La Mangeoire is a cozy French Bistro serving authentic French Fare. The wine list and cocktail choices are limited, but well chosen. While the food is still very good, the service is not what it was under the previous French regime. Gone are the excellent French waiters and extremely accommodating French host/ manager. The new waitstaff is very pleasant, but service on a Wednesday evening was spotty, disorganized and lacked the polish of the prior staff. The new host/ manager lacked the attentive, warm and accommodating vibe of the prior management. Happily, however, the food remains delicious, from the onion soup, to endive or Boston lettuce salad to the steak frites. Also scrumptiously notable was the crepe with caramel ice cream.
La Mangeoire is a neighborhood restaurant serving truly good French food. I hope that the pleasant staff becomes more attentive and organized and the host/manager develops the attentive, accommodating demeanor we have become accustomed to at this neighborhood gem.

My last review for La Mangeoire was not so good, but they got their groove back and it was over the top delicious. We ordered amongst 3 friends, two of whom are food writers, ( not me), boef bourguignon , trout amandine, beet salad, onion soup, endive salad, profiteroles, and glasses of Sancerre.
Everything was delicious. The restaurant is civilized and not noisy. The service is excellent. And it is moderately priced...for a Bistro in New York City.
I look forward to a return visit.
One complaint is that the restaurant is under new ownership, and the new matire d, or owner, is short on charm...so ignore him.

This restaurant has been there forever and had become a sleeper. It has recently come to life again, re-energized by Gary, the new owner, with good French food, very decent wines and an interesting bar. Some dishes are exceptional, such as the lamb chops. The service is friendly and efficient. The place is worth a visit, you will probably return.

This restaurant exceeded my expectations. It was charming, the service was very friendly and professional and the food was excellent. It's the kind of place you like to go when you love very good French food, but don't want the trappings of a formal restaurant. Three of us went, and loved it. I had a lamb special that was gorgeous pieces of very pink lamb tenderloin alternating with roasted tomatoes served over a bed of cocoa beans, which are small white beans. Very flavorful.

We sought out a restaurant with more of a neighbourhood feeling than what is the norm in Midtown. A short walk from our hotel but it felt like we were not in the hustle and bustle of NYC.

Great bistro style food with friendly attentive staff.

I’ve been dining here for 30 years and hadn’t been for a year or so. It used to be cozy and charming but now seems frayed around the edges with lackadaisical service and just okay food My husband and I ordered a glass of champagne from the menu when we arrived. It was totally flat and when we sent it back, we were told that they didn’t have any more. This is supposed to be an upscale restaurant. They won’t have us anymore either.

This is a very nice neighborhood restaurant. There were good choices on the menu, and our meal was quite tasty. As a neighborhood restaurant, there were families, including at a table near us: grandparents, daughter and 4-year-old whiny granddaughter. Our experience would have been better if we had been seated in another part of the restaurant.

The food was good - classic bistro options, without annoying nouveau amendments. Good wine list. For some reason we were seated just opposite the door (on a cold snowy night) and next to the register booth, which meant we were subject to a blinding overhead light every time the house was settling a bill. An annoying distraction to an otherwise pleasant evening.

A cozy French Bistro serving authentic French fare. The French onion soup was delicious and a meal in itself. The lobster bisque was also very tasty. While they have a reasonable price fixed dinner ($47 pp) that includes a choice of appetizers, entrees and desserts, we opted for the regular menu. The tasty pork tenderloin was tender and accompanied by vegetables. The duck breast was beautifully seasoned and also served with vegetables. The beef borguinon was tender, rich and well flavored with a ramekin of mashed potatoes. The hand cut frites were hot, well seasoned and cooked to crispy perfection. The cocktail offerings are simple and traditional, and the wines, while a bit limited, are well chosen. The atmosphere is warm, cozy and pleasant and the service is accommodating and attentive. (Notably missing were our lovely French waiters and warm, charming French host, although our new waiters were quite good). La Mangeoire is a little neighborhood gem, serving very good French food, and we all enjoyed our evening

My wife and I first went to La Mangeoire in 1978 and have returned periodically ever since. We no longer live in the neighborhood. I understand that it is under new management. The food is still very good and the interior is still charming French country. Dinner on Valentine's Day may not be the best time to judge a restaurant but this was a very nice experience.

La Mangeoire has changed hands. It is not nearly as good as it used to be. I have been there at least 10-15 times and I probably won't go again. My friend's steak was so tough that she couldn't eat it. They did comp half her entrée cost.

Brunch was tasty and a great value for the area (midtown east can get quite pricey!). Servers were kind and they accommodated out large group with no issue. Eggs Benedict with salmon and egg in a hole were crowd favorites! Definitely would recommend!

I come here every Sunday for brunch. The food is amazing and the prices are low compared to everywhere else nearby. $30 gets you bottomless mimosas or bloody marys, an entree (try the eggs benedict), and coffee/tea. The service is superb and the new manager, Gary, is so kind and accommodating!

We tried La Mangeoire for the first time while visiting NYC recently. We were very pleased with our delicious meal and the excellent service. There were many good menu choices but we decided to share the beet salad with greens and toasted hazelnuts which was very tasty and ample for sharing. For our main course we both chose Le Au Vin De La Mangeoire which has been on the menu since 1975! The dark meat chicken, mushrooms and vegetables were very flavorful since they were perfectly cooked and seasoned in the red wine sauce. Again it was a fairly large portion so we asked to take the leftovers with us. We were too full for dessert but it was a wonderful meal so we hope to return during our next visit. Thank you to all of the staff for making it a memorable occasion for us!
