Amazing food. I have never had anything less than outstanding there. Big downside: it is noisy as all get-out. Maybe because they pack patrons in cheek by jowl, but we had to shout at each other to be heard. But, as I said. The food is so good it's worth it.
Food and service are always excellent but noise has become an issue. Sigh.
It's my favorite neighborhood restaurant. The atmosphere is always lively and fun, even though it can be quite loud, but it's all good energy. The food is consistently delicious and the service very attentive. I love the place.
Always reliable and delicious with great service! La Piquette is a wonderful French bistro with a broad menu of favorites and specials at a very affordable price!
Not nearly as good this time compared to our last visit. Cooking was uninspired and wait staff inattentive. Yet the restaurant was full, so maybe just an off night at our table.
Good food but pricey. Tables are packed in tight so not a good spot for a private conversation. Good variety of dishes.
Food was good but it is just too noisy. We went early at 5 to try to avoid but by the time we left, we had to scream at each other to be heard. Service was sporadic. I'd go back in warmer weather where I could sit in the patio where I hope it is quieter. Pate was excellent as was my grilled salmon. Husband's supposedly 11 oz. rib eye was chewy and raw. Frites good, excellent gateau l'orange. I had noted when making the reservation that it was a birthday, after bringing the dessert they later brought some tiny cake that was burned black on the outside, with a candle. The waiter asked how we enjoyed the dessert, I said the cake was fabulous but the "treat' was burned. He said "I know" and we never saw him again. Host brought our check. Meh.
My favorite restaurant in DC. The food is great, the service is amazing and very personal, and the place feels like an authentic bistro in Paris. Love La Piquette. I bring all my friends and family and they aways rave!
We came for lunch on a Wednesday. We had foie gras and veal as main courses, followed by apple tart and orange cake with crème anglaise and everything was delicious. Special mention for the orange cake. I love La Piquette and will come back. The restaurant is a bit too loud.
Fantastic experience both times (dinner) in November 2019. Extensive bistro menu. The sweetbread, prawn ceviche, duck a l'orange, scallops were all super fresh, delicious, and in balance. Desserts--we tried the orange cake and apple tart--were both excellent. Service was courteous, prompt, and not intrusive--a difficult balance to strike but perfectly delivered both times. Wine list also interesting with options for .5 liters on some wine. We plan to return often to try other dishes.
Always great food and service!
My two guests and I had a very enjoyable dinner there. The wine list is broad and reasonably priced. We all enjoyed our starters, mains and desserts.
It is a classic French bistro menu well executed at every stage.
It is a bit noisy so if you are hoping for a quiet conversation with friends, you mAy need to go early or elsewhere. It’s impressive the restaurant was so busy even on a Monday night, traditionally a slow evening for many places.
I enjoyed it, hope to return and am happy to recommend it to others.
Delicious fresh food expertly prepared.
The food never disappoints!
As always the food was excellent, the service efficient, and the noise level low enough that you could chat easily with the others at the table.
Fantastic food, wine list great, service good too. Can be VERY loud though, which makes conversation hard.
The food was excellent, although the puréed vegetables were somewhat underseasoned. The wine was well chosen for the dishes and was not overpriced. The service -- well, left a lot to be desired We waited a fair while before our order was taken, and after the first courses came, we waited an interminable amount of time before the mains. These were simple dishes (Dover sole and grilled branzino) and should have little preparation time. We finally had to summon the waiter to inquire about the delay. He checked back with the kitchen and said the chef was hurrying, and the dishes then came in about five minutes -- about the time it would take to prepare them from scratch. By this time, the restaurant was no longer so busy, and the only reason for the delay must have been that our order had simply been forgotten. The three of us ate at different rates, and were rather annoyed that the waiter cleared each person's service as they finished their meal. There was no reason for this, as it was nowhere near closing time; it was simply rude and unprofessional.
I would characterize the sound level by a less flattering term than you provide: "deafening" would come closer to the truth. We could hardly make ourselves hear over the din,
We loved the food! Everything we ordered was superb, including wonderful drinks. We'll return for sure in the near future.
Cheerful, friendly, good food. High noise only problem
I don’t know what has happened to this restaurant as it used to be good but the food and service were really lacking during brunch on Sunday. The service was incredibly slow and we had to ask multiple times just for coffee. It was strange as it wasn’t busy. The food was just so-so in my view. Others in our party thought the food was very poor. It is definitely not worth the price tag.
Two of us ordered chicken paillard. It was flavorless. And one was not cooked through. The waiter never checked on the status of the meal once it was delivered. I almost had to tackle him to alert him to pink chicken as he passed by as we wrapped up. He handled it very curtly if not rudely. I told him we didn’t want anything I just wanted to alert the chef so that no one would get sick if this happened to others.
I had been there once before with a favored customer and experienced the red carpet treatment vs the red chicken treatment so I know what the experience CAN be.
Also we had alerted the restaurant it was a birthday. That was never acknowledged.our hopes for a special luncheon were pretty well dashed.
I hope they reboot and improve because it is a great menu and lovely venue. I hate writing bad reviews but they deserve this one.
Lovely! We all enjoyed the food, seevers and quiet!
food was superb. The salmon was perfect. The gateau a l'orange dessert is to die for.
Based on the three items I tasted, I would say that La Piquette serves delicious food. However, be aware that it is very noisy, and the tables are too close together.
Wonderful French Bistro
Excellent French food in an informal atmosphere and good service.
With nothing more than good food (too salty for our taste) and incompetent service, this is not a restaurant we can recommend.
Everything was very good, as always, especially the rabbit.
The perfect neighborhood bistro. Exceptional food, great service, warm and bustling ambience.
Our party was promptly seated. The service was outstanding, many excellent choices of French bistro dishes...the wine offerings were well priced and paired well with our dinner choices.
We have been there many times and always regarded it as one of the best in town, but this time, the noise level was so high (indeed, off the charts) that our evening was in fact a disaster. There must be some way you can put in noise dampers without ruining the overall atmosphere. At this noise level, I suspect many others would-be diners will be driven away.
Everything from the atmosphere to the artichoke appetizer and mushroom risotto were delightful. We will definitely eat here again.
Freshest take on bistro cuisine in the city! Grilled chicken is phenomenal, as are leeks and beets appetizer, t-bone lamb steak. Don't miss the apple tart--thinly sliced apples on puff pastry with of just the right amount almond filling. Perfect end to delicious meal!
This was an unusual experience. Service at La Piquette, normally friendly and attentive, was alternately rushed and slow, the waitstaff seemed distracted, and the atmosphere chaotic. And while not the restaurant ‘s fault, during our meal two patrons arrived with a very large (and well behaved) dog who, due to his size, took up a great deal of the narrow space between our table. It’s owner made no attempt to find space for the dog away from our feet. Neither did the staff. We neither fawned over the dog nor commented on the situation. Nevertheless, as we left one of these patrons said in a loud voice clearly meant for our ears, “clearly not dog people.” No, I like dogs a lot; it’s their rude and inconsiderate humans I can do without.
I love this place, but the servers could be more interested in their customers. They make you feel that they are only there to take orders and deliver them, but don't seem interested in much else. They do nothing more.
Our favorite restaurant. We almost always end up there for any personal event and just for an ordinary weekend as well. We've been to most of the DC top places and we know that La Piquette can't be beat for consistency, menu selection, ambience quality and service. This was our 45th, and Chef Francis did not disappoint. He never misses a beat and goes out of his way to often check on his customers as well. Looking forward to our next visit!
We had a delicious lunch . The sweetbreads au madere are the best I have ever had even better than La Cupole in Paris. The service was excellent. La Piquette has a very informal atmosphere like a Paris Bistro. The blanc vin du jour was very nice. Parking if not available nearby on the street can be had in the Giant lot across the street.
The service was very nice, the ambience pleasant but the small tables and closeness of the tables was a bit challenging. Unfortunately, the duck l’orange was tasty and well presented but too tough to chew.
The ambiance is more pleasant in the evening.
If you prefer quieter, more suitable for a conversation table, ask for a patio table. The main dining room can be really noisy.
Service is good but varies a lot. Usually, better at dinner time.
Most importantly, the food is reliably excellent.
ALWAYS EXCELLENT! WE GO TO LA PIQUETTE REGULARLY AND ARE NEVER DISAPPOINTED. FINE FOOD AND TERRIFIC, VERY PERSONAL, SERVICE!
