La Pastaria - Red Bank
La Pastaria in Red Bank starts with classic appetizers such as fried calamari, mussels in marinara sauce as well as salads like the classic Caesar or the caprese. Larger dishes include Shrimp Arrabiatta, Chicken Valdostano, Double Cut Pork Chop Giambotta as well as classics like Sunday gravy.
Sadly this the fourth and LAST time I will be dining here. All four times have had the same disappointment. Had to open my own bottle of wine after waiting 20 mins for someone to even acknowledge us in a place that was only at half capacity. Had risotto balls which were amazing, leaving me optimistic. Sadly, reality set in when we were handed our pasta entrees. 3 bites into my pasta with “gravy” aka unflavored beef broth, and I pushed it aside. Same for my wife who had the delight of her pasta sitting in a bowl of chicken broth or what the chefs believed to interpret as a “white wine sauce”. Our polite waiter didn’t question our disgust as he seems to have become accustomed to people returning their meals as I watched several people send theirs back. Not only that, we watched as people walked back to the kitchen/waitstaff area to voice their disgust and cancel orders. The place has/had a lot of potential if it wasn’t for the management if there is any. The entire staff was visibly disoriented with no support.. There will not be a fifth experience
Very disappointing… the inside felt like a cave, dark and outdated. Service ridiculously slow and inattentive. Pizza was horrible… it should be removed from menu as it is not representative of NJ pizza.
Love this place. Food is consistently good.
Was there in April and had a wonderful experience. Because of that we returned with a table of 5. While the food was good the attitude of the hostess (owner?? So rumor has it. I hope not) from the minute we arrived was terrible. Waited for almost 10 minutes to be seated for our reservation as she sat discussing a work schedule with an employee who was busy looking at his phone and talking with her about his upcoming week. Finally a server came and seated us. As we were leaving the light by the exit vestibule was out and it was very dark. We asked her if she could turn it on (my 89 year old mother, along with the rest of our party, was having trouble seeing) and by the time she meandered over we had used our phones to light the way out. Needless to say we won’t be returning or recommending. Very disappointed and surprised as we wanted to support this local restaurant especially during this time.
Mediocre restaurant. From food to service, there was not one thing I can say good about this restaurant.
We haven’t been in YEARS and I forgot what I was missing ! Polenta appetizer and stuffed escarole were fantastic. Entrees of veal shank and my husband squid ink linguine were amazing. Will definitely be back! Only draw back is the noise level, which was very high, but I think it is due to all the tile walls and floors. Best meal we’ve had in quite sone time
The food is always excellent. Great menu selection. The staff is friendly and professional. Always an enjoyable experience.
Getting together with friends for the first time since the pandemic.
We enjoyed our meals on the start of a Holiday Weekend. With Covid rules relaxed the restaurant was packed. The wait team was short staffed, but big kudos to the team for being able to handle unnecessarily rude and uncaused for complaining guests. One table had the audacity to leave without paying- totally unwarranted.
The food was tasty and fairly priced.
The service is to be commended for rising above the challenges they faced.
It was good to be out and supporting restaurants by dining out again.
Great spot of a nice meal. Off the main hustle and bustle of Red Bank but still close enough to walk to everything. Good food and service. BYOB is always a plus.
Will be back.
We love La Pastaria always a great time
We went the evening before Mother’s Day and it actually our anniversary. They sat us in a corner table in the back even though it was only the two of us. It was roomy and quiet. It was our first time going there and the food was delicious. The only thing was I didn’t realize it BYOB but that’s on me for not checking.
We would definitely return in the future.
The service was horribly lacking. Horribly. And, in times of COVID where restaurants were supposed to be at 50% max capacity, they were at 100%.
Excellent service and food. Will definitely return!
Service was very poor. There were a number of items on the menu that they had run out of so it was limited. The clams we had were bad clams we had to throw them out for the money that we spent on the food it was definitely not worth it
We went for my husbands birthday after our previous reservation was cancelled. It was a hit with everyone we went with. We really enjoyed our appetizers and dinners. I did feel like it took a bit for our dinners to come out of the kitchen but when they did they were nice and hot so i wasn’t complaining g
When we arrived at the restaurant they said they had no reservation for us. Apparently for two days they were having issues with Open Table reservations booking tables that they did not in fact have available. They were very rude and never apologized. At 6:15 on a Saturday night in Redbank they told us we had to leave. Looking around the restaurant I saw at least 8 empty tables but they said they were booked for the rest of the night and people were coming in later and that I had to leave.
La Pastaria was delicious! The service always superb!it was a busy nite but all our needs were attended to quickly & pleasantly. Our waitress, Jennifer, took very good care of us’
No social distancing, tables crowded together, way more than 50% capacity.
Excellent service and excellent food! You could feel the family atmosphere
On balance the food was quite good and the service was fine but the restaurant could be spruced up a bit.
Dinner for 2 on April 3. The restaurant has a classic Italian vibe, although the fresco paintings looked more homemade than real art. We were first seated by the windows overlooking the street, which would have been nice but ended up moving to the interior due to it feeling chilly.
We only ordered entrees. My date had the red snapper, which was quite thick and unfortunately was spicy hot (and that quality was not noted in the menu). My date only picked at it as she has some gastric issues. Came with an abundance of mashed potatoes. So the portions were big.
I had the Chicken Valdostano. Chicken breast stuffed with proscuitto, mozzarella, red peppers, and a marsala mushroom sauce. It was tasty, and also a large portion. I opted for a garden salad rather than a starch, and it was basic iceberg lettuce with a few add ons.
We looked at the dessert menu, but decided that a large sugar/carb sendoff was not in order for us. Instead we had some dark chocolate squares at home, which was a good choice.
So, La Pasteria had a nice atmosphere, very good service, and large portions. Too bad the snapper was spicy - that should be noted in the menu. Otherwise a nice meal.
Have eaten here many times. It has always been consistently good; both food and service. Perhaps it is due to the COVID 19 pandemic, but the food was mediocre and the service was very bad. Understaffed resulting in a considerable wait to even be acknowledged. I hope it returns to its former self.
Great old school Italian. An abundance of classic offerings mixed with trendy specials. Very friendly and attentive wait staff. Only recommendation would be to warm the foccacia before serving without folks needing to request it.
Food was ver;y good as usual. my girlfriend had a pnne past special which was really delicious.(I had the leftovers) I had the Sunday Sauce which was ok but nothing special. Sausgae were out of this world but meatball was a little heavy and hard. Acorn Squash Salad was excellent. We should have had two of those. Reallly Goood!
Food was very mediocre. Started with a basket of stale bland focaccia bread that was hard and inedible. Salads were fresh. Pasta dish was very unimpressive.
Loved it!! Great food and service. Looking forward to going again.
The food was excellent. Big portions. However it seemed it exceeded occupancy restrictions. Tables too close together.
Everything was great, but there seemed to be a problem using my reward dollars.
Ended up working out, but this restaurant should double check how to use/process Open Table rewards, so there is no glitches.
We aske don the phonetic they served alcohol were told they did, drove1hr only to find out they don’t. So we left
Everything was nice. We felt very safe . The food was delicious and our waitress was very nice and personable. Plus it’s a byob which means we loved our own wine selection
Never had a bad meal here - everything is always very fresh. The Spicy Sausage Meatballs were to die for.
Great food and a nice place to have a BYOB dinner. The ambiance is definitely caught in the late 80-90’s and could use a refresh, but that won’t keep us from going back.
The place was packed. Way more than allowable 35% for covid. Most of the staff had masks below their nose. Food was good but won’t return until totally vaccinated and some restrictions lifted.
Overall good, but very crowded for a place that is only supposed to be at 35% and all tables/seating not 6feet apart!
2nd visit, they were short staffed. We sat at 6:50, and couldn't place our order until 7:35 after I complained. 1st courses (salad and vegetable nepoleon) were fine. I substituted mashed potatoes with my entree for roasted. They were luke warm and soggy.
Ladies room was out of order, no lock on the men's room door. We didn't leave until 9:00 and that was without dessert.
My birthday was on Ash Wednesday so no meat for us. We shared some appetizers, fried calamari was delicious but the fresh mozzarella was a bit weird. Not sure how to describe it.
The lasagna portions were huge & delicious. I enjoyed shrimp arrabiatta & really enjoyed it. We didn’t have dessert there because we had cake at home but the dessert menu looked very good. Everyone had enough leftovers for another dinner the next night. It’s also BYOB which is great.
Our waitress was so nice & eager to please.
Good value delicious Italian food. Enjoyed shrimp arrabiata, chicken Murphy and spaghetti limoncello with cheese. Friendly attentive service. Yummy focaccia bread too!
Great meal in a classic, romantic setting. Service was top notch and surprised how reasonable the bill was....defiantly recommend it
