About La Petite Grocery

We welcome you in joining us for Lunch, Dinner & Sunday Brunch. Come dine in this beautifully restored Uptown restaurant on Magazine Street and enjoy James Beard Award Winning Chef Justin Devillier's contemporary Louisiana Cuisine.

The La Petite Grocery name pays homage to the history of its home, a building that’s been standing for more than a century. The original structure was built in the late 1800s and called the Central Tea, Coffee and Butter Depot. In 1908, a fire devastated the space and it was transformed into a full service grocery store. Later it was most notably a fine foods and butcher shop, VonderHaar’s Fine Foods until 1982. When La Petite Grocery opened in March of 2004, they similarly aspired to provide the neighborhood with exotic teas, locally roasted coffee, and fresh produce. By doing this, we hope to provide a dining experience that evokes nostalgia of old New Orleans.

The food was fabulous. So happy! I cannot stop thinking about the Roast Chicken. Amazing flavor with the entire dish. I recommend this place to everyone!

First time at this landmark restaurant in NOLA. It did not disappoint. The blue crab beignets were perfect. I had the short rib app for dinner and split a side of Mac and Cheese with my husband, who had a burger bc that’s what he was craving. The short rib was fantastic; the Mac and Cheese as decadent as it sounds. All good. No misses at this restaurant.

First, the food was outstanding. Food quality was marvelous, flavor pallet was top notch, and ingredient freshness was exceptional.

Second, the waitstaff and overall service sets the bar for what every restaurant should measure itself.

Third, the value was on point. I will not hesitate to spend more to get more. With this meal, I felt I received everything I paid for and then some.

I will recommend this establishment and will not hesitate to return!!!

Not being from New Orleans, we eat at La Petite almost every time we come into town. This is uptown New Orleans at it's finest. Good cocktails, great whiskey and wine selections. Crabmeat beignets and fried green tomatoes for appetizers. Shrimp & grits and turtle bolognese for our meals. Never disappoints.

Everything superb except for hospitality - we had a reservation for a group of 7 at 11:30 for lunch. It was extremely cold in NOLA that day with a wind chill in the 20s- we got there ten minutes early and were not allowed to walk into the restaurant until precisely 11:30. I found this very inhospitable as it was really cold. Then the waitstaff was unfriendly, not ugly, but unsmiling and perfunctory. Not at all what I have experienced at LPG before.
Manager needs training in guest hospitality. Otherwise, food and ambience as good as ever.

This was an excellent meal and my favorite meal that I had in New Orleans. Would highly recommend this to anyone who loves great service, wine and food. The crab beignets, shrimp and grits and creme brulee were AMAZING.

The food was fantastic. We ordered all small plates. Lobster bisque, seared scallops and salad special were all excellent, but my absolute favorite was the fried quail which arrived as two mostly boneless halves drizzled with a light creamy tart sauce. Dessert was a citrus-cheesecake concoction with chocolate.

Overall a lovely evening! Well balanced and thoughtful yet humble food. This is the type of place that i could dine at once a month if i were of higher status in the socio-economic structure. As my income allows, i am more than pleased i get to eat here about twice a year. ALWAYS SOLID through and through.

We read a favorable review and noticed James Beard award and were not disappointed. The hostess let us pick a secluded table near a window. We started with two honest cocktails followed by outstanding crab beignets. The red snapper dinner special, served with romanesco and bok Choy was delicious. We ordered a bottle of French Burgundy that was presented by a knowledgeable som. Our server was friendly and attentive but not overbearing. It’s a 15 minute ride from the Quarter and worth the trip.

Upon arrival, we were seated in the bar area. We were there for an anniversary dinner and did not find it optimal, so we asked to move. The waiter graciously obliged. Upon moving us, we were also served with a champagne glass each for our celebration. The service was excellent, and the food may have even been better. The crab beignets are unbelievable. The scallops are a delight. The fish special was a beautiful dish, and the chocolate dessert was heavenly as well. The wine and drinks were on point, too. Overall, this was probably one of our best dining experiences in all of our trips to New Orleans. We will most surely return!

Beautiful food. My husband won’t eat dark meat.He was amazed by the fried quail. Grillled shrimp is full of flavor. Its pear tart dessert has balanced texture and sweetness. Its cocktail is good too. It is the best meal we had in New Orleans.

It was unseasonably cold during our trip to New Orleans. Camille our server changed our table to a warmer spot in the restaurant.

Our shellfish stew was very special, with a tasty, sublime broth and just enough fish and collard greens.

Everything was outstanding about this experience - the food, the atmosphere, the service. One of the best meals I've had in a long time - delicious pumpkin soup and apple salad. My meat lover family members devoured the steak and the burger. Everyone enjoyed the fried green tomatoes. We'd go back in a heart beat. Bravo La Petite Grocery!

Booked a last minute reservation for two at LPG the day of, for a birthday celebration. We arrived fairly early and the hostess greeted us warmly, and promptly seated us at our table. The restaurant was pretty full, but everything was timed perfectly by their courteous and attentive wait staff. Started off with specialty cocktails which hit the spot and allowed us time to peruse the menu and hear the specials. We were also treated to an amuse of smoked fish. Ordered some amazing apps to share. When ordering the main course, the Som helped us pick out the perfect bottle of red to accompany our choices. Everything was delicious. Was treated to a vanilla cream puff with birthday candle - understated and thoughtful as we split the ice cream trio. A perfect evening and stress-free.

We are visiting from SoCal and wanted to find a neighborhood gem and we did! Quaint, great and not fussy food, served in a truly lovely yet modern, clean space. We actually stepped away from traditional NoLa fairs and had delicious burgers. The butterscotch pudding is worth the calories- it’s a wow.
