La Mar Cebicheria Peruana Ratings and Reviews
Where do I begin? This restaurant was highly recommended to me by a friend and we couldn't be more disappointed. We were expecting so much more. We had our reservation more than a month before (they book up early) and then they call morning of our reservation to say that the restaurant is booked up for the evening for a buy-out and they need to move our 2:30pm reservation to 1pm. Did they not consider that perhaps we are coming from a long way away and have had this booked so long before? Inconsiderate! I called back saying we could not make 1pm but that we would be able to do 1:30pm..even though this was for a birthday celebration and we had to change other plans for our day!! Then, a lady calls back to say she is soooo sorry and that for our trouble she will be providing additional services to make up for it. We thanked her and arrived before 1:30pm and were seated quickly. What made us more upset that they never apologized when we arrived NOR gave ANY extra services as promised. Furthermore, our drinks consisted of large infused ice cubes taking up more than half the glass. They really know how to save money and charge you more!!! Most of the dishes were delicious and that is all they had going, to be honest. Lastly, we stated we were celebrating a birthday on our reservation and they did absolutely nothing but yet I noticed they did for other tables. COULDN'T HAVE A WORST EXPERIENCE! $300 lunch for a table of 4 absolutely wasted!!!!
Food not as good as it used it be. Disappointed in my meal. Got stuck in back room near water and not under a heater--felt cold. Also, a lot of noise from boats on the pier. I used to love this place, but will not be going back. So expensive for the quality and experience. Service was so so. We waited a lot for our waiter to circle back to us.
I wanted to dine at a great restaurant that a visiting friend from PA wouldn't get at home. We had drinks in the bar where the staff was friendly and helpful and we enjoyed happy hour prices, then moved on to dinner where the food was delicious but not too heavy, the seafood was fresh, and it was a unique and lovely meal.
Had lunch with a group of 4. Excellent food -- exotic but perfect for an American palate. Wonderful service. A lovely venue, with outdoor seating under heat lamps and a view of water & boats. This is our "go to" restaurant whenever we have visiting friends from out-of-town.
Experience was very good as food was flavorful and prepared and presented as one would expect from an quality establishment. The wait staff’s attention to the diners was well executed not only in our party (4) but we notice the same at other tables . We will definitely repeat and tell our friends.
Ambiance is great. High ceiling and an open feel. But all menu items are overpriced. The special has a scallop appetizer - three medium size (at best) scallops for $29! Ceviche and skewers tasting items are too expensive for what you get. Waiter is nice, but he seems to keep pushing for high-priced items on the menu. We also asked for a window seat, but got seated by a post in between two large windows. So much for a view ....
Been here a few times and I gotta say La Mar never disappoints. Food is superb and made with love, you can taste it in every bite. The desserts were delicious, and they even gave us one for celebrating a birthday. The cocktail and mock tails have a wide variety as well as the wine list. I will always recommend this place to people I know.
We were a few minutes late to the restaurant and the greeter could not have been nicer. He sat us right away and within minutes we were asked what we wanted to drink and provided menus.
The service was great! We had a lot of the vegetarian options and I would order those again and again! The veggie ceviche is genius and so tasty! We also had the quinoa chaufa which was out of this world! I probably would have licked the bowl....but, it's a fancy restaurant. :)
Everything we ordered was fantastic, the sauce they give to dip the plantains is to die for! I was very impressed!
The Cebiche Mecca of California! Not even a block away from the Ferry Building in the Embacadero in San Francisco. The noise level inside is muted by the pure bliss and party in your mouth after sampling the Cebiche. If you have more than two people they have specials that have humongous fresh fish cooked to share...and make your eyes roll back in your head. The service is a well oiled machine that makes you comfortable with the menu and can help make your meal completely memorable. After your toes stop curling in ecstasy, you could possibly ask about the dessert menu. I never got there. My wife truly enjoyed our time...especially because we were on our first night “away” from our kids. We did it for the “Halibut”! Get it??? Ahhhh, nevermind. Bravissimo le Mar! Best/First Peruvian meal I’ve had...won’t be the last.
Stay away! There are hundreds of better restaurants in San Francisc - Coqueta, for instance, which is only a few steps away from La Mar. Service was absolutely awful, some of the worst ever - starting with a bungling host who left us standing in the middle of the dining room, without seating us or giving us menus. Finally, when menus arrived, the server was not able to answer questions about ingredients. (We had two guests who have food allergies.) He clearly guessed at the answers rather than checking with the kitchen, and both dishes served to our allergic friends had the dreaded ingredients the server had sworn were not included. After taking our drink order, he disappeared for 15 minutes, returning with part of the order only (two beers). Finally, after another 15 minutes, I flagged someone down and asked them to find out what happened to my glass of white wine. (These were not complex cocktails we were after.) The disasters continued with two nearly inedible first courses followed by four ill-prepared entrees. Our waitperson disappeared for the rest of the evening, and I could not find him to make any further request. He reappeared at the end of the meal when nothing more could be done and to ask if we wanted dessert (not complimentary), which we declined in our eagerness to escape. Our friends and I are locals. We have long wanted to dine at La Mar, but never quite found the time or occasion. Now we never will again. Such a shame to have ruined a joyful reunion of old friends!
Went there on a Friday, made reservations for two at 7:15, bay bridge traffic was horrible, so we called to move the reservations to 7:30, they said no problem.
We got seated right away, had to ask for Corner table as they were seating us in the middle, had asked for a corner table while making the reservation. I think they should offer the best table available, not sure why they don’t. Ordered a bottle of Argentinian Chardonnay, the sommelier came by and said they were out, but offered us an amazing Chardonnay from Mendoza. We ordered the ceviche tasting menu and everything was just amazing. The food there is healthy and very creative. If you want to eat healthy but enjoy creative and tasty food, this is it!
The only problem that we had was with Open Table, since we had made a reservation with points to be redeemed, and this did not work. Until now no reply from Open Table on that issue... very sad to realize that the App is good to make reservations, but that the club does not make your life easy when it comes to redeem your points and actually benefit from being a member!
