We had a wonderful dinner at La Mar. The atmosphere was great, the food was amazing, and we had the best server. Everything was perfect!
This is a fun experience, truly delicious food, spectacular views of Bay Bridge light show.
This restaurant always delivers! Great food and great atmosphere even on a rainy, stormy night!
Great fresh seafood, solid ceviche and great mariscos dish
The food was decent and the cebiche was good. My friend and I love Peru and Peruvian food. I would return for cebiche but not the lomo saltado which was woefully overcooked leaving the beef hard. (It's sad when animal meats are overcooked like that.) Both of us had mediocre entrees. Next time I would go only drinks and appetizers.
The restaurant was not at full capacity so it was surprising to experience a lack of service. Our server wasn't friendly ever and only took orders. The floor manager had assured me that should it rain, they would reseat or bring out covers -- when it started raining, there were numerous wait staff nearby and no one did anything while we and others pulled out umbrellas and tried to be respectful while getting rained on. Also we said Thank You to the two at the front desk upon leaving and they didn't even look up. Location is great, wine is good, food and service are fair.
Came in for Restaurant Week, and the experience was fantastic! The food was absolutely amazing. We felt like we got to try a little bit of everything. We unanimously agreed this place is awesome and have to come back again!
Had the Restaurant Week menu. A great way to enjoy most of the menu with small tastes of everything. Really enjoyed the many appetizer bites; main course was enjoyable, too. Dessert was very nice. Service was impeccable. Wine list overly pricey.
Thank you La Mar for a great experience.
Always a fantastic experience at La Mar. Excellent food with true Peruvian flavor and great service. Every time we visit SF we come to La Mar.
First time here and I was impressed! I ordered the classic ceviche, grilled octopus, quinoa chaufa and Arroz con Mariscos. Everything was delicious. The flavors were on point. Paired the dishes with Queirolo white wine. For dessert we ordered the choco-maracuya and it was beyond delicious. The waitress was GREAT!
Delicious restaurant week options of their best menu items
We had the restaurant week tasting menu and everything was delicious.
Service was slow to start but the food made up for it. Unfortunately, the lomo saltado was slightly overcooked.
Restaurant week was rushed. Servers were great but the busboys were anxious to clear the tables before one could finish and even threw away our packaged left overs without setting it aside. It is a nice meal but the staffing was confused
The perfect restaurant with outstanding service to host a client dinner!
Too bad that the first course of ceviche was excellent but the main was very poor, my dish was supposed to contain today’s fish, calamari. Shrimp and so on but I had two tiny bay shrimps and two dime size calamari pieces, there were no fish pieces.
Fantastic food and even better service. The staff at La Mar were lovely and took care of us during our whole dinner. 10/10 would come back again.
A great Peruvian restaurant with a good view.
I appreciated the introduction to Peruvian cuisine and the sauces were quite favorable and complex. We had lunch menu for restaurant week and the portions were generous. The beef dish was rustic in composition- what with potatoes, tomatoes, hominy and red onions, but it worked, especially the soy and oyster sauce that melded the taste - although I could use less salt as a personal preference. Overall, yum!
Our friends were telling us about this place they snuck in to with great decor. They told us that they were asked to leave as they weren’t open and just feeding their employees breakfast. We told
Them that it was great they like it because we had reservations later! After the Hornblower cruise we came in for a few drinks. We had dinner later which was amazing! I recommend anyone who love’s flavorful food to come here
The table server was lovely. But it was a cold evening and the temperature in the main dining room was very unpleasant. Food was good but it got cold quite quickly. It was not what we hope to experience. The maitre ‘d took a long time showing us the table. Not impressed with that kind of “slow” service.
This was some of the most delicious food we have ever had. The service and ambience were also great. Highly recommend it for a special occassion.
We love this inventive menu featuring small plates, fresh seafood, bold flavors. The location is ideal; just a block from the Ferry Building, on the water (try to get a table outdoors). We shared a sampler, 2 tapas and the fish of the day. I had my favorite cocktail, Pisco Sour. We topped it off with a scrumptious dessert, choco maracuya, with chocolate underneath a light passion fruit mouse.
Muy buena comida y experiencia
Did not have outdoor dining despite specific request during online reservation.
Server was friendly, helpful and engaging. Food was delicious and presentation was beautiful.
We stopped by La Mar for lunch on Sunday. We ordered our usual Pisco Sours and a plate of Nikkei tiradito to start--both were perfect. There was a special restaurant week menu so we decided to take advantage of the great prices on it. We ordered the Ceviche Classico and the Lomo Saltado. Both courses were delicious. My husband finished his meal with Tres Leches cake. I was too full to eat another bite.
Food wise La Mar is between 4 and 5 stars, but it did exceed my expectations, because I find most restaurants along the waterfront have better views, ambience or food presentation than how the food tastes. La Mar's kitchen staff got culinary chops; they are for real. The ceviche (I believe the fish was halibut) was very good, and the portion was quite generous. Taro chips were a nice, healthy choice. The beef tenderloin was perfectly cooked with a nice aroma. It came with a scoop of white rice and a heap of country fries - too carb-heavy for me. The restaurant was busy, but service was brisk yet attentive. The regular menu items were on the expensive side but the SF Restaurant Week prix fixed menu was good value.
Visited for restaurant week. The food was amazing but portions were small. Quality of the seafood is exceptional.
I always enjoy dining here. You can never go wrong with anything you order. The service was excellent as always. I love that i never feel rushed, I’m not being asked if I’m done with my dish every few minutes. My friend and I needed a relaxing day out and we truly had it here.
We had lunch there during Dine about Town in SF. $25 for a 2 course lunch. Ceviche was delish and fresh and so was the Arroz con Mariscos. We had the table at the end close to the water with our dog . It was a perfect lunch spot on a beautiful day. The service was also outstanding. Will have to come back to try the other dishes.
Great social atmosphere. Arrived as their latest reservation so the service to start was a little off, but as the night progressed the service improved greatly. The food was phenomenal. The lomo was to die for. Will be back!
It was fine. The cebiche was the best thing we tried. Otherwise, it was just OK. Nothing special -- felt like a factory.
It was great!
Food, service and ambiance were terrific. Prices can be steep but the quality of the ingredients and the service make up for it. With the restaurant week menu, it is almost mandatory to head to La Mar.
Amazing and delicious food. Really enjoy the experience.
Nice experience and good food and service. Would recommend.
My second time dining here. The first time we went as a couple and I loved it so much wanted to go back on my own for a nice dinner by myself. Made a booking online, and from the four options they offer (bar, high top, indoor, outdoor) I reserved a high top, so I can sit at one of the tables in the bar area. The hostess looked at me and told the waitress "seat her at the bar" and before I could say anything they seated me at the bar. First red flag. The bar was quite empty at this time, with no bartender standing there, just employees coming and going as needed. The high tops are also empty except one so they could definitely have had me seated at one. Then I looked at the menus they gave me, only the wine menu with days specials, no regular menu. A while later a bartender came, I asked him for the menu and he helped. I ordered a couple things, waited a bit, then the food arrived. I don't have any cutlery or a plate at this point, and there isn't even a waitress assigned so I am looking around, then the bartender asked someone and they brought it... Overall I am very disappointed because I wanted to enjoy a nice dinner with myself, and this is the treatment I get. I invite all restaurants to be a bit more respectful to the people that are dining alone, which is an issue in overall US, never had this type of treatment in Europe when I ate alone.
Best food I have had in years
The food here is so interesting and the flavors are so amazing. Fun place to go to. Let the waiter guide you.
The woman at the front desk was rude.
