La Mar is a stunning, historic setting to host an event with an added Peruvian flare. Inspired by the thousands of Cebicherías found throughout Peru, La Mar Cebichería Peruana was created to globalize and preserve one of the best guarded treasures of Peruvian cuisine: Cebiche.View Private Dining Details
We have been looking forward to dining at Le Mar for a couple years and were let down by the event. The space was very loud and we couldn't hear our waiter and the food was just okay. My husband and I both ordered fish for our main and neither of us enjoyed it enough to finish the dishes.
There were so many options to choose from and very little guidance. When we asked the waiter how to navigate the menu he ended up taking us through the entire menu vs. recommending items for the courses.
We enjoy the owner’s restaurant Tanta in Chicago so we thought while in San Fran we’d check out this place. Very delicious. Went at lunch so not terribly crowded.
Great food and service! Had a great time! The food was very delicious, our waiter was knowledgeable and helpful, he helped us select from the large menu.
Un lugar muy ameno para celebrar,la comida muy rica, los precios un poco elevados,el servicio de primera.
Food was great, unfortunately our waiter forgot we were there and besides getting our order never check back with us until we ask for the check. I asked the hostess to help me celebrate my spouse birthday and they didn’t offer anything.
One meal was outstanding another was average, service was poor...waiter was distracted
The food was excellent and the service was very good. It’s a very beautiful venue but I would’ve hoped for a better table given that we made the reservation for party of five over a week in advance. Instead we were seated at the shared community table with hard wooden seats that were very uncomfortable.
Interesting food, but way too noisy.
The tables are very close.
The service is fast but not personable.
The restaurant would not apply the open table gift card
Sat on the water, fantastic food presentation, hope to come back soon!
We celebrated our wedding day celebration at La Mar and they treated us with champagne toast for the table- what a great touch! It made our special celebration even more special! Service was amazing food was fantastic, we were so glad we chose La Mar!
Noise level was deafening, but the food was absolutely fantastic. Incredible flavor assortment for ceviche. I had no idea of the flexibility of quinoa to add texture and flavor to main course meals as well as dessert! Start your meal with Pisco sour!
Visited from out of town. Amazing Ceviche and Lomo! Also best tres leche cake ever!
Out of town relatives dinner celebration
Very expensive and menu not clear. I doubled order and still not enough for 4 people, even though waiter said the "shared" plates were enough. We are not big eaters, but amounts were skimpy. Cocktails were also very small. Lovely setting, nice walk to ferry.
Super delicious - great flavors, service and vibe
Food portions are way smaller than they used to be.
Fabulous venue for my daughter’s birthday. Food is taken to an elevated level here. An amazing variety and such a treat to try the variety of dishes. Dinner was just as outstanding as dessert. I’m grateful such a phenomenal opportunity to enjoy fine Peruvian dining is in SF.
The location was great - right on the water - and the decor inside was clean but beautiful. The menu looked amazing and we wanted to try everything, so we got the Experiencia Cebicheria which was a little of everything. The cebiche was amazing, and it was a very filling experience for only $69. We couldn't even finish dessert and had it boxed up for us to take home. Though we did eat the sorbet in the restaurant, the alfajores were so good the next day. There was a problem with the credit card machine at the end so we had to wait a while for the check, but they brought out free drinks for our wait. It was an overall great experience and I wish we lived in SF so we could go back!
From the time we entered everyone was super nice, food was delicious and different. Wasn’t rushed. Superb views.
This place isn't cheap but you get what you pay for. I went here with my husband for our 10 year anniversary. The food was excellent. The service is awesome. Friendly & professional. The restaurant is very nice. Not over the top but very modern & classy. Very nice outdoor seating. I will be coming back. I was not disappointed. It was, overall, a lovely experience.
Guests in town- made resv. Month in advance- no table ready(they were NOT prepared for holiday rush)45 min wait, delayed / ignored service- they were unprepared & over booked- tried to accommodate too many & it was a mess!
Best Peruvian food and I’ve actually spent time in Peru. Great service!
Great food. And, we had an outstanding waitress who was very familiar with the ingredients in each dish.
First time here, wow! Outstanding location, open & airy right on the water. Our server spent time going over the menu, even suggested we ordered too much. The food, A+. We sampled the tasting menu & got a little bit of everything. Interesting desserts & so good. We’ll be back!
Didn’t get requested outdoor seating. There were empty seats but the hostess said it was reserved.
Excellent! One of my favorite restaurants in the Embarcadero/FiDi area.
Excellent food and service; treat yourself if you've never had a Peruvian ceviche. That and the Arroz del mar were just exceptional. Dining that does *not* disappoint.
Food was very good. They forgot one dish that we ordered and the waiter began to disagree with me saying that he had brought it. He backed down when four of us assured him he hadn't.
Also I had stated in the reservation that we were celebrating a friend's birthday and this was not acknowledged in any way. I would have expected at the very least a candle in the desserts we ordered and paid for.
Very nice restaurant. The food and service were excellent.
I was incredibly disappointed in the choice and volume of the music. At some point in our meal, the volume was turned up to a level that would rival any night club, and it was 8:30 PM. It was so loud, that not only were my friend and I screaming at each other, the salsa music made it impossible to actually think. Inside it was perfectly fine. After we complained to the waiter, the music was turned off, but only after the song completely finished, volume still as loud.
There was no reason to turn the music completely off. As we left, the turned the music back on at full volume. It was 9:30. I will not return and I have eaten here multiple times.
Incredible food and experience. Highly recommend. The cocktails were amazing. The pasco sour seemed to be the most popular drink. The service was excellent. We had never been to a Peruvian restaurant so the menu options were a bit confusing for us but the server was really helpful explaining things. He even gave us a recommendation which we went with and it was delicious.
Corporate leadership lunch
The Jalea needs something to go with it - it's not good as a pile of fried seafood. I was hoping the yucca and avocado would offset the heaviness, but it just didn't do it. It's just a fried calamari appetizer, basically. Doesn't hold a candle to the Salmon la mar, which is adjacent on the menu, so that was disappointing.
Music was * throughout the restaurant. We were first seated at a large table and requested a smaller 4 top table. Our waiters were brusk and hurried. When we gave 2 credit cards to split the bill, they charged 100% to each card! Honest! The manager apologized and corrected things and offered sparkling wine to us. Terrible experience.
Unusual restaurant with Peruvian and Asian cuisine. My husband and I booked it because we know someone from Peru who said he loved the chef's cooking. Fun vibe on the Embarcadero.
Foods and services are superb! The specials were excellent. Will definitely come back!
We had 2 different ceviches (Classico and Mixto) and the ahi tuna salad-- all a knock- out. Past visits included more of the menu, but this time, the food and price point was just right. If you arent careful in ordering , it can get $$
The place is large and can get quite crowded--sometimes service is slower than expected, but generally if you arent in a big rush, just enjoy!
I keep returning-great place to go with gals or the special one!
