Not too impress with the mussels in the "saffron" broth, need to cut back the lemon. The baggett could be thinner and quick toasted to add a charred test. Expensive French fries. Lamb shank was bland so the sauce pulled weight of the dish. Burger was ok, nothing fancy, the Ram have much better burger.
We had the most wonderful time at La Moule celebrating my partner's birthday! Exceptional service, we couldn't have asked for better. Our server and her team did an excellent job putting together a prix fixe meal for us and our friends, including wine and beer pairings. We left raving about the food, and are still talking about how great it was days later. Thank you so much!
It was great, excellent food
Service was inconsistent; some forgetfulness and disappearance. Menu is unique and focuses on doing a few things well. Mussels were excellent. Ambiance was dark; attractive wallpaper.
Fabulous, fun cocktails and excellent mussels. Would go back anytime!
My husband reports the lamb was the best he’d ever had! My muscles were outstanding and every detail, from the butter and garlic to the drinks (PS I love that they partner with charity-conscious brands) were fantastic. We feel lucky to have discovered this gem and we look forward to returning soon.
The mussels (signature dish) were excellent! We look forward to our next trip back to La Moule!
We first had some yummy baguette outside, and then we had dinner inside. I love this place.
I’ve been a bit disappointed about the meat, because the meat was from another farm than usual but except this, everything is so nice there.
Love the mussels! Paired with a lovely crusty bread. Mmmm
Wonderful food, however server was very unfriendly.
Soooo good :)
This place was amazing! We had the Smoked Lamb Shank, the Marinière & Puttanesca Moules, and the Flat Iron Steak Frites--All were flavorful and herbal. My favorite was the Smoked Lamb, followed by the Marinière Moule. The staff was friendly, inviting, and fast. I loved the establishment's wall decor. I will definitely return here the next time I visit Portland.
The food was delicious but the service was awful. The waiter was unpleasant and indifferent to us. I received the wrong order and the waiter denied it then never came back to the table. It soured us as to never coming back.
Great neighborhood place for oysters, mussels, and ever changing menus items
Had a great dinner!
The Korean Moule bowl was fantastic. We will be back.
Very disappointing. We all agreed that most of the dishes were both underseasoned and over-salted. The bread, from Ken's, served with cultured butter and garlic confit was good. The best dish was the chicken liver mousse, creamy and well seasoned. Not so the artichoke appetizer which was prepared in a manner where the ingredients were indistinguishable and had little discernable flavor. This proved true for the main course of spaetzle, which I was served. I couldn't tell which were the spaetzle and which were the other ingredients. The entire dish was topped with what I believe was a cheese mixture - I stirred it in and it made the dish more muddled than before.. A side dish described as fiddle heads came to the table and had so many potatoes we thought perhaps the kitchen had made a mistake. They had not. Again.... We couldn't see any fiddle heads. My husband's steak was too salty. We were served an extra order of fries.... Too salty! The service, at first welcoming, vanished in follow-up - my brother ordered a beer which never appeared. He remarked that the mussels in saffron broth were fresh but he was left with a big bowl of broth after finishing the mussels-seemed strange. Overall a big disappointment.
Wow! Loved the moule and frites. The butter lettuce salad was delicious as well as the marinated artichokes. Casual and relaxing ambiance.
This was our second visit with a very different experience. They are great at shellfish but a dissapointment on everything else. The burger especially at $16, I left 3/4 of it on the plate. The service was inattentive, they could have easily have sold another round of drinks, my beer sat empty for more than 20 minutes & I was never offered a second. Anytime we needed something we had to flag our server down. Probably won't return.
Excellent service. Our food came out hot and the cocktails were delicious. We will definitely be returning.
Not the best meal we have had here. The steak was not tender. Overall, we will come back and hopr for better.
This was our first time going to La Moule and we really enjoyed all of the food (oysters on half shell, mussels, pate and butter lettuce salad) it was just fabulous and not super heavy but we were very satisfied as well. We'll be bringing our friends here soon! Thanks for a great experience!
Music was painful but, they turned it down so it was good.
Great Moules......steak and frites was excellent........service was great. Good value for money!
It does get a bit loud in there on a Friday night, as I get older it’s hard to hear your table mates sometimes. Still great drinks, awesome food excellent service.
Best moule et fritte!!!
We enjoy the ambiance at La Moule and the ability to make a reservation and get in on short notice. Our server was very good. She did her best to accommodate the person in our party with food sensitivities. One salad was served, then a very long wait to any of the other food (including another salad of the exact same type). Wasn't crazy about the "herby" butter lettuce salad. Everyone else seemed to enjoy the mussels, steak and lamb dishes they ordered. Lively atmosphere.
Excellent food in a lovely casual (if a bit noisy) setting.
Each time we go there---it's like the staff has an abrupt, impersonal demeanor…this includes the server to the chef... they are not engaging or welcoming. It's like their interaction with you is a duty.
Our food was good. A request for another menu item was never fulfilled …but it wasn't on our bill, so we ate what was delivered and left. Wine was bad---tasted like it started to ferment and had a bad smell when she dropped it off.
Though it was a kind gesture, the waiter brought 2 glasses of cheap champagne without asking if we drank? After getting out meal, I tried to get someone’s attention to ask for something to no avail. We just had the main course and asked for the check.
I had been to other restaurants during the March prefix special and others have at least two choices. This was one choice which are not appealing and almost everybody there was getting that particular thing. It would’ve been nice if we had a choice. C’est la vie
The restaurant was very loud with very little space between tables. We literally had to yell. Everything is extra with an entree - even vegetables. No bread, no salad, no veggies. The steak comes only with fries for $28.00. The steak was good and the server was nice. We felt it was overpriced, slow, loud and with decent food.
Nice neighborhood restaurant in SE Portland with plenty of off street parking. The prix fixe menu during Portland Dining Month is actually a good deal. The mussels were delicious, but the dulce de lèche dessert was underwhelming. Nice atmosphere and friendly service. A little noisy, so not really suitable for a date night unless you opt for a no-later than 6:30pm reservation.
The name of this restaurant set the mood and of course I ordered mussels. The were delicious and perfectly cooked. We ordered the 'frites' to go with them and they were perfect as well. We had a lovely evening and will return.
Interesting, delicious, and different preparations. We started by sharing one of the Mussel dishes that was served with French Fries that are better than McDonald's. Each Mussel, still connected in the shell, had a thin spread of some tasty cheese concoction on its surface. The Spaetzel I had was delicious and you can't find it in many places. My friends steak was indeed "rare," the way he ordered it. Most places, even steak houses, have tried to slip us a medium rare.
Excellent service. Called the manager over at the end of our meal to compliment the server.
One complaint is that like so many other otherwise wonderful restauruants, it was noisy. I have been in several restaurants that were worse in the last six months, as I eat out once a week. Still, I wish they all would put some soundproofing on their charming brick walls.
Regardless of the noise, though, I do Highly recommend.
I have had better experiences at this restaurant, but we were there for close to 2 hours waiting for our orders this time. It felt like staff was overwhelmed. Dessert was far from my expectations and Taboulle salad was far too spicy. I loved this restaurant in the past. It was not a great experience to celebrate my family member’s milestone. I am not happy but I won’t give up on them.
We took advantage of Portland Dining Month to try La Moule. My husband was able to eat the featured entree but because the dish had soy in it,I was not able to indulge as I have a soy allergy. In fact, MANY of the dishes had soy.....this was quite disappointing to me. I did enjoy the steak/frites very much.
The front desk help was not clear on guests who had arrived first and we were overlooked in being helped.....despite that we had a reservation. It seems that a better system and/or communication with guests upon arrival is needed. In the restaurant's defense, they were very busy and seemed a bit short staffed. All in all, we enjoyed our time and these minor glitches won't keep us from returning.
This place is so cute!! We went for an impromptu upon landing in PDX brunch, and it was awesome! Super friendly and great service, YUMMY food, and a great vibe. We weren’t rushed and were able to enjoy a nice Sunday brunch. Highly recommend and hope to go back for dinner the next time I’m in Portland!
We took a friend to La Moule for Portland Dining Month and had a delicious meal. The atmosphere was warm and inviting. Our servers were attentive and responsive. I'd highly recommend this restaurant and will definitely return.
Great food. Loved it.
Wonderful meal, and if you have not tried mussels, or had poorly prepared ones, you should give theirs a try. If you go, ask for Beth as your server. She is very charming and can make good recommendations from the menu. Great neighborhood vibe as well.
