La Palapa Grill & Cantina
We have created a unique restaurant concept around original recipes. Beyond tacos, enchiladas and burritos... we offer a tour of authentic Mexican gastronomy; from our delicious ceviche and mouth-watering molé, to our more traditional tamales and equally delectable quesadillas.
Our bar is without a doubt the witness of fun nights under the Maryland sky, and the best host of good friends and great times.

Great food and service!!
It was our son’s birthday and he wanted carne asada with a side mole sauce. He enjoyed it. Overall we all enjoyed the food and the service.
Food was awesome and the entertainment was good.
We went for brunch and everyone enjoyed their meals!
Dinner and service were exceptional.
The food was great and Tuesday night is the best night to go there, Taco Tuesday all you can eat for $10.00...what a value and the food is delicious!
Super Yummy Food and wonderful service. We LOVE this place. You should def stop by today!
Food was delicious. Quesadillas were light and cheesy. I had the fajitas, they tasted great. A little too dark and noisy for my taste, but not enough that I won’t come back. Wait staff was attentive and professional.
Great place to bring the family or date. This experience was a slower Sunday experience. the staff was great, ambiance, and food is always fantastic. Been here several times and can’t say i’ve ever had a bad experience.
We eat out a lot, and really enjoy Mexican food. We were looking for a new place to try, and found La Palapa had good reviews. We were seated promptly - our server, Natasha, was pleasant and efficient. Our food was served fast - maybe too fast. The complimentary chips and salsa - the salsa was very flavorful. We ordered the queso dip - it unfortunately had too much beer and you really couldn't even taste the cheese. We ordered the (1) Guadalajara Burrito - which was a large size but the filling - steak and chicken inside was cold; (2) the chicken quesadilla, while warm, had little flavor - only achieved by putting some salsa on it; (3) the beef taquitos were good - after you dug them out from where they were completely covered so not visible (initially thought they brought the wrong order because it looked like a salad) by lettuce, sour cream, guac and pico de gallo. Considering the number of really good Mexican restaurants, I really can't recommend and we won't make the trip to Ellicott City for La Palapa.
We had a great dinner! They were able to accommodate my son’s peanut and tree but allergies.
Nice outing for New Years Day. Good food, drinks and service.
Really good food and good service. Excellent drinks.
Food was awesome and our server was great love the ambience overall very good experience will highly recommend to our friends
Second time at this place with my friend. We went back for a girls night and to have the Texas Chimichangas. Our server was a gem, but we were highly disappointed with the hosts and manager. Although we had a reservation and the restaurant was empty, the hosts had a hard time figuring out where to sit us - ridiculous. She sits us in a tiny two person top against the wall when there was amole space to sit us and two other couples were set on a four person top. We called the manager to address the oddity with the seating arrangement, and he seemed confused and did not think anything was odd. More so, he seemed like he did not want to be bothered by two minorities inconveniencing his evening. To add to that, my friends food had a strand of hair, and the plates on the table had a bug. Last time we were there the server kept rushing to bring our next plate and was constantly harassing us for our next order. There seems to be a trend of terrible customer service at this place. We won't be returning and will make sure to tell our family and friends.
I went with some friends for an impromptu taco Tuesday night out! Was not very busy and service was great! I recommend the spicy cucumber margarita 😋. I can't remember the servers name but she was very sweet and knowledgeable about the menu. I can't wait to go back. Carne' Asada was delicious and my friends enjoyed their tacos!
Such a wonderful space and great service for dinner with friends.
My only issues was that it was a little to dark, if we're having to pull out our phones to read the menus, it's too dark. Otherwise the Grilled Fish Tacos were fantastic and I look forward to ordering them on our next visit.
Great margaritas!
Great food and service! Nice clean restaurant with excellent staff. Would be nicer if the lights were a little brighter. Dim lighting inside makes it hard to read the menu especially as you get older
I was disappointed that the staff could not honor our seating preferences--despite the fact that we had a reservation, it was a birthday dinner, and the restaurant was half empty. Other reservations (for diners who had not yet arrived) seemed to trump ours. Nevertheless, the food was good and the service fast.
Perfect is the right word for this place.
Excellent as always!
Food was pretty good. Fish tacos could use more seasoning and less sauce. The wait and management staff were absolutely perfect! Perfect amount of attention and kindness.
The food is great, nice atmosphere and great service. Our waiter Jimmy was so helpful and attentive.
The food was fresh and excellent. Margaritas are perfect. They will sneak up on you, so be careful.
My only gripe is the hostess. They can be kind of not friendly at times and they are the first one you see when you come in to be seated. Other than that, I'd give them a 10.
Enjoy!
We enjoyed our evening at Lapas. Service was acceptable and chips/salsa & drinks came out quickly. The lamb shank was a hit as was the fajitas however some of our meals were not hot. The chicken taquito & stuff jalapeño was bland.
Service was outstanding. Food was very runny. Chicken soaking wet with no flavor. Salsa was runny. The food was just bad. The server was outstanding.
My only issue was it seemed we were being rushed a bit
Great staff and the food was excellent. Definitely recommend going for intimate or large occasions.
We've been coming here for over 12 years for the best mole on the East Coast. It is everything you need: rich, dark. with a perfectly smooth consistency and a hint of sweetness. And... it is served over the most tender chicken, sliced thinly and easy to use to pick up that delicious sauce. They have an excellent ceviche appetizer of shrimp and tilapia, served artfully with a zing and a good dose of chili. Standard Mexican fare served alongside these rarer finds. Their beef tamale appetizer is awesome comfort food. The temp in the restaurant can run a little warm or cool. For the best ambiance, ask to be seated near the fireplace. It's a bustling restaurant at peak times and even then the noise is tolerable. A valuable gem, a short trip from Baltimore.
Came here for birthday celebration, service was great , food was very good, and the margaritas were tasty!
First time there in many years. Our server was wonderful, warm and knowledgeable. The food- fajitas and special (duck with mole)-was very good and the stuffed poblanos were excellent. Timing of courses was off, entrees arrived just after appetizer. Very nice.
This was our first (but not last) visit after a pottery date. I’ve heard so many people rave about La Palapas and they did not disappoint. We sat under the covered deck, our waitress was wonderful, and our food and drinks were delicious. I would highly recommend going out of your way to eat at La Palapas. Can’t wait for our next visit in 2 weeks. 😊
Generous food portions
Always a great place to grab a beer and good food.
Glad to know we are your go to list for food and drinks! Thank you Michael.
Awesome ambience, friendly server, quick service, and delicious food! Loved our margaritas, too.
Nicole, thanks for stopping by to show us love! We hope to serve you soon!!!
Food was ok. But the service was terrible. The hostess sat us right in front of the kitchen door even after making a reservation ahead of time. When asked to move, she moved us the the table next to it, the table was wobbly and completely ruined our experience. When it was time to order drinks, I asked several times if they can make a mojito without sugar, and that I have diet restrictions. Inspire of all the reassurances, I still got a drink with sugar. Even though it was repalaced, I still ended up sipping a sugary drink to find out.
Thank you for taking the time to let us know about your visit. We are very sorry to hear we did not provide you with a great experience. Were you able to talk to the manager on duty that evening? We will look into this immediately and make the changes needed. I hope you will give us another opportunity and join us in the near future.
Great Valentines dinner! Always great food and great service!
Thank you for sharing your special night with us. Glad you had a great time. Hope to see you back soon!
We were treated wonderfully! My friend and I only get together 2-3 times a year and we have so much to catch up on that we were there longer than the average diner. The waitress was very pleasant and understood, being attentive but not pushy! Overall a very good experience.
Restaurant was much better before it was closed and then reopened. Food has declined in quality. I had enjoyed the food at La Palapa Grill & Cantina in the past.
Hi Nia, Sorry to hear your recent experience was not how you remembered us. I can assure you that we are using the finest ingredients and strive for perfection. Were you able to speak to manager on this visit. We apologize if we dropped the ball and hope you will come back and give another opportunity.
Bad weather the day I went, so it was pretty quiet but I'd certainly go back.
Thanks for stoping by despite the weather. Sorry we didn't impress you on this visit. We know we can do a much better job and are you happy you will be back to give us another try.
