La Locanda Ratings and Reviews
This was our first visit to La Locanda...and it was a home run! We love Italian food, but it's tough to find really good, authentic places to dine in the city. I dread trying to park in Old Town, but we were pleasantly surprised by the plentiful, easy parking. The inside is tastefully and warmly decorated, exceptionally clean, and cozy. Most importantly, the food was completely AMAZING. They offer an impressive selection of great wines by the glass, including two Super Tuscans for red lovers. Lobster bisque was the soup special, and the flavor was spot-on. The beet and goat cheese salad was gorgeously presented on a long, thin plate with plentiful pieces of freshly cooked beets and a creamy, flavorful cheese. Perfect execution! I find that risotto is always a risky order; 90% of the time, it's overcooked, mushy, or gelatinous. This risotto is what I always hope for when we take the risk! The grains were cooked but maintained their individual integrity and texture...and the flavor of the dish was earthy with just the right amount of saffron and truffle to make it interesting. We tried their special dessert: the apple cobbler. Again, perfectly flavored with a large scoop of delicious vanilla ice cream on top. FYI: they have a large room for private parties of 30ish people. This was a fantastic introduction to La Locanda...we will be back regularly!!
We were fans of the original La Locanda restaurant and enjoyed many wonderful Italian meals there every time we were in town. So naturally we were very sad when it closed a couple of years ago. The good news is La Locanda has reopened at a new location and the restaurant is absolutely beautiful! The pasta was fresh and wonderful and the sauces outstanding. One more thing that made our dining experience over-the-top was our server, Aaron, who was excellent!!!
PS: I am Italian...
Lo Locanda is absolutely amazing. The best food and service. Very knowledgeable staff. This food is seriously the closest we have had to the food in Italy. It is amazing. The setup is nice and open and the mood is perfect. I would recommend this place for any occasion. It is tucked away in the back of Old Town, so you would probably miss it if you weren't looking.
The restaurant looks small and cozy on 5th ave but is roomy when you gets inside. The decor looks warm and pleasing to the eye. We all ordered non-alcoholic drinks and those are ok. The grilled calamari was a bit chewy but tasted ok. The salad was good and tasty. The special lobster risotto was very good and tasty and very filling. The veal osso bucco was tender and just yummy. The grilled branzino tasted good but its veggies were burned...
We got all stuffed and didn't order desserts.
In all, dinner was very good.
Had an incredible meal with friends. Had been to La Locanda in it's old location. Was so happy to discover it was back! Had the risotto with lobster. So perfect in every way! For appetizer we had grilled calamari. It was truly amazingly delicious! Had Tiramisu for dessert. So so good!
Will be going back again and again. Highly recommend this restaurant. You will not be disappointed!
Overall, we really enjoyed La Locanda. It is in Old Town Scottsdale but a little tucked our of the way with great parking. Aaron was a rockstar waiter -- A+! We started with the calamari in limoncello broth. The flavor was good, but the calamari was chewy. The bread was DELICIOUS. Aaron was really helpful with the wines. Then, we had the (whole) lobster risotto. This is not on the menu and only on weekends. That was epic! So delicious. It was like edible lobster bisque. It was perfectly balanced. We did not have any dessert (although we thought about it).
They are starting a special on Mondays for $50 (including a glass of wine) that looks good (although all of the entrees have pasta; they need to change that).
I say give it a try! If you have any doubts, start with Monday night!
Absolutely love this restaurant! I had the scallops and they were the best I've had anywhere in a long time, and of course their risotto is just to die for! The caprese was also great and the bread was very fresh and warm. I'm so surprised that this place isn't crowded all the time.
Sorry. This place was disappointing
My seafood was not good at all. The shrimp was overdone and the clams smelled funny.
The menu was way overpriced for what it was. It was way too loud in there too we could t hear each other
Food is decent but not great. Menu is good and interesting, but they need to work on it a little more. With all of the great restaurants right around there, they really aren't going to last if they don't up the game a little. Also, they should not serve their bread, it's awful.
We were seated near a group of ladies celebrating something. They were having a good time and were pretty loud. The restaurant was pretty empty, so not sure why we were seated in that particular place as it was obvious that the table next door was loud. Anyway, we asked to move to a table across the room and were graciously accommodated. My husband ordered a caprese appetizer, which was just okay. The tomatoes weren't good and he had to ask for additional olive oil and balsamic. I ordered the Caesar salad and it was barely dressed. I don't like salads served drowning in dressing, but there was barely enough dressing even to taste. The lettuce was nice and fresh though. I was deciding between two entrees, and the waitress suggested the scallops because the accompanying risotto was so good. The scallops were very good , but pricey for 3 large scallops, and the risotto was a bit over seasoned and just a touch undercooked. Husband ordered the chicken special which was good, but not worth taking leftovers home. In the meantime, another couple came in and were seated at the table that we had abandoned earlier. They quickly asked to be moved because of the noisy group mentioned earlier. DUH! Bottom line, even with our Groupon, wound up being an expensive meal for pretty average food. Our waitress was attentive and timely.
The food was almost not eatable. My spinach and so much salt and the pasta was loaded with
sauce and was not tastie. My friend had the same problem with her food. We left the food and did not box it.
And we spent $104.00. Cannot believe it.
I will never go back.
