La Petite Grocery
The La Petite Grocery name pays homage to the history of its home, a building that’s been standing for more than a century. The original structure was built in the late 1800s and called the Central Tea, Coffee and Butter Depot. In 1908, a fire devastated the space and it was transformed into a full service grocery store. Later it was most notably a fine foods and butcher shop, VonderHaar’s Fine Foods until 1982. When La Petite Grocery opened in March of 2004, they similarly aspired to provide the neighborhood with exotic teas, locally roasted coffee, and fresh produce. By doing this, we hope to provide a dining experience that evokes nostalgia of old New Orleans.
Turtle Bolognese was delicious. Yellowfin tuna melted in your mouth! Finished the meal off with the roasted beets and mac n cheese sides! Overall a great meal and exceptional service!
It was delicious from start to finish! Gio was a great waiter and brought a special dessert for my daughter for her birthday!
The atmosphere was really great...The service was wonderful and the drinks were very spirited...Had a great dinner and even dessert..
One of my favorite places in New Orleans. I got to share this gem with a dear friend who came down from Dallas to surprise me as I was in NOLA on business. Alex, our waiter, and Michelle, the bartender, could NOT have been more accommodating. I told my friend it didn’t matter what she ordered, food or drink, she wouldn’t be disappointment. I told her the crab beignets were a must though! She settled for the lamb shank, the French 75 and 2 Brandy Alexanders for dessert. I had my usual, the shrimp and grits. Best in NOLA as far as I’m concerned. She was beyond pleased and I was beyond happy! You all never ever disappoint! THANK YOU!!
Truly outstanding in every way. The blue crab beignets are a must. One of the best burgers I’ve ever eaten.
Every bite delicious. It was everything that we were waiting for during our trip to New Orleans and the one perfect meal.
This is by far one of my favorite places in NOLA. The crab beignets are a must. Love everything on the menu!
The food here is really pretty good. Been here a few times. The place is nice and well designed. The service was a little off this time, but didn’t change the flavor.
Excellent as always. Most consistent restaurant in the city.
Always reliable. A favorite restsurant
Mother’s Day was made even more special by the staff. Everyone was so attentive. They did an amazing job of making my first Mother’s Day an unforgettable one. Thanks again.
Prompt courteous service, delicious food and wine, reasonably priced!!! Overall a very nice Saturday night dinner!!!
Excellent early business meal on a Friday evening and everyone one ate the speckled trout special fish entree which was fabulous. The service was attentive and professional while the wine complemented the fish in a synergistic fashion. Great meal!!
I can always count on having a great meal here! I especially love the Turtle Bolognese, the frites and cocktails!
Nice Neighborhood Bistro - the food is good, as is the wine list, and the service is attentive. But it can get loud when it fills up and it tends to be pricy. Our bill was over $200 for salads and entrees for 2 with a bottle of Cabernet from the low end of the wine list, which puts it in the range of better Uptown restaurants.
The food was delicious. The crab beignets were amazing. The service was excellent prior to and after ordering but after dinner, as the restaurant got busier, it took forever to get our dishes removed. The parking lot available to patrons was a plus.
Not one of better dining experiences at this establishment. Service was slow and less attentive than usual. The party of 10 gents seated before us were very loud and spoiled the ambiance. The tuna and snapper entrees were awesome.
Food and service was great! I only gave it 4 stars because I feel like they should make their outdoor sitting area more inviting for a 3 dollar sign restaurant, if they are going to continue to sit people outside. It ruined the experience for me, as the location of the restaurant is also not in a pleasant area. They have no patio setup, flowers, plants, nothing! So just throwing some chairs and literally two tables on the side of the property was very strange, looked awful and felt uncomfortable. Will sit inside for sure next time!
Always amazing. Fantastic service. Very helpful (and spot on) recommendations. I’m never sorry to return to LPG.
Service was a little off. Fried Green Tomatoes and Special salad were great. Ricotta Dumplings were to
dense, like a string cheese texture. The Pierogi was good but not how the waiter described it. The food in this area of New Orleans is so amazing, you have to be at the top of your game every night and we felt they were a little off.
We got lucky and got a last minute reservation here. Enjoyed the food, ambiance and service. Cool spot.
We were in town for Jazzfest. I was surprised that the food and service wasn’t more spot on since it had received a James Beard award. It was fine, but we certainly would not go back. Our server was delightful and the Sommelier made great recommendations, but the food was just o.k. In my opinion.
We love La Petite Grocery. They have the best Bloody Mary and shrimp and grits. I highly recommend the restaurant.
Best of the Best - The Butterscotch Pudding was an unexpected delight. This was a treat and we enjoyed immensely the showcase of the culinary arts at its finest! Thank you for caring about the details and nuances of everything.
Fun restaurant-really nice atmosphere and our server was very good. Our gumbo was way to salty to eat and the apple salad was fine but not very interesting. $100+ dollars for lunch?
Excellent restaurant set in lovely garden district. Lovely ambiance - service was spectacular and food was amazing. Wish they would offer some brunch items on Saturday, as they do on Sunday. Our reservation was 11:30 and one in our party wanted brunch. Fortunately the lunch is spectacular too so all ended up very pleased!
Everything was delicious. I would have ordered more if my stomach could have held any more. Highly recommend.
The sommelier was just terrific. Our waiter stirred us towards some fun choices. We had a travel issue for one on our party and they were really nice about hanging in with waiting for them.
High level food, worthy of the acclaim.
Turtle pasta was outstanding. Every dish was perfect.
The food was good, service was great. It was a bit further out into the Garden District which was not what we expected. First time visitors to New Orleans, so our mistake on location.
One of the best food experiences I have had. The food was fantastic and a wine pairing was recommended and much appreciated! We so enjoyed this restaurant, even waiting for our reservation at the bar was a treat! Thank you so much...we will be back for sure!
Apparently, past awards are no longer an accurate measure for this restaurant, which is now serving over cooked rabbit, seafood ( small portion of snapper ), has slovenly attired waitstaff and over priced entrées. The noise level is very loud for this small establishment and not at all intimate. Again, way over rated.
I was stunned to see so many diners in the front area pulling out mobile phones to shine light on the menu so they could read it. I thought it was just our table. No. Diners at every table were doing it. Do you not pay attention or care about that? I guess not. My suggestion: print the menus on white paper and/or turn up the lighting a little. It doesn't have to be bright white, or even as bright as the back room, but come on. Put a flashlight on every table if you care so little. This really irritated everyone at our table because it reflects indifference. That's not good in any service industry.
Fish special came out cold .. dried out after reheating
Bucatelli turtle bolognese. Too little bucatelli .... one spoonful
Dinner was delicious-especially the crab beignets! Nice atmosphere as well.
It’s a beautiful and cozy space, nicely decorated and lit. Food was outstanding.
Overall it was a good experience but not exceptional. Portion sizes were rather small for what you were paying for. The server was a bit too aloof for my taste. We actually left after our appetizers. However it is a nice place for a special occasion if you are willing to pay more for less.
Food with beautiful Presentation. A little more pricey than my typical lunch but the flavors are amazing. Not your typical lunch:)
