Service was very friendly but very slow. The highly recommended NY Strip steak was probably the worst cut of meat I have had in a restaurant. The prices are high for the quality of food.
730 PM reservation seated at 840pm . Very crowded and overbooked. Meal service slow . Finished after 10pm. Good food very tight tables.
I've been to La Gare several times and have yet to be disappointed. The food was delicious and the service attentive yet non-intrusive. My dining companion enjoyed the experience, but commented that she was surprised that such a nice restaurant would serve rock-hard butter and cold bread. That's actually a very good point. That small attention to detail would have brought my review up to outstanding.
Everything was superb we went here for our anniversary and it couldn't have been any better from food and service and value.
We enjoyed ourselves tremendously. Our Château Briand for two was cooked to our request and we loved the béarnaise sauce. We had a fabulous dinner.
Absolutely wonderful Thanksgiving dinner, can’t be beat. Our table had the traditional turkey dinner, the prime rib and the salmon, all were really excellent! The restaurant was busy but there was no rushed feeling about it and every bite was delicious!
This restaurant is an important place to my husband and I. It's charm and food quality is like a little piece of heaven, we appreciate all the staff does in their preparation, demeanor and timing to create such a special place.
Another return visit to La Gare and looked forward to the Wellington...one of the few restaurants that still serve this classic and hold true to what should be in a Wellington. This time, although ordered medium it came near well-done without a hint of red and the pastry covering was not fully done and somewhat soggy. Because this place almost always delivers reliable well-prepared dishes, I am going to put it as an off-night in the kitchen. I am going to also find fault with the chocolate mousse. It was a milk chocolate, rather than bitter-sweet and was over-beaten to where it became more ganache-like. Perhaps, their version, and that is their right, but I did not like it. The meal was most certainly edible; just not memorable. The service was good.
We enjoyed our meal. I had sweet breads, which are not often found on restaurant menus. They were delicious. My husband says we will go back, which is unusual for a restaurant not close to home.
Jacquie is the owner (working owner) and works very hard to ensure every guest is taken care of. My husband and I have been to La Gare at least 50 times over the past several years and they NEVER disappoint. Food is amazing as is the service and ambiance. Make time to go- you won’t be sorry!! And by the way, where else can you get phenomenal beef Wellington these days???
We've been going for years when we lived nearby. Now we are 2-3 hours away. Whenever we come to Santa Rosa we make it one of our stops for exceptional dinning.
Loved this cozy restaurant. We got soup and salad with our meal and everything was top notch. For the finale we had cherries jubilee prepared tableside. Can’t wait to go again.
Staff is very attentive, not overwhelming, you will get a 5star service. The bread, soup, salade and main course is perfect as size, presentation and quality. You will not be disappointed.
Not sure why this restaurant is still in business. While the service was okay the food was not. I ordered
the Coq au Vin as it's one of my favorite French dishes. However, the version at La Gare was terrible. The meat should not require a serrated steak knife to remove it, but theirs did. The sauce was more like a thick shiny glaze that was a super dark brown and did nothing to enhance the flavor of the chicken. And to top it
off the breast was just a shade away from dry.
I've had Coq au Vin in numerous restaurants, including in France, and I make it home; but believe me this
was the worst version I've ever had. Needless to say I will not be returning to La Gare.
Prime rib special dinner very reasonable but meat was tough and not tasty. Companions salmon was very good. Friendly, (not overly) attentive service.
Always a very nice place to celebrate a Birthday. My mom had a wonderful time. Thank you.
A most enjoyable meal for each of the four of us. Good wine list. Very good service. Not too noisy. Overall, very good. Will definitely return when we are next in Santa Rosa.
Had a fabulous dinner !
Prawns smelled and tasted fishy. Lamb wasn’t as flavorful as in the past.
We had the prime rib which was cooked perfectly and was very tasty. The Wed $30.00 set menu was definitely worth the value.
La Gare is one of the truly iconic, family-owned restaurants in Santa Rosa. Jackie is a wonderful host and John, Mark and the service team are all exceptional.
Had a girls weekend in Santa Rosa and this restaurant was right up the street from our hotel. We were all very pleased with an old school restaurant in a great way, the service was impeccable had the best waiter very informative about the food and had a wonderful personality. Would recommend this restaurant to anyone for who is visiting the wine country.
Took my wife here for her birthday. Good choice on the menu, plus some nice wines. Our waiter, Mark, was very good and was very attentive. He said he has been there 32 years. We had not gone to La Gare for mane years, but will keep it on our list for special occasions.
We went to celebrate a birthday and the food was great. Wine was also reasonable and complimented our food very well. Service was excellent by waiter, host and it was very clean.
Excellent well trained wait staff. I was impressed by all the staff remaining at the end of the night to help set up the tables for the following day. And cheerful willingness to recommend a nearby bar to me after dinner.
This might be the worst restaurant I've ever eaten in. The food was tasteless and tastelessly served. I had a spanokopita - the only vegetarian thing on the menu - that was unrecognizable as food. Truly disgusting.
Four of us had soup to start - but mine arrived 20 minutes after the others. huh? My husband had fish that was just okay. Don't go there.
Le Gare was disappointing. When we first arrived there was no one to greet us and people were waiting to be served in the wine bar for almost five minutes. While the servers were very friendly and helpful, the food came slowly. The food itself was tired and uninspired. The tournedos was tenderized to the point of being mealy and the rack of lamb was very plain for the price. The sides were basic and salty. Was not what we were expecting for the price.
Great restaurant. My only suggestion would be that the bathrooms are in desperate need of remodeling.
Lovely restaurant, impeccable service and delicious meals. Perfect for a special occasion.
Excellent, classic food and exceptional service. Highly recommended. Get a side of pepper sauce with any steak! Escargots also serves classically in the shells. Rad.
The prime rib was tough and the baked potato was cold.
Great food. Great service. A good example of French/Swiss cuisine in Sonoma County.
They now have a special on Wednesdays for Prime Rib dinner. The price was moderate. But the dinner was marginal. The cut of meat was not very tender and not very tasty . It was more like a regular roast beef, and not really "prime". They always serve soup and salad first, and that is a plus.
Always excellent food and service. Highly recommend.
Awesome restaurant. Only negative is the lack of a full bar. It offers only beer & wine. Otherwise it’s easily one of the best in a town with a lot of very good restaurants.
Great food and service. Had the chateaubriand for two. Delicious.
Looking on Trip Advisor we found a close five star rating restaurant for our 10th anniversary. I clicked on the tab and we had reservations for the following night without any problem. When we arrived the place was low lighted and subdues and the hostess was polite as she lead us to the table. She told us the specials and soon came our waiter with the menus and telling us the specials as well. When the leak soup came, I was unable to have it as it had cream in it and he took it back and brought me a tomato bisque which was very good. It did take some time for this to arrive, however, and my husband was done with his before I got mine. He assured me the rest of the meal had no milk in it. The wine poured was not good and they switched it out with another kind suitable to our taste. They gave us a small anniversary dessert to share. All in all it was a good evening.
We love going there. David, our waiter, made birthday celebration very special.
Our server Davis was awesome and the ambience in the restaurant was great. My husband had the frog legs and said they were good but small. Table side Caesar was really good.
We hosted a dinner with old friends and had an excellent experience. Had not been there for some time but it remains a top choice of ours.
