La Palapa Restaurant Ratings and Reviews
DELICIOUS BUT DISAPPOINTED.
The setting is amazing and the food was delicious. Having said that, I had the tortilla soup (which was excellent) but the bowl it is served in is very pretty and very impractical and made eating it very awkward. It's one of those form over function things. The bowl is very wide at the brim, narrow at the base - it looks like a wide-brimmed hat turned upside down. The only way to eat the soup is to constantly tip the bowl. My main was the al pastor chicken, different from what I expected, but again, it was delicious. The veggies, however, were barely lukewarm. All in all, it's a lovely restaurant but because of these somewhat minor issues I was a bit disappointed.
Always a wonderful experience to dine at La Palapa and was able to share it with a great friend on this visit. Service was wonderful, food was great and the best part was the live entertainment of the band due of Paperboats. Looking forward to my next dining experience in 2018!
Very polite genteel servers sincerely wanting to please. Great specialty margaritas. Creative appetizers and
entrees. Two suggestions: Improve the quality of the coffee. It was very thin and tasteless. And provide a small flashlight to each table on the beach to better read menus.
Delightful dining experience for sure!
An excellent evening at La Palapa. We started the evening with Mezcal Margaritas and watched the sun set. Followed by lobster and shrimp taquitos and pork potstickers. Both were delicious. For mains we had the pan seared scallops, chicken breast and boneless short ribs. All were very good. Very flavourful and tastefully presenter. They had a sommelier to assist with wine selection. Desert were wonderful. Our favourites were the flourless chocolate brownie and the warm apple crumble. Service was superb!
We ate down on the beach which is a lovely setting. All of the dishes the four of us had were very good. Service was slow and it was hard to determine who the lead was on our table. There was a very large party seated near us so perhaps this through them off.
Enjoyable dinner and atmosphere but sadly the service declined after our meal was served. The table next to us had the attention of our waiter because of the large group and we waited an hour for someone to clear our plates and even check if we wanted dessert.
Service is great, ambiance and view is great, food just isn't worth the price. Came here for my mother's birthday dinner. Only decent thing was the shrimp and lobster taquitos. Coconut shrimp was dry, could taste the flour, no real flavor. Our entrees were salty and not filling. Definitely wouldn't recommend for anything other than grabbing a cocktail. Food is way overpriced and the quality and flavors don't match up.
Amazing food just over salted. But even then, still the best food your going to find in Puerto Vallarta. Went there 3 times each time the food was oversalted. The third time I had to say something to the waiter in order for them to hopefully improve for the future.
Let me start with saying the food was absolutely fantastic. The seafood was some of the tastiest we've had. Coconut shrimp and seared tuna were amazing. Location is great, and it's a nice atmosphere on the beach with good live music (at the right volume where you can still hear each other). That being said, the service and drinks let them down. When we arrived we were left sitting for 10 minutes with noone approaching. Then someone brought over a single margarita to try and said something about us needing to order cocktails as they're so good. Despite there being two of us only one of us received a drink ?! If it's a cost thing, better to pour into two shotglasses?!
Also the cocktail menu really let the side down, extremely limited with some local basic ones. Traditional ones weren't available despite the attempted upsell to premium spirits. Bread came out after around 40minutes. I think we could have just been a bit unlucky with timings etc or maybe our waiter was having an off night. Once again the food was fantastic and the restaurant has a lovely ambience. It's just a shame the initial impression set us back. Would give it another try though. One thought - the lobster was somewhat sparse for the money. Better going for the seared tuna!
This restaurant was amazing! The ambiance can’t be beat! Our table was in the sand and just beautiful! We took our 4 kids and they played in sand after they ate which was perfect for entertaining them! Service could have been better but we will definitely go back if we are ever in PV again!
Beautiful restaurant and I want to love this place, but this is my second dinner here and the food is just mediocre. My scallops came out cold, the risotto was cold, my friend's tuna was overcooked. I'll probably only stick to the breakfast/lunch and head to Vista for dinner going forward.
Been here a few times and alway enjoyed the food. This time the food was ok, not great. Service was very very slow. Essentially they forgot us and we waited 45 minutes for our entree. Then they brought us a desert at no charge without apologizing or asking what they could do. Sounds good but I rarely eat desert so no value to me. All we would have liked was a sincere apology instead.
I have been to La Palapa no less than a dozen times in the past 15 years because it had always lived up to its reputation as a quality restaurant. On this visit, that reputation is no longer deserved. My lobster was dry and tough. It was like chewing a rubber band. The oysters, while served on a bed of ice, were warm and smelled like something dead. Twice we were served coconut shrimp and grilled octopus . We did not order either dish, either time! Both times, the server took the coconut shrimp and grilled octopus to their proper table after visiting another table first. Really? Who would eat food that had been served to other guests and then removed?
Ok serious foodie here,I've dined in most major U.S. cities. This was one of the BEST places I've eaten at, it's in the top 5 for sure! The lobster taquitos are a must,as are the scallops and of course the table side Mexican coffee. The prices were ridiculously affordable! I will return!
We spent our Christmas Day dinner at this wonderful restaurant and were very happy with the service and the beautiful setting on the beach. Food was a little salty with some of the dishes but overall very good. Service was excellent. Also a great option for us with small kids - everyone was very accommodating and the children could walk out on to the beach while waiting for the meals to arrive. Terrific place for a family night out!
I could not have been more pleased with Christmas Eve dinner at The Palapa. I reserved on the beach but my father did not want to be outside. They had no problem switching even though it was last minute. The drinks were great and they happened to have the biggest lobsters I had ever seen. They brought it out family style and we carved it like a turkey. That in itself is going to be such a great memory. The lobster was tender and delicious and seemed like there was 6 regular lobster servings. It was beautifully prepared and displayed. The restaurant was beautiful and the other reviews are correct about the location being perfect. Don’t forget to look at the history of Vallarta in the photos on the way to the bathroom.
