La Mar is a stunning, historic setting to host an event with an added Peruvian flare. Inspired by the thousands of Cebicherías found throughout Peru, La Mar Cebichería Peruana was created to globalize and preserve one of the best guarded treasures of Peruvian cuisine: Cebiche.View Private Dining Details
Disappointed. Service is really poor, too long, check was overcharged,... Would have never thought I write such a comment one day.
Friends visiting from outside CA
Was a great experience. Tasting menu was great and the servers were very attentive. It was a bit loud but a great place to eat.
Far too noisy on the patio for serious conversations
As usual La Mar did not disappoint! The empanadas were a hit and the ceviche outstanding. Thanks for being right on the water too..
Beautiful setting. Interesting food. Wonderful service. Went because someone gave us a gift card and would definitely go back.
Very thoughtful server replaced our Pisco Sours after deeming them not quite up to standard.
Love the food. Never disappoint. Place can be a bit loud.
Beautiful location, delicious food, very courteous staff. They made our anniversary evening even more special with their personal touch.
Enjoyed the entire experience! We were sat at a great table but after a few moments a better table opened up & the floor manager offered to move us to an even better spot! The food was wonderful & the staff very attentive!
I've been to La Mar at least a dozen times and it never fails me or the friends and family I've brought. It was my birthday last week, and I went twice with different people each time and I still enjoyed the food! Nothing bad to say at all - great service, tasty food, and killer cocktails.
My favorite restaurant in SF! Ceviche are outstanding, as are the meat dishes. Great selection of red wines. Dependable stellar soundtrack of salsa music livens things up. Service always tops.
Great food and best customer service.
We were celebrating my wife’s birthday at La Mar. the vegetarian options are good but limited. The empanadas were the highlight of the dinner and we got both the vegetarian options (corn and mushroom). The ceviche appetizer was good as well. The causa was disappointing and the dressing on it was too strong for our palette. The entree was a quinoa based hot bowl with arugula, broccoli, and few other fresh veggies. Wished there was some dressing/sauce to go with it. It was unique but a bit bland.
The cocktail I tried was very good and they overall seemed extremely creative.
We sat in the outside dining next to the blinds. The view before sunset was wonderful. The table next to us though was a group of six techies who were extremely loud. Overall a good experience. Would definitely return if there a more vegetarian options!
John was amazing and a great wealth of knowledge. Highly recommend.
I’ve been to La Mar several times before and this was are worst experience. It felt like during the entire meal they were rushing us. Over 7 different people (servers, managers, waiters, etc) would constantly check to see if we were done or needed something else, which is usually okay but every 2 mins was excessive. Constantly interrupting conversations and special moments. They did give us free birthday desert, so it wasn’t all bad.
*There new menus are very difficult to read with dim lighting.
The food was excellent and the service impeccable. Great bay views and relaxed atmosphere.
The fish did not seem to be the freshest and we were out on the back patio where the heaters could not keep up with the chill. The noise was so loud talking was not an option. Will probably not return!
They forget one dish. Slow service
The food was delicious. Server was attentive, and had some good recommendations. This was the first day they had Sunday Brunch, and had a live guitarist which set the mood right. I highly recommend this place for brunch, lunch, or dinner.
This was an amazing experience. Their quality of dishes were very delicious. Everything from their appetizers to their wines were excellent. We wish we tasted their desserts.
Great service. Food came out really quick. Everything we ordered was great except for the beef skewers which were chewy. Cebiche was great and similar to the orders we had in Lima. Arroz Norteno was delicious however hard to justify $45 for a small 8” pan. Overall, the experience was great and the price of the food and drinks covers the location and ambiance of the restaurant.
I have been to La Mar several times along the years. I'd rate my last experience a 4 out of 5 stars due to the ceviche. It was not seasoned properly. I am Peruvian, and I'd may add my favorite dish everywhere is ceviche. Here, I'd say it was a solid 3 out of 5 stars this time around.
Service was decent. It was a cold day. The patio heater were on and off at times. With the heater on it would have been perfect.
Celebrated a friend’s birthday! Always a blast. Definitely a bit overpriced but also worth it. I continue to come back. I <3 La Mar.
I made a reservation on OpenTable an hour and a half before for an anniversary dinner. Service was excellent - we were given complimentary flutes of champagne and dessert for our anniversary. Totally unexpected and so wonderful, especially given the fact that we made plans on such short notice. The food was excellent and the menu was definitely very seafood heavy, but still had a few other beef/pork options!
Not as good as previous visit. The grilled vegetable appetizer was superb: spicy, interesting, veggies still crisp, ample. But the new "simplified menu" offered fewer choices; the appetizers on a base of potato and beans were gloppy and uninteresting (we had the crab); the grilled whole black bass was very good, but very expensive; and the salmon and shrimp main course unexciting. The restaurant is still pretty, with a gorgeous view. But service seemed to rush our meal, and then when it was time for coffee, we couldn't find our waiter. For a place this expensive, both the food and the service should be better.
I ask for a table with view, call them to make sure of that... they told me that I was going to get the table with view. Did not got it.
The bathroom by the lobby/entrance was so dirty, papers everywhere, toilet not flushing. They must invest on this ASAP
The ceviche tasting was delicious and a fun way to not have to pick just one option. I loved the plantain chips and salsa - a fun take on chips and salsa. Arroz Del Mar was wonderful and the beef empanadas too. The tres leches was the perfect ending!
Food was amazing
Delicious meal, and the waiter was very knowledgeable about the menu. Pisco sours, YUM! It is an open space, and loud, but not ear piercing. Fun to watch the kitchen at work!
Great meal, beautiful restaurant, unique flavors and service is always top notch. Unfortunately one of the ceviches was filled with lots of rubbery calamari that was so tough to chew we actually couldn’t eat it. However the empanadas, salmon and drinks were all amazing. Will be back but never eating the mixto ceviche again.
Pisco sour not as good as other Peruvian restaurants
My first visit and particularly enjoyed the various ceviches offered. I will plan on going back and hopefully sit in the main room, as the tented area noise level was deafening.
My food was so spicy that I could not finish it. The rest was ok
Service was horrible! Our waiter rarely came to check on us & we had to wave him down to get his attention several times. Our glasses never stayed full which in my opinion is a sign of a not great waiter. The food was tasty & tasted fresh but it was a bit over priced I think due to the location on the water. As we were enjoying our meal they came over multiple times to take our plates & we were just talking with food still on our plates!
Flavours are great, they have authentic food, place has a nice view and good interior design. More vegan options would be a plus.
Bummer I mentioned at the beginning I was vegan and I got my empanadas first one chicken, one meat; lucky my cousin tried them first, second time they brought one vegan and again one with cheese, so I only got to try one. I think this should not happen in these type of places. Moreover when they brought the bill they said the birthday dessert they had brought was not going to be charged due to the inconveniences, didn't know you can be charged for something you didn't order.
Anyway I think (and I hope) it was only a situation there, yet I think is a good place for good food with nice atmosphere.
Super fun restaurant and great food. The waiter was very helpful . He explained what the different voices were and guided us. I recommend it
fun place and excellent food, not conceited cuisine, they just know what they are doing and they do it well.
Great food !!! just a little pricey. We will go only for special celebrations.
