Just not very good
Really only fair and over priced for what you get. Duck breast dry . Ravioli appetizer great but three pieces only
We really enjoy French food and La Gouloue did not disappoint. The oysters were fresh and clean. I'm a traditionalist and had the steak frites prepared medium and it was served at perfect temperature. A Grand Marnier souffle was the perfect ending to a delicious meal.
The food was quite good, but it was service/wait time that somewhat brought my rating for them down. We got there for our reservation and were told that our table would be ready in a couple minutes. We were escorted to the back room (no heat on in the winter) and asked to wait there. It took about 20 minutes before we were seated. From there, it then took another nearly 15 minutes before we were able to place a drink order. We had to ask for some bread for the table because it was 45 minutes past our reservation time and we were starving...we were given the ends of a roll.
The hosts/managers were quite nice in coming by and chatting with us (we didn't complain about the experience, so they were just doing this to be nice in general) and as I said the food was quite good. It was a bit loud but surprisingly less than you would think considering the front area of the restaurant is smaller. Perhaps we just had a bad night where they were understaffed and so tables were taking longer to get through their meals.
Great service food good-very good.
Ambience great - lovely luncheon.
This is my favorite restaurant. Everything about it is perfect.
I will preface this by saying the food is amazing! I’ve not had a bad meal here.
However, the service was sub par. We sat for at least 25 minutes, after being seated, waiting for a server to come take our drink order.
Delicious dinner with great service.
I’ll come back.
As good as ever! Nice to have them back. Excellent food and apppropriate value.
One of the best meals ever. Bay scallop appetizer superb. Prime rib excellent. Noise level not great for old deaf people.
Food very disappointing: octopus starter, halibut and branzino entrees woefully overcooked.
Wine list ridiculously expensive for simple brasserie fare
We absolutely love it-- again, it's like a neighborhood Club!!
The food was AMAZING and the service was excellent..... Hope to go back soon!
Went here for New Year's Eve. The food was delicious. My wife had the duck and it was the best we've ever had. The wine list was outstanding, but they were sorely lacking in price points under $150. It definitely could use more diversity. The service seemed a bit rushed and it seemed like they did not want us sitting around enjoying the evening.
Definitely a great date-night spot, however.
One of the best New Years Eve experience we have since living here
Like stepping back in time. And like being in Paris. Food is good, atmosphere is charming and service is excellent.
Nice little French Bistro. Food was good, halibut was very tasty, wouldn’t say anything is exceptional, but the it was well prepared, and what you would pretty much expect from a French bistro restaurant. I would suggest getting the steak tar tar entree as an appetizer because the portion is not enough for a full meal. Escargot was great!
Overpriced. Uninspired. $28 burger with frozen fries. Soups likely from a bag. Worst steak I’ve ever had. Couldn’t even eat it and not a single server came by once to ask how our meal was. Wine was good at least.
Did not appreciate being led to the very back of the restaurant although making my reservation weeks before. Also was seated next to a party of ten next to a screaming baby and toddlers. The restaurant was not busy at the time either.
I had a very bad experience. They offered A burger that had caramelized onions and Gruyere cheese and homemade bud but they ended up bringing me a bun-less hamburger with one piece of tomato and one piece of lettuce. The burger was not even cooked at the right temperature and they charged me full price for a burger that I did not even order. And when I asked the waitress about the burger she said that’s all they had today but they did not say that when we were ordering it. And my husband’s steak was all fat and barely actual meat.
had dinner last saturday with friends , waiter must have been knew and every change we asked for he said couldn’t he done, wecwerecreacyvto leave when manager came over and accimodayed every change we asked for , don’t know if waiter was knew but felt he should have asked in the kitchen before saying no to our requests the food was good but we live locally and there are too many other restaurants on the neighborhood that are much more accommodating and welcoming with food as good if not better , will not return
The service was awful ! The people to our right as well as in our left also noted that the service was terrible ! We asked for the manager and when he came over all he said was “ it’s the holidays” which is certainly not acceptable - the salmon was overcooked and dry and had to be sent back - dirty dishes from prior courses sat on the table requiring three requests to remove them and when we asked for chocolate sauce for our profiteroles it took forever ! I know I’m these times we live in these seem like minor inconveniences but at these prices they should get it right ! I have been going here for many years starting from the original WHEN CRAIG POGSON WAS HERE these issues never came up - I will NOT return !!!
Another wonderful lunch. I just love coming back here. The food and service are wonderful. If there is any opportunity to make it even better, I would remove a few tables from the front room. You are sitting just a tad too close to your neighbors on left and right sides. Until next time....Barney
Excellent food and atmosphere
Festive and elegant
Ambiance and food were great but service was much too slow; hard to catch a waiter
The most enjoyable French brasserie in Manhattan. Professional and yet friendly service and bonne nourriture..
Food was marginal. Wait staff was on the rude side. Loud with teenage birthday parties taking place.
Does not have the charm and sophistication as the original location did.
Feels a bit commercialized now unfortunately.
Duck and halibut were fantastic. Great wine list.
Competition is stiff for dining in NY. We ate at La Goulue yeats ago in its first location. We were so excited to go there again. Unfortunately it’s not as good. We were seated near the door so cold air blew on us the whole time. The staff and management should pay closer attention to the door. The food was not as delicious as it had been. Very very little flavor in the chicken breasts.
This meal was a comedy of errors. At every course, at least one meal was forgotten. So 4 of us were served starters and the 5th starter never came. Then our entrees were served and, again, 4 entrees were served and the 5th entree showed up as the rest of us were finishing. The waitress never came by to check on us until we caught her eye and made a questioning gesture. She came by and saw the empty place setting and went to check. It didn’t make the entree or starter come any faster, though.
Then, when we were leaving and getting our coats, they lost one coat and we had to go down to the basement to find it. But more troubling was the fact that the coat check woman gave us 4 shopping bags from Bergdorf Goodman which weren’t ours! My husband took them because we arrived separately and he assumed I had gone Christmas shopping before dinner. I was already outside when he came out with 4 shopping bags! Of course we returned them immediately, but it was the capper to a crazy evening at La Goulue. Even crazier - we will go back because on a good night, this place is great.
We love Goulue, but service was a bit off this time, everything else was fine, and we had a nice table. Food/wine all good. Just again the service was not quite as good as it should be. But we'll be back ! It happens every once in a while that something is off. We understand. Thank you
Was lovely! Even better than the previous location they had years ago. Excellent food- and not TOO HEAVY of food, was just right (which is always nice to have an excellent medium meal)! I am an extremely selectively eater living in Europe and Nyc and this restaurant is one of my all time favorites. Just a fresh Fantastic quality upscale brassiere. A classic. New York’s best for sure.
Trendy restaurant. Pretty decor. Dark wood walls. Noisy. Fun. Good service. Very busy. Casual. Only the older people had jackets on. Would definitely go again.
Though we were 30 minutes late (traffic) we were seated immediately! Service, considering that there was only one waiter for the entire back room was really quite good! The roast chicken was cooked perfectly, though attractively presented, a little difficult to eat out of a small deep copper dish. The Pinot Noir was tasty.
We waited 40 minutes and never got seated ... we left and will not be going back. We frequented this establishment for years ... even as far back as when they were on Madison Avenue ...Shame on them for making patrons wait so long to be seated.
Fantastic food and service. The location is also perfect if you want to roam around 5th Ave and/or Madison Ave shopping.
This is my near favorite UES restaurant. The food is superb as every item on the menu is good. The staff was very friendly and professional. My compliments to the management team and the entire staff. They do a wonderful job and I hope this restaurant keeps up the great work. God bless them,.
Our favorite restaurant in NYC, never disappoints, always superb food and service.
Great lively atmosphere- waitress wasn’t so smart. My risotto with delicious truffles was overcooked however everything else was wonderful. We will give it another try.
Nice interior decoration but the food and service was so disappointing! Bread as hard as a rock, butter still frozen (not from the fridge but the freezer, escargot dry and rubbery, sauces watered down, service that rushes you and asks you to order everything all at once, no service to find to ask for even a small plate when needed, wine served after food came, no one to greet at the door to accept the reservation, and didn’t offer to take coat at door. This place used to have a good reputation... what happened? Must be poor management and a terrible cook!
