Excellent service by the staff. Everyone from the hostess to the waiter to the bus staff.!!!!
My friends and I celebrated my sister’s 29th birthday at La Gare on Friday. We received excellent service and the food was incredible! I ordered the salmon and every bite was absolutely delicious. My friends ordered the mushroom chicken and they raved about it! My only regret was not ordering my own créme brûlée because I tried a bite of my friend’s, and it was mouth watering good! The best I’ve ever had! I love La Gare for its timeless elegance and delicious French cuisine. I so look forward to going back!
I have been going to La Gare almost since it opened. It has always been a pleasure to go there.
Food was awesome: NY Steak was perfectly prepared and the sauce, classic Bernaise, the lobster tail was huge and delicate also perfectly cooked. We started with escargot and dinner came with the perfect size cup of soup and a butter leaf salad. The service was perfect - very in tune with our dining preferences. Very professional. The owner was readily available and stopping at tables and talking to patrons like everyone there was part of her family, including us.
Everything was excellent. The only complaint we were seated too close to large loud parties.
Excellent as always. Keith, our server, did a superb job. Thanks
Recently celebrated our anniversary at LeGare, and they made us feel very special with their anniversary acknowledgments. Service is superb, food is fabulous, and the atmosphere is warm and inviting. We had the nicest evening!! Thank you for making our milestone so special.
Great service & good! Been there a few times....would recommend.
I have lived in Sonoma County for over 20 years and have wanted to come here and finally did. Walked in with reservations and hostess was friendly and sweet and made you feel so welcome and knowledgeable about all the food. I'd seen pictures of the Marco Polo Chicken, and it looked amazing, so I knew that's what I was going to order ahead of time. Was told it was one of the customer favs. All the waiters were great and came around to refill glasses, etc. Brought a bread basket which we enjoyed and ate more than we wanted because we were hungry and food coming out of kitchen was slow. Potato Leek soup was very bland. Similar to something out of a Cambell's can. Salad was okay. Marco Polo chicken was about a 3 1/2 star. Honestly tasted like a Smart Ones meal to me with overcooked chicken. Hubby sampled and liked it more than I did. He ordered the two fillets and they were so tiny and he was disappointed in the taste. All in all, was a good experience, but food has room for improvement.
70 th birthday
Very nice family owned restaurant. Jackie and her staff were wonderful. The food was delish. I would highly recommend this place.
This restaurant is our favorite, it never disappoints! The food is spot on the prices are fair the service is outstanding it’s my favorite restaurant to go you won’t be sorry
La Gare is always our go to restaurant for any special occasion
Great meal again
Sometimes I forget about this place but it was packed on Saturday night
Our waiter Tim gave great service. Food was awesome. A bit noisy as the night progressed.
Truly enjoyed the personalized service and attention to food quality at this fine establishment.
I have been to La Gare several times and have never been disappointed. Had the halibut and it was excellent!
The best halibut on the planet. We come here for special occasions and we’re never been disappointed
Our favorite restaurant in Sonoma County. We have eaten here several times and the food has always been perfect.
The owners and wait staff are really nice people and do an excellent job.
Love it here!
We love going here for special occasions. Only down side was that I forgot my leftovers!
La Gare was PERFECTION. It was nestled in downtown Santa Rosa, near plenty of parking lots so getting to it was no problem. I was greeted right away and told the hostess would help us as soon as possible. She quickly found our reservation and congratulated us on our anniversary! Everyone who helped us that night were incredibly sweet and helpful! I also loved that this is a traditional French restaurant, where they bring you soup and salad with your meal! One of the other things I loved about this place is that I knew it was really legit French food, as the head chef came out at some point and was interacting with patrons in French.
Once we were seated, our hostess told us some of the specials for the night and then told us our waiter's name (John). We were brought waters and a bread basket by our waiter and asked if we wanted anything to drink. The food menu had plenty of traditional French fare (escargot, frogs legs, rack of lamb, etc). The wine list also had plenty of options, but not exhaustively extensive (which I personally prefer, so I can actually make a decision quickly!) Since they have a wine bar, it doesn't surprise me that their wine options were good. We got a bottle of cabernet sauvignon (Kendall Jackson). The wine was great with our meal.
We ordered the crab cakes for our appetizers, which was brought out to us fairly quickly! The sauce was great with the dungeness crab and we loved the lumps of crab meat it went with too. We were then served the soup for the evening (corn chowder), which my husband surprisingly enjoyed as he doesn't normally like soups. The salad was a little gems number with their signature house dressing (also very tasty!)
The stars of the meal were our entrees. My husband got the most amazing rack of lamb with a rosemary reduction he wanted to put on everything! I got the beef wellington, with the most tender filet. Both entrees were served with an array of vegetables and crispy potatoes.
Would definitely come back! Amazing
Traveling from Pennsylvania, hoping to find a fine dining restaurant for a birthday dinner. Could not have made a better choice. She loved everything and made our evening. She wants to go back.
Excellent waiter who managed the pace of the.meal, answered all questions. He also noted it was q birthday (unannounced) and quietly put a candle in her desert.
Loved it. Celebrating a birthday and they took great care of us. We will go again.
Our waiter Mark was great! Chateau Briand was great as well!
I think the quality of the food and service was really nice. Ths plating of the main course was a little underwhelming, the dinner plates are kind of small and don’t showcase the main ingredient, which in my case was the halibut and seemed kind of a side note.
I enjoyed my time. Beautiful music. Good food. Would like more vegetarian options.
Everything was amazing: food, service, atmosphere, WOW!!! Great experience. We were engaged there Feb. 14, 1985
Outstanding! I found this place purely by random on OpenTable as we were staying at the Doubletree hotel in Sonoma. We were there with friends for our Wedding Anniversary meal. The food was phenomenal! Great server and beneficial that you can take your own wine (was $15 corkage). Would definitely go again if we’re in town!
Wonderful meal this is truely dining not jus tout to dinner
Food was pedestrian, at best. Quiche arrived that was undoubtedly warmed in a microwave (based on the rubbery crust); vegetables generally boiled into oblivion. Pork cutlets in their special didn't seem so. Crème brulee dessert was good. On the more positive side, service and staff were attentive. Based on the food, could not recommend.
Wonderful food and excellent service in a quiet setting.
Great time and meal as usual. Highly recommend this to those who never ate there!
Dinner for 2 for my fiancé’s birthday and was quite impressed. Food and customer service was outstanding. We’ll be back again for sure.
I can't recommend this restaurant to anyone. The Caesar salad was inedible because of too much raw garlic and lemon juice. The chicken was tough and like chewing paper. The dessert was a shadow of what it should have been.
Been going here 35 years, never disappoints. Very pleasant atmosphere, great service and food!
The service is top notch starting with the hostess seating you. She is so friendly and very caring, talking to you as if your an old friend. The Caesar salad made table side is to die for. Everything is consistently good, can’t beat it.
The food and the service were very good. I would recommend the veal.
We loved it. This was the first restaurant we went to when we were looking for a place to stay in the area and made us feel that Santa Rosa must be a god choice. Another couple suggested another French restaurant. We have been to that one and did like it, but our second trip to La Gare this week reaffirmed our initial impression. It must be a romantic spot, because one fellow proposed on his knees to his girl friend that night. This was greeted with applause. The food was great and the service felt personal. Not particularly pricey.
La Gare has maintained its European charm, good service, delicious food, and reasonable pricing for four decades. It's one of my favorite restaurants for celebrating birthdays, anniversaries, etc.
The food was old school maybe good or for old folks. Our appetizer was wonderful a crab cake in a lemon sauce. I had the beef wellington the meat was cooked ok but the liver pate was poor quality tasted awful and the vegetable were soggy and the potatoes were fried not like good pan fried like thrown in a deep fryer. They offer soup and salad with all meals but my cesar was an extra $20 and it was terrible and no one said when you didn't choose the house salad that it would be an extra charge. My white wine was room temperature, gross. My husband had a steak entrée and it was cooked ok but flavorless with the same crappy potatoes and soggy squash. I will not visit again the wait staff was very nice. I didn't complain while I was there because I believe that the restaurant caters to the people who have been going there for years not keeping up with the times.
