The owners better get a handle on this before it's too late. "Adios".
Love the food! Ate here 2 nights in a row. We live nearby and come often.
the food is not what expected, and its so expensesive for what we eat
Very small food portions. Waitress did not go once to my table to see if we needed anything. For the amount of food they give you just go somewhere else.
Awesome place only turn off was the amount of dogs customers had. I counted 5 dogs which in my opinion is way to many for a restaurant and none of them were service dogs not even fake service dogs. Just straight up pets. The food was awesome though and service was good.
Above my expectations! The calamari are a must ! The service was wonderful. I absolutely recommend this place !
I love the food excellent service and customer service
The services is terrible ! Tip is already included. Go figure !
Our waiter was missing the entire time. We saw him sitting down eating his meal in the dining room while we were dying to pay and get out of there ! We asked another sever for our bill and nothing.. another 15 mins waiting.. Such a shame because the food is great.
Amazing restaurant! I went once before the reopened and I love this little place super comfortable and very chill spot will be back again!
Food was fabulous
Very good overall
My husband and I were in Miami for the weekend and decided to go here for dinner, Saturday evening. First time for us both and the service and food were outstanding. Raul took care of us and he recommended various dishes and everything was tasty and just as we expected! We will definitely return when we are back in Miami. Highly recommended! 🙂
Food was delicious. Our server was outstanding (Raul I think) guided us trough the menu he made off our afternoon. Is my second time at La Placita and for sure not the last time. Congrats to the chef and the staff for such excellent service.
We brought out of town guest! From the reservation process on Open Table to the warm welcome we received and the exceptional wait staff - everything was superb! But thats not the best part of our experience... the food was aaahhhhmmmmaaazzzing!!! The best Puerto Rican food in Florida hands down. Def going back with family.
Delicious food, great ambiance - parking is a bit limited, and it gets pretty busy so the service might be slow at times. But has a great energetic vibe.
Food and service were good overall, but the parking was terrible. No parking lots and you have to use pay by app parking. Prices were fair.
