La Huaca Peruvian Cuisine
I am not sure if it was just a fluke night or what but this place was not good in terms of service. It started with us waiting over 10 minutes to get seated, there was no crowd just seemed like only 2 people total running the restaurant. We had reservations and finally got a table. The waitress came to take drink orders but unfortunately got them wrong 3 times with us trying to or a vodka soda. We were there about 45 minutes total, there were 5 other tables of people sat and I did not see anyone receive any of their order. We finally asked for our check and then left to go somewhere else. Very disappointing, I was exited to try a new place I hadn't been before and we don't have a ton of good international options around.
The food was great and service was exceptional!
Love this Restaurant! Always great service and excellent food. Meal and service was outstanding. We will definitely be back and suggest this place to all of our family and friends. Suggestion would be to make a reservation on weekends. I am not sure how it is during the week but the times we have gone has been on a weekend night and the place was full. Thanks for the amazing meal.
We have been to LaHuaca several times. This visit was not up to the usual high level. Service was 'inexperienced.' Ordered glass of wine for each of us (2), different 'flavors'. Waiter put them both in front of my wife. We had to taste them to figure out which was which. My wine was 'on the edge' or slightly over. I should have said something, but didn't.
My dish (lamb shanks) was very good, but it arrived almost immediately---before the bread (which we subsequently had to request.)
My position at our table did not have a setting. I grabbed the silverware and napkin from across from me. I thought the waiter should have spotted this.
My wife had the salmon, as she usually does. She stated it was 'dry'. Might have been overcooked.
After finishing main course, waiter appeared with dessert menus. Despite us telling him that we definitely were not going to have dessert, he insisted on leaving the menus with us, then returned with our bill. Slight mix-up on bill, partially my fault because I gave him my Groupon discount after he brought the check.
We will be back because we enjoy La Huaca, but this was not their finest hour.
It was okay. Probably won’t be back.
Fantastic service. Georgio knew several languages and was very friendly. The food was delicious and the wait for it was not long.
We ate at 1:45pm on a Friday afternoon with very few other customers. My wife started with the chicken noodle soup of the day and I an empanada de camaron y pollo; both were delicious and perfectly prepared. My wife thoroughly enjoyed her Arroz del Pacifico Sur (Peruvian style paella) and I my Tallarin Saltado de Carne (fettuccini with top tenderloin cuts). Both dishes were superb with a generous portion of ingredients. The service was excellent, our server was knowledgeable, attentive and pleasant, serving at a pace that matched our mood. Highly recommended.
I made reservations for a Tuesday night, not really needed. I was attracted to the summary and ratings of the restaurant; cuisine influences, etc. I love french food and costa rican food and was excited to taste all the flavors. The rice served with the steak was the best I've ever had, very flavorful. The steak not so much. I don't believe there were any seasonings and it was tough, a bit over cooked. The flavor profiles were less than I anticipated and left me feeling I was at the wrong restaurant. I do feel the prices while typical for dinner, were a bit overpriced for the actual meal. The servers were 'very' attentive. I did give them the usual 20% for their service. But very unlikely will be back. Thank you.
We enjoyed having unique food. The Pisco Sours were refreshing. We had the croquettes and 3 types of ceviche for starters. Our waiter, George, was great at guiding us through the menu.
Excellent food. The flavors were top notch. We had the cocktail sampler which was an amazing taste experience.
What a great place! We had a few of the appetizers and shared. Delicious ceviche sampler, empanadas. We will definitely be back when we visit Rocklin again--will be often!
Recommended by a friend who is Peruvian. We went to the Sunday buffet to try to taste the different dishes native to Peru. We went a few weeks before head on a weeklong vacation to Lima, Cusco and Sacred Valley. We enjoyed trying it. Our favorite dish was the Lomo Saltado! The Pisco Sour was great and it was on special B1G1 for a $1
The food was good and something different. It seemed a little pricey, even with a Groupon. The service was good and food arrived quickly...almost too quickly. The ambience was ok but I expected something a little nicer based on the menu prices.
The Pisco Sour cocktail is wonderful. Also cilantro rice is yummy. Give it a try. The waiter was great and explained everyting
We've eaten at La Huaca before, for lunch and dinner, and always enjoy the experience. This was our first time trying the Sunday brunch. I always have a hard time deciding what to order at lunch or dinner, so the best thing about the brunch is the opportunity to try and enjoy so many dishes, not only things from the regular menu, but other dishes as well—everything was delicious. The serving staff is always so friendly and helpful in describing the dishes; our server this time, Yessy, was especially delightful.
Wondeful food. A neighborhood gem
We absolutely loved our entire dining experience. George was our server and he was excellent and gave exceptional service. The empanadas were a great appetizer to start.. and the lamb shank was slow cooked and seriously delish! We will definitely be back!
Our server Yessy was great.
Very good... the flavors of the sauce, very vibrant
We celebrated my wife's birthday at our favorite 'neighborhood' restaurant. What a nice surprise to have a balloon on the table and a "Happy Birthday' serenade. The food, as usual, was scrumptious. I had the seafood 'mix' (forgot the name). Included octopus, scallops, shrimp and clams. Wife had salmon. Simply delicious. Very reasonable prices here for the quality of food. Interesting menu selections.
My favorite food choice was the appetizer, La Leche de Tigre ( I hope I spelled that correctly.). The flavors, textures and spice were worked well together, creating that perfect bite. I had the lunch special which was a great value.
Over all an enjoyable experience.
This was the fourth time I've been here. Each time I've gone with friends that really wanted to eat here. The salmon I ordered was so over cooked and dry, the server said there was nothing he could do. They offer a lot of GF choices, but most dishes have some type of dairy (cream, cheese, milk, etc.) in them that can't be changed or on them (leaving this off, with no substitution). All desserts are made with dairy, nothing is dairy free.
We go around the Bay Area trying different Peruvian Restaurants and we say this one was Very Pleasant. The Idea of having it Buffet Style so there would be so many Choices to choose from is Excellent. My ONLY Disappointment was that they did not have "CAUCAU"... :( It was worth the 83 miles we Travel to get there and we will definitely be going back! The Service Is 6 STAR!
A little loud because a band was playing, but it added to the experience.
The food is so vibrant, the staff is super friendly, & the ambiance is lovely. We love coming here!
We’ve been going to La Huaca for a few years. I think it is going downhill. While the music on Friday night was nice and at an appropriate volume for the closeness of the musicians, the service seemed unskilled and the food quality and quantity was not what we have come to expect.
We nearly always get the full size mixte ceviche, but this time the amount of seafood was significantly less than in the past - 2 instead of 4 prawns, raggedy bits of fish instead of nice chunks only a few pieces of squid and no octopus. Another dish one of our party orders regularly was about ⅔ of what is previously served. The blue cheese salad I often order had too much red onion, as though it was a major part of the salad rather than a little color for the eyes and palate. The service has typically been excellent, especially with servers like Octavio. The service seemed rushed (even though the restaurant was far from full) and forgetful. The rolls came late and I had to remind him about the glass of wine I ordered. We may try it one more time, but this visit was a real come down from the past.
So glad we made reservations for this awesome restaurant. Every other table was filled at just 6:00. Our appetizers were plentiful and delicious. We shared tastes of the main dishes and agreed that the food was prepared with attention to taste as well as presentation. Loved the four-dessert sampler tray! Our host and wait person were friendly and attentive. Our wait person went out of her way to see that we were having a great time. We plan to visit again soon!!
We were celebrating a late valentines dinner. Everything was fantastic and the extra touch of presenting the ladies with a red rose was perfect. We will be back again.
One of the best restaurants in the Geater Sacramento are
I didn't like any of the food, I was expecting to have a good choice of Peruvian food, but my wife and I were very disappointed.
Don’t eat here.
We were first few people getting to the restaurant. They weren't even ready for us nor their printed menu. We were told that the menu is fixed and a set price. We were surprise and wish it was posted on opentable where we had make the reservation.
At that time, we didn't felt like driving around and look for another place, especially on a Valentine's night, so we stayed. The waiter was not sure of what would be included in our fixed price. Then the whole time our drinks was not offer for refill. We were not offer the flower until at the end of our meal whereas every other tables were greeted by the host and handed the lady the flower. The main course was better compare to the apperizer and dessert. For $44 it was not worth the experience.
Great experience. Delicious food, fair prices, safe area in town, kind staff, timely service, clean and comfortable atmosphere. Satisfied customer overall.
Food was so good! I need to go back to try more things on the menu! Staff was very friendly.
Had a delicious meal from appetizers to entrees. Lovely people working there, checked back just often enough to make sure every was fine. Would definitely go back.
We went for a family birthday dinner and enjoyed broad menu selections ... especially cerviches, good food, nice ambiance, good live music, very attentive wait staff for a very pleasant evening.
We went there for our anniversary. The waiter was very helpful with the menu and a Peruvian white wine. We had the three different styles of ceviche and it was delicious. I had Peruvian paella and it too was fabulous.
Service: Was terrible, it was exceptionally difficult to call our server over to the table, he was aloof, except when it came time to fill out the check... he was there to chat and smile and joke. When we got there I wanted water for the whole table, took 8 mins just to get someones attention. Wanted refills on our drinks, took 12 mins to get ANYONE over to us . They came without straws, took 10 mins to get them. Dessert came to the table, but all of our silverware was taken with our dinner plates. Took 5 mins to get him over to the table to ask for spoons. Uhg, THIS WAS WORST SERVICE I HAVE EVER HAD, I have never experienced ANYTHING like it in my 30+ years of dining out.
My Food: The rice was good but the main dish was DRY and seriously under seasoned. I ended up dumping what was left from our civeche appetizer over it just to make it palatable. The civeche was good but not overwhelmingly so. Dessert was fantastic, the I highly recommend the specialty ice cream.
Atmosphere: Was nice, we were there a night with live music and it was pleasant. The lighting was perfect as it created intimacy and the place was clean.
The bill for the four of us was very high for the level of service and food we received. I WILL NEVER BE GOING BACK.
Excellent cuisine, staff was very accommodating for our needs. Will visit again .
La Huaca is a recent discovery of ours the flavors are unlike any other cuisine. We have been enjoying introducing our friends & family to Peruvian Cuisine. Their signature drink the Pisco Sour is a must try. Also, anything that comes with a corn cake—it’s wonderful!
