La Griglia - Houston Ratings and Reviews
Everything was very good. I requested, when I made the reservation, a quiet table as my wife is hearing impaired. We were seated in the middle of the dining room where the noise volume was extremely high. I needed to raise my voice for my wife to hear me, and she was wearing her hearing aids.
We will go back, hopefully next time it will be in a quieter location.
We love La Griglia. It is out “go To” when we need terrific food without a wait. We are SO glad to see that Craig is back! Every bit of service is outstanding. The manager always “manages” to say hello even when he is crazy busy. The pizza is fantastic and the desserts are the best in town.
We were seated in a timely manner at a table we liked. Our servers were excellent as was the food. Attention and timing was on spot. We have been dining here since moving tho Houston 12 years ago and it is a neighborhood favorite. Enjoyed a nice evening with an out of town friend.
First time in this restaurant to celebrate my wife's Birthday. Food was good but service was not really attentive. Our second drinks did not arrive for a good 15 min. and we had to catch a random server for a reminder. Before we left, I had a little talk to the on-duty manager about the situation.
On a whim place to eat. We were both very hungry and got seated very quick and were able to order apps that came out very quick. Tomato basil soup was superb and would order again. Needed spice for everything... like good food but I’m just used to more spice in my food. Will return but with red pepper or siracha.
Met another couple who had never been before and I think they were both underwhelmed by the entrees they chose. At this price point, the entire menu should be top notch. I had to ask for a napkin twice before I received one (was sat at a table for 4 but only 3 napkins). Drink orders were taken by someone who was not our waiter and they came very quickly after we sat down. Our waiter then took over 30 minutes before we ordered our food (we had to tell him that we were ready to order). He really ruined the overall experience for all of us. Told us no recommendations other than the daily off menu specials and never really checked in with us to see how things tasted after we got our food. This will likely be our last time going here as there are better choices for less cost.
We go here every couple months, always order a roasted chicken & salmon. Taste & portions have gotten smaller & not as tasty. Chicken dry & the roast veggies that come with salmon are now a broccoli & maybe 1 carrot. They do have the best chocolate cake in Houston, IMO.. but the portions have gotten smaller overall & I see the food quality going down. :-(
Service was poor. They were nice and allowed us to pick our own table. We expected that they’d clean the table before seating us since the previous patrons had just left, but they didn’t. The head waiter or manager brought a drinks menu at ice time we asked that the table be cleaned, but he seemed annoyed that we asked. He said someone would come to do that and walked away. A gentleman came later with a cloth napkin and wiped the table, but the napkin did not absorb or wiped all of the water/liquids from the previous diners. The food was ok, neither great nor authentic.
Impromptu birthday celebration - requested and were seated at a round table. Good service - attentive without being intrusive. Food was lovely, as always, cocktails hit the mark and extensive wine list had a bottle for every taste and budget.
Restuarant was energetic and occasionally a little loud for conversation.
This one thing really gets me - I paid the bill in cash and to my surprise I did not receive change (the coins), plus the restaurant rounded in their favor. The bill was $70.57, I paid $90 and received $19 back. I queried as to where the $.43 was and the manager said they don’t keep change at the restaurant. After I mentioned that they should round in the customers favor, he did offer to go find the $.43. It’s is not the amount of money, but the principle of the matter.
