The location is amazing, the service is good, and the food is also quite good.
My only criticism (and it is a big one) is that I was not contacted to be made aware of a special Mother’s Day menu until a couple of days before, where I learned of the $95/pp prefix price tag before any drinks. I made my reservation weeks before and I was not aware of a special menu, although maybe I should have assumed given the day. Maybe there was a menu posted on their website. I’m not sure that I checked before making the reservation.
To me, this was inconsiderate by the restaurant staff - leaving me with no other options the Thursday before Mother’s Day.
This was an expensive meal for me and my family and a heads up would have been nice so we could have made a decision accordingly.
Otherwise, the experience was good and my wife and mother in law enjoyed it.
It was a fixed price menu for Mother's day and every single dish was fabulous.
It was nothing short of fantaboulous! What are you waiting on—set your reservations now. Nuff Said!
We've been eating here for years and everything remains at highest quality of food and service. Excellent place.
I definitely coming back , there was a lil mini thing unlike is that the person who was picking up the plates was too fast I wasn’t even finish my dish when he pickup my plate he did ask me but his hands was already in my plate .. Everyone love the place and food
We are coming back to try other dishes. ;)
It's very rare that I classify a meal as going to "Flavor Town" but this was one of those times! Our grilled halibut, coordinated sauces and side were absolutely incredible!! Thank you for an AMAZING meal!! 👏
Times have changed, and perhaps my expectations have too, but my dinner at La Mar this past week was disappointing. In pre CV times, La Mar was always a favorite. This past Thursday, May 6, for a first social outing in well over a year among girlfriends who haven't seen one another and needed a night out and catchup, we had thought La Mar's patio would be a great option for outdoor dining. It was my belief was that regulations/rules in this post-pandemic surge environment required that capacity within any physical space in a restaurant be limited to 50% of capacity, instead, we arrived and saw that La Mar's policy was that 50% capacity of the entire restaurant's capacity could be housed entirely on their outdoor patio. It was packed. Meanwhile, inside was empty. And it appeared that as much as half of the patio was taken up by some sort of unmasked happy hour of 40-50 very energetic friends/coworkers who were mingling, walking around, laughing and cheering at top volume. It felt uncomfortable and unsafe - we felt horribly for their servers and staff. I would have hated to have been seated on the other side of the rope from those people. They should have had a private room away from the rest of us. We sat on the opposite side of the patio, and still had a difficult time talking amongst ourselves due to the distraction activity and noise from the large group and everyone else in the patio who had to holler amongst themselves to be heard. It was a lesson-learned. Future reservations for any restaurant will be followed up with a call to find out what their policy is. While we are all fully vaccinated and in good health, the experience was so unpleasant as to lead to a group discussion about not returning to La Mar for any dinners any time soon. While it could have just been poor planning, it put many diners in a position to feel at risk. They may want to re-think their policy. The food and drink is wonderful - I hope to return one day, but perhaps not for a long while.
Food was delicious, well balanced, and plated beautifully. Location and ambience were also wonderful. Prices were a bit high for the portions served though.
I know these are challenging times for us all, and I never give a bad review, but we were so disappointed that I am glad to have the chance to give you feedback. You have been a go to place for us for years, but I think we are going to call it quits.
It was so loud that our table of 5 couldn't even talk to each other. We were with family that we hadn't seen for over a year and couldn't even hear each other. We gave up.
The lighting was terrible, like a bad cafeteria.
The food is the reason to go there, it was not as great this time.
The waiter was lackluster for sure. Seemed a little put out.
Again, it may be unfair to review any rest. during these times, but I think you should know.
We were kind of embarrassed because it was our idea to take our out of town guests there and it was not a good experience.
Calamari appetizer was very disappointing. Had not even been cleaned of black ink which made the dish gritty and unappetizing. Heavy on sauces to the point we couldn't taste the flavor of the fish or meat. Not worth those prices at all.
Pleasantly surprised..the food was better than I imagined.
Food and drinks here make for a great experience. Very clean environment. We sat outside and it was warm and comfortable. Parking can be a challenge, as it can be for all of the piers. We arrived after a game had finished and right around 7:30 PM and it was easy to find nearby parking. Still, I would arrive a little early. There is a pier just around the corner to walk down after the meal and I would recommend for a date or fun outing with a group. Hope you enjoy!
Poor quality food overall. Very good service however. Pricing is silly. I understand tourist pricing-but $46 for a bowl of rice and 4 prawns?
Will not be returning or referring.
The restaurant is a pleasant and relaxing environment
Great food with terrific vibe. Just like the old days !
Food was so good, every single item we ordered. You can’t go wrong. Outdoor patio was nice, with a scenic view of the bay, and service was A+, especially from our sever, Gina. My girlfriend had a very Happy Bday!
The fresh seafood was AMAZING!! Service was also outstanding!
La mar was amazing our server was so knowledgeable and kind he recommended great items we had a memorable time
We came to San Francisco to celebrate my wife bday and this was the perfect gift for her!! Really good peruvian food one of the best that I tried outside mu country, excellent service and facilities. I totally recommend this restaurant specially if you are celebrating.
Fantastic restaurant with amazing food and the greatest management and staff!!!!!
Took our son for his birthday. Beautiful location at the Bay. The food was very tasty. It was my first visit but will definitely go back.
Lively, fun, attentive staff, relaxed with high quality
The food was simply perfect and the service great. Can't wait to go there again.
My birthday lunch with friends was outstanding! We were well cared for!
Excellent food & lovely setting Service was also great
Food was great. Service was fantastic from the hostess, bartenders, and wait staff. Ambiance is classic San Francisco pier style.
This place is always a pleasure. No complaints. Everything is top notch.
Bit hectic to start, I wasn't actually seated until 30 minutes after my reservation time. Food was appropriately priced, service was good throughout the dinner. All of the fish was extremely fresh, flavorful, and well prepared
I like the environment and also the service . In Peruvian and all I can say Is that the ceviche was good but not great. The rest of the food was really good though.
The food was outstanding and every dish impressed
They just opened for indoor dining a week or two ago. Tables are spaced apart, waiters wear masks. We took a Lyft there, and got to the restaurant a bit early as we did not have to search for parking. It was a date night, and we hadent been out in 3 weeks. They took us right to a table, after checking our temperatures. Water bottle brought right away. There was one of those squiggly things that you are supposed to read with your phone in a browser, but it was too small to read even with my glasses. So we asked for paper menus. The menu was considerably reduced from the last time I was here (pre-pandemic). We got a glass of rose each and ordered some appetizers, cirviche and the sushi mix. Both were excellent. For the main course we had a dish with large prawns over rice, kind of like a Peruvian Paiella. It too was excellent. The acoustics in the restaurant were bad, and we had to yell to hear each other. We had chocolate cake for dessert, which was also great. The service throughout was wonderful and not obtrusive, they have enough staff, unlike many places starting up from the pandemic. We ate early, but when we left at 7:00 there was a line in the foyer. I would recommend this restaurant for date night, although it is quite expensive!
A family meal in our first trip to San Francisco, La Mar was our place of choice and we enjoyed every bite and every sip.
Wonderful Leche de Tigre, authentic flavor, as good as in Lima, Peru.
Another superb ceviche experience
Only complaint was the chips had too much salt on them.
Server got me a replacement with no problem
La Mar is a bright star during these dark times
Always tasty food, but the bill rises quickly when you are doing family style.
Hadn’t been to LaMar since before pandemic. Food still wonderful as before. The crab sandwich a d empanadas were wonderful. Service was perfect. We sat outside and enjoyed the view. My wife, a former Port developer, managed the development of the Pier 1, 1 ½, 3 project. So we are very familiar with LaMar as well as all the properties that make up this development. So glad LaMar is still going strong.
Different kind of food. Amazing taste seasoning. I recommended this place.
The food is really delicious. Our server was slightly rushing our service that’s the only thing I disliked from our experience. The ambience was good. I took my daughter and my step son and they had a good time. There’s no kid options so that’s the only thing to think about if you’re planning on taking your kids. The beef empanadas are delicious. The chicken empanadas taste like fish. Every thing else we ordered was delicious.
My husband and I shared the $75 Bandeja Cebichera which was fresh, perfectly seasoned, and totally filling. After he added the Pisco Sour and I added the Spicy Melon and the 25% tip, our bill came to $150 which was exactly what we expected. The service was excellent; the other patrons all wore masks until the food came; everyone socially distanced in the line to the ladies' room; in short, we will eat there again soon.
What a beautiful place to dine with amazing food and the ambiance was awesome with a spectacular view of the bay!!! Everything super duper in one package!!!
We had a reservation for a party of five and were here for the restaurants week. We were seated outside at a corner table which was awesome - quieter, more private & the weather was very nice. Good menu and we were impressed by their sampler - very fresh and tasty. Our host was attentive, very nice experience overall!
