Great food, great service. Can’t wait to go back!
They crammed everyone in the back of the restaurant. The noise level was loud. The waiter messed up our order. Ordered 3 fajitas only brought one. Brought corn tortillas instead of flour. Your chicken fajitas had no char & no flavor. Your tortillas are store bought & not freshly made. There was water all over the table & the waiter did not clean it up. I wont be back!
Not a lot of menu choices outside of tacos. The pozole is very good. If you are wary of COVID 19 dont go there on a Sat night they were at 100% capacity.
Not following social distance guide lines. Tables were not 6 feet apart. Staff did wear masks.
Great service. Delicious food. A bit loud for conversation. Our second time in a week. It will be a regular stop for us.
Ordered soup which came out lukewarm the first time, and barely warmer the second. So the food was not up to the norm. However, the manager found out about our situation, came over and apologised, plus he provided some compensation for the next time we visit.
Wonderful food and service! Highly recommend
Thank you so much for the Awesome Review!
Most flavorless bland Mexican food I have ever had anywhere
Hi, So sorry we did not meet your expectations. Did you ask for a manager?
This place is amazing. Good food. Good drink. Good friends
50th bday - terrible service!!
Great servers, bartenders were the nicest people.
Thank you for the great review.
The waiter was great. So was everything else until we put an order in for dessert, and waited almost 30 minutes to receive it. By the time it finally came, we just wanted to go home. Plus the cookie dessert itself was just a nasty pile of mush.
I wish I could give better score because the food was outstanding! But the service was honestly the worst. Waiters all seemed to be new and no one knew what was happening. No silverware for 20 min after food served. Drinks ordered and food came out first. Dessert was told they were out then when we changed choice they found it, but once again forgot silverware. I hope they can get their staff up to speed soon!
Was excited to try everything as it was called out as "upscale" but I can't say that it met expectations. I had to send back the margarita that I ordered (after waiting 20 minutes for drinks after being seated) as it was ALL MIX. Way too sour. My wife kept hers hoping the ice would mellow out the flavors but she was very certain afterwards that they sold us drinks with NO alcohol in them.
We order the Steak Tacos and the Ahi Tuna Tacos. The Steak Tacos (Carne) were great. The Ahi was overcooked / unseasoned and left a very bad taste in our mouth ALL Night Long. (like it was old / bad fish).
My recommendations to La Mesa...have more than 1 bartender on a Saturday night and train them how to make margaritas. Also...PLEASE take the AHI Tuna Tacos OFF the Menu!
Hi Carl, Did you ask for a Manager?
too crowded and not social distancing poor service but not servers fault
Went to La Mesa last minute and what a pleasant surprise. My wife and I went for an early dinner. Best tacos I have had in ages. The guacamole fresh and delicious and the chips? Goodness gracious! Fresh!!!!!
We will be back to try the rest of the taco menu. Soon
Don’t pass this gem up
We loved our food & waitress, but the music was too loud. It was really distracting & made it difficult to hear my friends. However, I would go again because the steak tacos were terrific!!
Appetizer was too salty. They were out of the first appetizer we tried to order, said they haven't had all necessary ingredients for a couple months. Ask for an additional napkin, never got it. Ask for Corn tortillas with one of the dinners, never got them. All of our food items were just ok in taste.
Came for the Taco Tuesday special
Loved the ambience, service and food. It felt like a downtown Chicago restaurant! Loved it
Wrong food delivered to the table twice. Servers not wearing gloves. No following of the CDC guidelines for social distance or occupancy. Our bill was wrong and no apology from the servers. Food was either bland or over seasoned. Had high hopes but was disappointed and we won’t go back.
Drink are amazing!! If you like peach get the bellarita. I’ve been dreaming of it since!! Guac, queso and all our tacos were fresh and delicious.
Excellent food and service
The service was really bad. We had to hunt down for our server. He also gave us an attitude when asking for certain request. The service is bad but the food was good. To top it off they added an automatic 20% tip to our bill. Which I think is a bad thing to do. This server didn’t deserve 20% tip when he didn’t even want to take care of us. The bean dip was really good. Way better than just chips & salsa.
Food was delicious. Server was very kind. Tables were socially distanced. Every thing was very clean.
Love this place and the food!
Amazing food! Our new favorite date night spot for sure. Kim the owner is also a gem! What a great spot.
Going out on Valentine's Day you always want a perfect evening. Our waitress was Jessica and the service was great. The restaurant itself is beautifully decorated with lots of glass overlooking downtown St Charles and the Fox. The food was great and the menu offered many selections It could had been slightly warmer but but the outside temp was near zero. The owner Kimberly personally thanked us and made sure we were all happy. Looking forward to our next visit to La Mesa Modern Mexican...
Todo muy agradable y limpio. La comida deliciosa , sin duda es un lugar al que podría regresar.
This was our first time there and we enjoyed the vibe, food and service. Although it was a bit chilly inside. My wife ate with her winter coat on throughout the meal.
Valentine’s Day this year and it was okay. Not much to choose for an special occasion in terms of food. Drinks were great.
La Mesa is really coming into its own. Let me start with the stand outs - the service was excellent, attentive and welcoming. The pineapple guacamole is fantastic - grilled pineapple and pumpkin seeds make it really delightfully sweet and crunchy. Tacos were great; fajitas were great; habanero salsa was flavorful with plenty of heat. My husband had the tres leches cake for dessert. It was delicious, but the portion size is a little modest.
The restaurant is beautiful and feels spacious. The only criticism is that they need to do something about the winter winds bellowing through that front door every time a guest comes in.
La Mesa has come a long way since it opened. We really enjoyed our experience there and will be back again.
Always great food and awesome habanero cucumber margaritas.
Previous experiences with party of 2 or 4 were great; this night, not good. Our party of 5 were cramped into a four top while a 5 top was open and denied (first because it was in a section where a "new server" was located, then denied a second time because it was "reserved" (we had reservations btw)). Service was very poor (girl never smiled, sour attitude, never removed empty plates/glasses, late to table for orders/reorders, etc.). Restaurant was EXTREMELY cold. Getting drinks were a hassle (drinks took a very long time to get to the table (bar appeared short-staffed) and one of our party, after ordering a gin martini dirty, was told the bar doesn't have olives or gin(?)). Night was topped of by staff, without asking, applying Amazon points of one party to both party's bills, with the opposite party getting a larger $$ reduction than the Amazon cardholder himself. Too bad, because the whole reason we brought people with us this time was because we raved about our prior experiences, but ended up being embarrassed instead.
Everything was...fine. Things just seemed a little sloppy, and the service was subpar. There was confusion during the check-in process, which led to confusion about who was actually supposed to be waiting on us. Our table was dirty, and we were seated without silverware, napkins, etc.
Again, everything was just kinda sloppy. There were cobwebs hanging from the bathroom fixtures and my glass was chipped. The food was okay - it was in desperate need of salt. But, I get it. It's Mexican food in the middle of Illinois - I went in with tempered expectations. However, I think if the service hadn't been so lacking and the place had just been a bit cleaner, I would have given it a higher score.
Nice place with good food and service. Good for a casual night out
This was our first time at this place and we will definitely go back! Food was excellent and portions were plentiful.
Tinga tacos and barbacoa tacos were delicious.
Masa guacamole was also very good. I love the light airy tortilla chips.
Tacos were very good
The rice was so bland, please season next time.
We actually had reservations elsewhere and that locations heater broke down. We reached out to this local gem and they accommodated us easily. It was a great experience and the food was delicious. Will definitely come again.
