I was very disappointed in my dinner the other night. This is about the fifth time that I have eaten here, but I shall not ever go back.
I don't know what happened to this lovely French bistro, but the two dishes I had were dreadful.
I ordered the escargots....One wouldn't think that a French restaurant couldn't ruin them, but they did. They were served in a plate with lots of chopped greasy vegetables over them and hardly any garlic. They were almost inedible.
Then I ordered the coq au vin. There was one dinky piece of chicken thigh and again it was covered with a sauce with lardons of bacon that had not been properly prepared for the coq au vin. The bacon tasted like a raw slab of fat and I couldn't find the mushrooms, or the carrots because they were all chopped up into the sauce which was too fatty and greasy and needed deglazing.
Since I wasn't drinking that evening, I cannot comment on their wine list.
I'm sure that there might be some simple and plain dish there, that could not be ruined, but if a French restaurant can't prepare escargots and coq au vin, they're in the wrong business.
I am very sad to write such a scathing review, but perhaps if the restaurant reads this, they might look and taste their cooking.

Opportunity for us to reconnect with relatives from out of town over a very nice lunch. The restaurant was quiet so that everyone could speak with, and hear others. Menu chocked full of "French comfort food" like onion soup, charcuterie, and salads, along with larger entrees. Service was very attentive. Only bone to pick was the extremely limited wine list, with a mark-up of four times retail.

We have been here 4-5 times over the past three when a group of 5-7 friends gets together in NYC. Always a good time—it’s clearly a French place and they do it well. The service seems to adapt itself to the group’s pace and we’ve always enjoyed it so much, both as a backdrop for our get together sand on its own terms that we’ve never felt the need for a new spot. Very enjoyable evenings.

I always looked forward to dining here when visiting NYC. The change of ownership explains why my experience was so poor at all levels. The food was not what I was used to and the staff was clearly overwhelmed.

The food was not as good as what the prior owner served. The coq au vin was cooked with carrots------it never is. It had chopped up vegetables on top of the chicken, including the carrots. Coq au vin doesn't have chopped up vegetables. The chicken just fell apart indicating that the chicken was from some prior day. The brown gravy was some sort of concoction. The endive salad was really good and just like what existed with the prior owner. There was a chicken dish that came with a salad. What would do without salads. The people who had it said it was vary average. I doubt we will go back to a place that we went many times with the former owner.

Excellent food in a lovely French bistro. Unfortunately they open the windows to the outside so on a hot night the AC is useless

We have been to Le Mangeoire numerous times and they never fail to disappoint . My son and I recently went on a trip to France, it was a nice reminder of our trip...

We tried Saturday brunch at La Mangeoire and were very disappointed. Starting with a bloody mary that was very hard to drink (it had much too much hot pepper) and continuing with an order of avocado toast ( not bad) which had wilted salad and greasy, barely warm potatoes as sides meant that we left before dessert and coffee. The good service and the nice atmosphere did not make up for the quality of the food. We'll go elsewhere next time.

Disappointing. Long-time neighborhood French restaurant with a Mediterranean angle, now missing many French riviera specialties. Much was overcooked. Sauces were tasty, but overall just not worth what you're paying for.

My friends and I enjoyed the food and dessert immensely. The ambience was nice and quiet. It was a pleasant surprise that the price was quite reasonable for French cuisine. There is room for improvement in their service though.

La Mangeoire is under new ownership and is working hard to achieve the success level of the prior management. The menu is new, offering contemporary French food which is well prepared but veers away from standard French dishes by pairing the main entrée ingredient with unusual side items (e.g., grilled lamb chops with pureed chic peas and yogurt.) Service is pleasant and the new decoration is attractive. We'll try it again soon.

I have eaten at La Mangeoire many times over the years. Classy, elegant, traditional, but not at all pretentious. The service is excellent and the food is parfait. My favorite East Side French restaurant.

My wife and I have been going to Mangeoire for years and It WAS one of our favorite places. On our most recent visit we learned that the restaurant had new ownership and our experience was disappointing. The appetizers were oversized. I was told by our server that the salmon entrée was "wild salmon". When it came, it was white and not pink, clearly farm-raised. I sent it back. Additionally dessert was a very disappointing mound of merengue smothering a lemon tart.

We do not plan on returning to this restaurant. The old ambiance is gone.

There are lots of French restaurants in NYC. This is one of the OK ones. Appetizers were large but uninspired. Lots of Serrano ham on my plate nut much to thick (it should be very thin) and the melon was not ripe.

The chicken was backed not done on a rotisserie and was dry. The frets were very good ta though.

All in all not not a restaurant I will be returning to.

Kudos to this under reported and really fine food restaurant. I have been there for dinner which was delicious and last Saturday for brunch. It was fabulous. The servers were attentive and the food delicious. The portions are very substantial and the atmosphere is friendly and festive.

My husband loved the eggs Benedict which he truly thought were one of the best he has had in 50 years! In fact we were at Boulud Sun on Sunday and he again had Eggs Benedict and he felt they could not compete.

FInding a really good SATURDAY brunch is not simple in Manhattan, but La Mangeoire offers a varied menu of well-prepared items, most with French flair, to please one and all, along with bottomless brunch drinks to enhance the proceedings -- and if brunch doesn't do it for you, they'll serve you lunch instead. Outstanding welcome and skillful service from young, considerate and accommodating Maitre d' and staff.

Enjoyed the ambience, the service and the food.
Would have appreciated a wider selection of wine by the glass.
I thought the food was much better than last time we ate there; tried again as I heard restaurant under new management.
Now I would recommend it--much, much improved.
We had a lovely unrushed dinner!

Very accommodating staff. Even though we had confirmed, we had to change the number of guests at the last minute. The process was seamless. The 3-course prix fixe is an outstanding value. A great find! Great French bistro...in Midtown! Highly recommend.

My mom and I have always liked this spot, and though there seems to have been a change in the kitchen, it is one we welcome. She enjoyed her early mother's day dinner, and couldn't stop talking about the lamb chops.

Merci! A bientot

I went with the prix fixe menu. I started with the endive salad, tarragon dressing, grated roquefort cheese. The salad would have been better if it hadn't been drowning in cheese. When it came to the table, it looked like a pile of grated cheese. I had to scrape most of it off. I like the salad flavored with cheese, not the other way around. For the main, I had the pork loin which was excellent. Finished with cassis sorbet (loved that) and an espresso. Somewhere in between, there were a couple of glasses of wine. The fixed price menu has a good choice for both starters, main course and dessert. It's a very good value. Service was very good and we certainly were not rushed. Will be returning.
