A neighborhood Bistrot located in Cleveland Park that stays faithful to its French roots offering the best French dishes on this side of the Atlantic
Executive Chef Francis Layrle prepares a daily menu with farm raised and seasonal fresh ingredients. The bar offers a carefully curated wine selection and house cocktails. La Piquette presents an authentic bistrot atmosphere the way it is meant to be: fun, simple and delicious.
I would give this five stars, EXCEPT for the NOISE. It is deafening, even the waiters can't hear you. If they would deal with this issue, this place is a hit. Sit outside your only hope for quiet, but not reserved. The food is excellent!
Nice place, with a good Bistro feel. Had the cassoulet; it was yummy!
Nice casual lunch course menu to treat myself.
Overall we had a wonderful time. However, when I made the reservation I specifically noted that we were celebrating my husband’s birthday, and nothing was ever said about that. In addition, the service was very slow. People around us who came later were served first. We really like your restaurant and love the food and relaxed atmosphere, but we were a little disappointed this time for these reasons.
Belated Mother’s Day dinner following a concert at Washington Cathedral. Lovely time.
Four of us had an unusually poor experience for Saturday brunch. Service was especially poor. Servers got parts of our orders wrong, and did not check in with us. It was hard to get the attention of a server to get coffee refills and a croissant that we thought had been forgotten arrived after the meal. Food was okay but not close to what we expect from La Piquette. Too bad.
La Piquette never disappoints! The staff are professional, kind and just-right attentive. The food is delicious!
Perfect for a date night, especially if you can get a table outside. Great food and service!
La Piquette is a hidden gem and may be the best French spot in town. The steak tartare is phenomenal and the grilled chicken is surprisingly exciting for a chicken dish. The canele and tart tatin should not be missed, so don’t skip dessert.m!
La Piquette is a nice French Bistro with good food. That day the weather was very nice and the doors were open and we enjoyed sitting inside/out.
Wonderful restaurant. We could eat there every week for lunch or dinner. Charming. Great waiters
Love the restaurant. Only drawback is that it is so noisy. Can't hear one's dinner companion. My wife now doesn't want to come only for that reason.
Our waiter made great recommendations from the menu. The meal was wonderful. We especially liked the sautéed mushrooms as a starter.
Great menu! Food didn't quite live up to the description. Still, a good time overall! They gave moms a rose for Mother's Day, which was very nice.
We came for Mother's Day brunch and it was a prix fixe menu for $65/pp. The food was outstanding- our table of 4 made sure to not order any of the same dishes so we could try a little bit of everything. Extra amazing were the beef tartar, terrine de foie gras, braised short ribs, and branzino. My only reason for 4 vs 5 stars is how slow services was (it took almost 3 hours with very long gaps between courses) and that my canneles were burnt (not sugar burnt, just black on the bottoms and extremely hard to try and cut.) I will definitely give them the benefit of the doubt and chalk it up to Mother's Day rush. I definitely plan to return and hope to make it for dinner on a regular service night!
Food was good, but not amazing. I found the descriptions on the menu somewhat misleading. For example the mushroom fricassee was described as coming with toast which made me believe it would be mushrooms that would be eaten on the toast, but it was really a big serving of mushrooms with one tiny piece of toast that was at best a garnish. Mushrooms were good, but dish wasn’t what I expected. Same with the entree. Ordered the rabbit, which was described as braised and served with linguine and some other things. I pictured a piece of rabbit with a side of linguine, but what I got was pasta with rabbit sauce. Again it was good, but not at all what I expected. In addition the sauce had five bites with pieces of gristle or bone that had not been taken out. That made the whole dish somewhat less than spectacular.
We had a great time! Really liked the French red wine , fresh bread with olive oil , duck breast and cream brûlée. The people are very nice and attentive. 👍🏻
We've been to La Piquette many times — it's one of our favorite spots in DC — but this outing was particularly special. We enjoyed an elegant Provençal rosé, delightful salads (mine was an amazing combination of grilled leeks and yellow beets, with yoghurt and mint), and delicious entrées: Norwegian grilled salmon and braised rabbits and spring vegetables over pasta. For dessert, there's really only one choice: the chocolate fondant. Love this place!
Great food, very good service, terrific outdoor dining. Our only concern is (indoor) noise. Nonetheless, we will return.
Excellent food, terrific service. Classic French cuisine with some modern touches.
This is a great neighborhood restaurant serving delicious French food. Service and attention to customers is above average. Will recommend to friends and will return often. Only negative is the noise level.
We love La Piquette and have recommended it to many friends. The service is first rate; knowledgeable, friendly, professional. The food is excellent. When we were there this time, a table of obnoxious Americans moved in next to us halfway through our meal and proceeded to shout unnecessarily to each other. Ugh. Really not the fault of the restaurant, which is small and intimate. Could somebody please tell them they’re not at Dave & Buster’s?
The classic French food at La Piquette is always excellent. I especially like the tender, flavorful roasted duck à l’orange. The apple tart (actually on buttery crispy phyllo) with vanilla ice cream is sublime. The restaurant is very popular, crowded & noisy, so it can be better to go early or late. Outdoor seating available. A neighborhood gem.
Can't say enough superlatives about La Piquette. Best French bistro in D.C. Atmosphere is genuine and not pretentious. Staff are great.
Always outstanding, great food and wine selections , excellent service charming team
Always excellent from food , service to wine
Love this restaurant!!
Fabulous service and atmosphere! The best risotto I've ever had!
Great food, great location, and plenty of options. Service was slower than I am accustomed to but it did not distract from the overall experience.
Too loud and tables too close!! But the food and service are excellent
Best French bistro in DC. Great food and service. Food has a real French vibe not made up American.
Service is friendly and efficient. Weekends can be busy so reserve ahead.
This excellent and fun bistro, along with Bestrot L'Epic have been my favorites for the past year + This is the best menu around for French bistro fare. Service is terrific and friendly. A tad boisterous on a Friday night but that's what makes it fun! Lunch and brunch also great.
Excellent! We’ll be back. Unique and exceptional dining experience
Great French bistro-style cuisine. The lamb T-Bone and duck confit are outstanding. I do, however, wish the wine list were more interesting. This is DC, after all, and plenty of lower-end venues have fat more extensive wine lists!
We had a wonderful birthday celebration at La Piquette. It's a very festive place, with delicious French food. We would definitely recommend it, and will return another time.
Always excellent! We enjoy coming again and again!
Our go-to restaurant! Excellent food, friendly staff and great ambiance. All dishes are fantastic.
Wonderful! From the start it was a terrific experience. The wait staff were charming, the food was delicious, and the ambience was lovely.
SUPER French bistro! It's a great neighborhood restaurant offering a huge selection of menu items, very generous portions, and authentic French cuisine. I can't wait to go back. Especially loved the beet & braised leek salad, Frissee salad w/lardons and poached egg, duck breast l'orange, and skate wing w/caper sauce. They have outside seating too!
La Piquette is a very convivial restaurant with lovely waitstaff and a very joyful Bistro environment. We’ve had some very nice meals here and we’ve had some uneven food. The grilled foie gras was outstanding and such a treat. The skate wing was beautifully cooked, very hot but the spinach salad was way too vinegary to enjoy properly. Escallope d’veau was pounded so thin that it was just breading, but the restaurant was very nice to take it off the bill. We enjoyed the apple tart although sad that the ice cream was already melted, and the crème brûlée was disappointing for a French bistro. The waitstaff are outstanding and it is a very happy place to be but it would be nice to think that the food is going to come out good all the time. Lastly the acoustics are really challenging, it is so loud that it’s very hard to talk. We love this restaurant and hope that they will make and roads in lifting their game.
