Service was good, food was delicious. Restaurant is gorgeous! We did have an issue with heat on during a hot summer day. The mgr tried and tried to turn it off, so unfortunately we were sweating the whole dining experience ! He returned with 3 glasses of champagne to cool us off, as an apology. He should have left the bottle at the table but for some reason buy didn’t which was odd. Didn’t feel comped enough. It was our friend’s bday and to top things off, waiter brought her a mango sorbet as her bday dessert. But when we paid for our check, the waiter charged us for it. We never asked for it! After dealing with the heat problem that definitely but a damper on the night and mood we should have received, at minimum, a free entree. Instead the mgr gave us his card. He was super sweet but wish there was better service for the inconvenience. Would I go back? Sure. Won’t recommend this French restaurant to friends though.

Excellent food. Decent interior. Had a dinner with my wife. Escargot, steak Tartare- all delicious french classics. Broiled Branzino is a must have - just be prepared it’s a whole fish with bones out.

We went for lunch and had a reservation for 11:30 -their website said they opened at 11. When we got there, the host said their opening time had changed to 12 and we were notified. I had made the reservation and was not notified. Another issue: I had searched for ADA compliant restaurants, and they were, but not very well. Neither the doors to enter the restaurant or the door to the toilet had the button to push so it would automatically open. I am using a walker and the toilet door was heavy. The food and service were good but these two issues make me not want to return.

Visited for a late lunch and appreciated the calm atmosphere, as it was quiet past 2 PM. The ambiance was inviting and relaxed. I ordered the steak and eggs, and the steak was cooked exactly to my preference. I also tried the wagyu burger, which was flavorful and well-executed. The French Martini was a highlight—fruity, refreshing, and perfect for the warm day. The head chef came by for a brief chat after our meal. Overall service was excellent and food was great.

The restaurant is beautiful and the meals were very good. We were disappointed in the cheese and charcuterie for the value. We’ve eaten at other high end restaurants where the boards have more portions and larger variety. We were also disappointed that there was no gluten free bread or crackers to go with the boards. In this day and age, a minimum of gluten free crackers is easily accommodated.

First off, I arrived early and planned to grab a drink at the bar. With almost 30 minutes to wait for my friend, I only had a drink for 10 of those minutes because the service was so slow at the bar, and it took forever for the bartender to finally take my order. (Note that there were plenty of open stools at the bar, and it was not terribly crowded.) Once seated, we were at a two-top, which was far too small to accommodate anything beyond drinks. This made the entire experience rather awkward and uncomfortable to say the least. We started with glasses of Rose and Sancerre, the Shrimp and the Fromage Board. The 4 shrimp were good, and a decent size. The cheese was fine, very small portions, but the bread served with it was so tough that it almost couldn't be torn apart. Having to man-handle the entire loaf to tear off a piece was unappetizing and awkward. (There's that word again!) My friend had the Steak Frites with the Flat Iron Steak, and I had the Seared Scallops. The steak was ordered medium-well but came out medium rare. My friend barely touched the steak that was too red for her to eat. Unfortunately, our server, who was nice enough, never bothered to stop by and ask us how our food was. My scallops were fine, but rather small. We also shared the Smoked Gouda Mac & Cheese, and we ended with the Creme Brulee which was quite good, but it didn't make up for the entire meal. Overall, it was a somewhat disappointing experience for what was supposed to be a birthday celebration. I'm not sure I would return other than for a discounted experience during Happy Hour, as that seems to be more in line with the experience and value that this restaurant is capable of.

This was the first time we dined at La Grande Boucherie (LGB). We picked it as a celebration of our anniversary and for the French cuisine. We enjoyed the friendly, efficient service, the quality ingredients, and the care the kitchen put into preparing our meals (steak frites and broiled Branzino). We especially enjoyed the chilled Vichyssoise and Foie Gras Torchon. The menu is typical of a bistro but in my opinion leans a little too heavy on beef, with typical offerings supplemented with Wagyu both from the US and Japan. (I get it, it’s part of the concept and a differentiator.) Those offerings perhaps come at the expense of not having other delicious French dishes on the menu. The only other drawback is the noise level when the main level is full (we were there on a Monday and there was at least one full seating, maybe two). Still, if you are in downtown Chicago I would recommend LGB for an upscale dining experience.
