Great food, good wine, attentive service, inviting ambiance. Excellent value. What could be better?!
I have a new favorite restaurant. I've visited twice; first with friends who had discovered it earlier, then as a special night out with family. It was almost perfect except for the high noise level, but that won't stop me from going back!
We arrived to our reservation at 9:30pm and ordered the cheese plates and two drinks. The cheese plate had about 3 tiny pieces of cheese and a small side of jam. It was extremely small for the price. I would definitely not recommend. The table next to use knew the chef and ordered the same item but received much more on their plate. We then ordered the mussels which were a very large portion on the plus side but we didn’t received them for an hour and a half. There were barely any customers so I am unsure what took so long but In the end it Was an $80 bill for 4 drinks, one appetizer and one dish. And it took almost 2 hours to received almost all our dishes.
On a good note, our waiter and servers were very polite and attentive. They were great.
I would not recommend this restaurant and do not plan to go back and that is just by my own experience.
We had a fun and tasty time with two moms and three adventurous-eating kids. Everything was delicious and service was prompt.
Great food. Great cocktails
It was perfect. Quality of food superb- the only strangeness was that two senior citizens were making out for an hour at the bar behind us and it was distasteful while seated within 6 feet of them. Wish maybe the bartender cut them off as they were clearly drunk and needed to move along.
Food was fantastic and the service was great. My wife and I both had the mussels (of course) and they were far and away the best I have ever had. Mussels had a soft and silky texture with a killer broth. The little baguette that came with had a nice contrasting crunch and sopped up the juice well. They did manage to send us the wrong side (the bok choy instead of the sprouts) but they quickly remedied that and gave us the bok choy. No one is perfect but the made it right quickly and we were happy because the bok choy was just as good as the amazing burssles sprouts. I highly recommend.
Amazing food, not pretentious. Not a huge menu, great quality, delicious food, nice selection of wines by the glass. I ordered the muscles, and approximately 2 dozen of perfectly steamed muscles arrived in a bowl of broth of wine, butter and herbs. Each was the size of half-scoop of ice cream. Accompanied by a wedge of artisan-baked baguette. Likely the best muscles I’ve ever eaten. The waitstaff are all about hospitality and genuinely cared about my experience. Awesome!
Great service, sweet touches. The cheeses were legit, frites well seasoned, and overall a great experience!
The service was exceptionally good as was the food! Was visiting my daughter in the Portland area and this was her suggestion! I will definitely return! Just fabulous!
Usually love La Moule, but sitting near the door was freezing cold and made the entire dinner less enjoyable. Also, our waitress didn't allow us to order starters before we ordered our main courses. It all had to be at the same time. That felt unnecessarily draconian and unaccommodating. Also, the muscles were way smaller than usual.
Best mussels I've had in my life, accompanied by killer cocktails and delicious appetizers. Could not have been more impressed.
The Cajun Benedict was possibly the best breakfast/brunch dish I’ve ever eaten. Great coffee, great cocktails. This place is a gem!
The steak frites was excellent! We will be coming back!
Food: generally too salty.
Noise level: unpleasant.
Though the service was good and the staff friendly, we will not be returning.
Loved the mussels. The fries were good but a little to salty.
They were having a bad night from a service point of view but the food was excellent
THE FOOD IS ALL DELICIOUS. WE ORDERED THE PORK SHANK CONFIT AND THE STEAK FRITES. MY ONLY COMPLAINT IS THAT THE PORK SHANK TOOK 50 MINUTES TO ARRIVE AT THE TABLE ( THE MENU TELLS YOU IT TAKES 30 MINUTES) AND WHEN IT ARRIVED MY STEAK WAS ROOM TEMPERATURE, MEANING THAT IT HAD PROBABLY FINISHED COOKING 40 MINUTES BEFORE. OUR SERVER TOOK IT BACK AND RETURNED ABOUT 10 MINUTES LATER WITH A FRESHLY COOKED ONE. IT'S JUST A KITCHEN TIMING THING. BUT IT DISTRACTED FROM AN OTHERWISE VERY ENJOYABLE MEAL.
THE SERVERS ARE ALL VERY KNOWLEDGABLE AND EVERYTHING ELSE WAS VERY TIMELY. EXCELLENT WINES BY THE GLASS.
This was a mixed experience. The hostess was very friendly and we arrived at our table with a nice glass of champagne courtesy of La Moule to toast our anniversary. A lovely touch! Nice selection of cocktails and preparations of mussels. We enjoyed the liver mousse and Gainsbourg martini to start. Our main dish, moules mariniere were agreeable but the fries were very oversalted and it was a big disappointment. I got the feeling that our server wasn't super friendly so I didn't return the fries to be redone, but I would have liked to. I asked for butter for my bread and did receive it but was told something to the effect that there's butter/cream in the broth, etc. It wasn't clear to me if that was a friendly suggestion to dip it in the sauce or an admonishment.
Overall, a nice place. Nice setting, although a bit dark. Good service. Good location. Tasty mussels, even on a Monday night. Enjoyed halibut but Steak a la Diane was over salted. Nice wine list.
Great Belgian dishes (moules frites and steak frites) and cocktails in a relaxed, neigborhood space.
Good as always. One of our Portland favorites. Always good food and outstanding service. Their mussels are cooked to perfection and their broths are to die for. Will continue to recommend and return.
Cute & cozy French-ish bistro in SE Portland. Fun ambiance, reasonably priced, good food!
My wife and I were very pleased with our visit. The service was excellent and the food was even better. We will return with friends.
Very good service. Excellent mussels! And since we like Vermentino wine, it was a pleasant discovery to learn that it is their House White.
Best bartender and delicious happy hour specials ever
Lovely food and service. Laid back atmosphere with a quaint small bar where diners can eat as well as drink. Highly recommend steak frites.
Yummy food and worth the price; the mussels are amazing.
A really tough call. I sent my wife and two friends. They adored the food." Superb"
They hated the noise, found it impossible to talk without literally yelling at each other.
They were going to order dessert and cocktails but decided they couldn't cope with the noise.
Apparently the walls are flat, reflective, and bounce noise back like crazy.
Have you never heard of absorbent/reflective wall/ceiling work? Art comes to mind. Cloth.
LaMoule never disappoints me. It is one of my very favorite restaurants in Portland. The food is to such a high level I am always blown away. I’ve never had mussels of this caliber. They are my go to place whenever anyone is visiting to show off the high end Portland cuisine.
As always, super consistent with great service in a cool, trendy spot.
All around fantastic
This is one of our favorite places to go for a casual date night - this evening we sat at the kitchen bar and got to have a great conversation with the owner of the restaurant. Food was amazing and we had fun conversation as well!
Best Mussels in town and steak frites were the bomb. top it off with lovely wine and it was a winner of an evening!
Love this place!!! First time there. Food was outstanding!!!!! Mussels were the best we ever had!!!
Unfortunately there was a misunderstanding and we were served all of our food at the same time.Felt very rushed! The situation was handled well and next time we will know to signify our wishes.
Fantastic, again. We tried several new menu items and were rewarded with new, outstanding flavors.
C'est tres bon!
The mussels are where it's at at this place, without a doubt! Anything with a sauce was great and had really interesting complex flavor profiles. That summer squash and crab salad - wow! The dishes without sauce were good, but not amazing like the ones with sauce. They could use a little bit better service - we waited a long time to get a drink refill. They could also use some help with the decor; not sure what all the noirish movie posters are about, and a bunch of decor looks like they ran out of energy to put thought into it, so it's a hodge podge of items from a thrift store or someone's basement that have nothing to do with the theme of the restaurant.
Great wine, beer and spirit selection (who else offers traditional absinthe service with 4 to choose from?)
The menu is short, but delicious and very well executed. Fantastic and unique flavor combinations. We had the bread, oysters, the squash and crab, the halibut, the basil spaetzle, and a side of lingerie beans, as well as the lime tart. Every single dish was spot on. Cannot wait to turn some friends on to this gem. Thanks for the great experience!!!
