Enjoyed the food and the ambience. The price of one glass of of wine is expensive. One glass of Pinot noir was $13. The same wine cost $19 for the entire bottle in the store.
One of the excellent places to get authentic Italian food in Chicago. Pasta cooked exactly al dente, sauces done with just the right amount of spiciness, used in the appropriate amount: it covers the past, but does not overwhelm it. Flavorful olive oil. The selection of wines is good, and not overpriced (by local restaurant prices...)
Two minor complaints:
1. They were out of gluten-free dough for pizza and of burrata. In a grocery store?
2. The place closes early. We went to get coffee and ice cream, and they asked us to leave while we were eating it. Should warn customers at the time of service, or, better yet, tell people that they will have to leave in 15 minutes -- or reserve a small area to be cleaned later.
Amazing food and service, had the margherita pizza and the spaghetti pomodoro and highly recommended both. Ambiance was great too felt like I was in Italy!
Food & service never disappoints. Always my go-to place ❤️
The service was excellent- we had the squash ravioli and candidly while it was tasty - we thought the serving was a bit skimpy. Plus we drove in from the burbs and parked across the street- $54 for parking - yikes!
One my top Italian pasta restaurants in Chicago. The pasta was not too rich. Portion sizes were great! Priced super fair! Then you get to shop afterwards. Loved the option of desserts in eataly post dinner. Customer service was fantastic!
Slow service, food was just ok, table was on wall with shopping carts cruising by. We won’t be back.
Eataly is certainly not your typical place to have a sit down dinner - served excellent food while sitting near the hustle and bustle of a busy Italian food grocery store. The restaurant is sectioned off from the shoppers and the numerous food kiosks, but it's crowded and a bit hectic. All that is worth it because the food is so well prepared and tasty. Good Italian wine choice too!
The server was a little rude. We asked for hot water but she said we have to go downstairs to get it ourselves. If so, then why are we tipping you? What is service charge? What service are you really providing us?!
We dined at La Pizza La Pasta twice during our trip to Chicago. We really enjoyed the meatballs and the shortrib ragu was simply amazing! David and Chad were both very good and attentive servers. Would recommend for sure!
Very disappointed with the service in general, Our server took our order left he did bring the main course and left without saying a word , our pasta was cold he never offered some cheese, after like 10 minutes I had to ask somebody else for it!! I did order also marguerita pizza but this time was burn!! I want to call my server atención, but he will never came back to check on my party!! By this time we were very upset!! We ask for the check which never came only after one my people’s party got up and ask for it at the front!! Really my late Christmas dinner was absolutely a disappointment, I wouldn’t recommend this place to any of my family or friends!!
We love dining at Eataly when we visit Chicago. The kids love coloring in their sheets to choose the shape and toppings for their pizza and normally it’s great.
Unfortunately this visit was different - our pasta was crunchy. The noodles were undercooked.
When we mentioned it to the server he acted like it was simply a preference and offered to remake it which would take an additional 25 minutes or sauté it. It was 9pm and we had kids practically falling asleep at the table. We discussed that I didn’t think sautéing it would work and he said they couldn’t whip up another dish quickly. Anyways, it came back out and the noodles were chewy and stuck to your teeth. Completely unedible and yet we still paid for it.
Pasta was not good, sauce very strong, noodles hard. Pizza however was great. Service slow
OverpricedPizza arrived soggy in the center and the crust was burnt was not worth the wait or the money
Came here for a late lunch on New Years Eve. I have never been here before, so not sure what to fully expect. It is a little overwhelming. Maybe because it was very crowded in the store and maybe because there are a few different types of restaurant places to eat in it, that I found it a little hard to navigate to the LaPizza & LaPasta Restaurant. Service was very good as was the food. Prices were a little on the high side in the restaurant and the store, but that won’t stop me from coming back. Enjoyable experience.
Delicious, authentic Italian food and friendly staff.
We wanted to love it. We've been to Italy and tasted delicious and beautifully cooked Neapolitan style pizza. Unfortunately, the crust on our pizzas was soggy and spongy. I didn't need it crisp, but at least cooked. Flavors of the sauce and toppings were tasty, however. We mentioned it to our server (VERY busy) who said "if you want a well done pizza we can do that for you" and continued walking by before we could answer. We were starving so we ended up eating our pizzas. About 30 minutes after our initial feedback to the server (and after eating), the manager came to us to address our complaint and offered them to us free. That didn't seem right to do since we went ahead and ate both pizzas. We declined the free pizzas, paid the bill and accepted an offer of a free tiramisu (it was my birthday), but after 20 minutes of waiting for the dessert, we walked away. Won't be rushing back any time soon. Ambiance is nice, but if you're looking for wonderful pizza, look elsewhere. Sorry.
Too expensive for what u get :-( Portions for example Lasagne are really small - Taste was ok
They sat our group of 5 in a spot that seats 3. Had to spend 15 mins talking to staff to squeeze us in a 4 seat arrangement a few feet away that was unoccupied. pasta was fantastic. pizza was good but not crispy. Eataly is an amazing place to visit.
Great atmosphere for kids. Service was fine, food and value was fantastic!
Really good, but not a ton of creativity or flexibility. Above average, and great overall experience.
We had a 10pm reservation. I got a call at 9:20 asking if we were still coming in because they closed at 10. When we got there at 9:30, we were obviously the last table to be served. Felt rushed through dinner; did not ask us if we wanted to order dessert.
Food was ok... expected better
Really good food. Great service. Even made a special shaped pizza for my goddaughter. Would definitely go back and recommended.
It was our first time with two kids and they loved the pasta and pizza. Kids’ meal was excellent. I ordered sausage-mushroom pizza. The center crust was a bit soggy but overall it tasted delicious. Wine was delicious and reasonably priced. We will definitely return.
The did not have their truffle pizza available. This is the 2nd time this has happened. For a restaurant/experience Eataly provides, one would think they would have enough food to offer what it says on their menu. After all it is pizza and mushrooms.
Always a treat to eat here! We had a reservation and when I went to check she confirmed it but then asked if I'd rather be seated right away -- so we got to eat an hour early! Good thing too - the line was LONG!
I don’t usually give bad reviews, and I even went to Eataly the next day and asked someone to call me before I wrote a review (they didn’t). I am an avid fan of Eataly and always recommend it to visiting friends and family. However, this time they missed the mark! There were 3 of us- my husband ordered lasagna and my son and I split a pizza (with sausage and mushroom). We also all split a large salad (with Gem lettuce, radicchio, endive, radish,
ricotta salata, red wine vinaigrette). The salad was so bitter it was inedible- there was little to no bib lettuce to counter the bitterness of the other ingredients. My husband’s lasagna was dried out, as if it had been cooked a long time ago. Our first pizza we sent back- the cheese was not even melted on the pizza and the middle was a pool of liquid. The 2nd pizza was not much better- there was no cheese on half of the pizza and the pool of liquid was still sitting the middle of the thin, soggy and sticky crust. I asked the waiter when we were done with our very disappointing dinner if the pizza always was wet like that and he said “yes, it’s from the mushrooms “. Now there was very little mushroom on this pizza, and they have crazy hot ovens that should be making amazing pizza crust. I love Chicago food and in 6 years here, this was the worst meal we have had . Was it a busy night? It was 5:30 pm, and yes, but it’s always busy- no excuses! I will be rethinking recommending the Pizza And Pasta Restaurant at Eataly.
Celebrating birthday. Table of 6, but room for table of 4.
Too small of a table. Not enjoyable at all.
Our waiter was great. Attentive and nice. The issue we had was with the host. When we first arrived, we asked for a table in about an hour and a half. The host looked at us like we were stupid and said “Well then, you need to make a reservation on Open Table, not here.” I am from out of town and didn’t know what “open table” was. I asked what that was and she rudely replied “ uhm? It’s an app. On your phone.” She made me feel like I was stupid and had no place being in Eataly. We decided to leave, make a reservation on Open Table and have a drink at Doc Bs across the street. 4 minutes after leaving Eataly and making the reservation, where there was “no open tables” we got a text saying that our table was ready. We cancelled that reservation and decided to go back across the street after we finished our drinks. When we arrived back at the host stand, we were greeted once again by this girls snotty attitude. She rudely stomped us to our table and slammed our menus down and walked away. I have been coming to Eataly every time I have came to Chicago for the last 8 years. This was the worst experience with a host I have ever had. She has no business being in this line of work, coming from somebody who has worked in the restaurant business before. We were celebrating our anniversary and this snotty girl completely ruined it. Firing her would be the best thing you could do for your business. She was short with short hair. All of the other hosts were lovely and we had no issue except for this one.
It was absolutely amazing! Can’t wait to go back! The food was authentic and and service was outstanding. The fools truly melted in your mouth.
It took 50 minutes to get our food even when there weren’t that many people at the restaurant.
I put it was my bday in the reservation notes but they didn’t acknowledge them. It felt like they just wanted us in and out. The food is amazing but the service is just ok. The food and service don’t match up too well in my opinion.
Our server was rude, ignorant and acted as if we were an inconvenience. I have grown up in the restaurant industry and can tell you that if any of my employees acted in this manor, they would be terminated immediately. Her disposition from the moment she approached the table, the way she handled our pizza being made wrong (it was supposed to have basil, we politely brought it to her attention, and she returned with two pieces of basil leaves the size of my hand and just put them on the table) to not asking if we were finished and dropping the bill. A complete disappointment.
Fantastic food and service!
Food took forever to come out
First time trying this place. After spending some time buying groceríes, we went to our chosen restaurant. Food was very good. Bread was somewhat stale. Waiter did not offer Parmesan cheese or pepper with olive oil or salad. Choice of salad is limited, but the arugula salad was pretty decent. Meatballs and lasagna were great. The zucchini bruschetta was an interesting appetizer. Too noisy and at times crowded, but maybe part of the experience. Got some gelato on our way out. I think it’s pricey for the choices. Don’t expect a deep dish pizza here (and you would have better options around the corner).
Delicious meal! Like when we were in Italy. The wines are superb and great selections. Food was serve fast! The only thing was needing to expand the menu choices but sometimes less is more! Tip: Reserve your table ahead of time.
