We were in Santa Rosa fora seminar last weekend and had the pleasure of meeting Jackie the owner. We felt like we were being brought in to her house. Notice some of the Swiss paintings and decor and quickly surmised it’s Swiss - French inspired. Jackie was kind enough to share her family’s story and restaurant history. Entire staff are super attentive and accommodating. Our server Alex was superb. At the time i was ready to order i was still down to 3-4 items on the menu - had the Beef Wellington - superb. My wife had the fresh Halibut with shrimp and beurre blanc. Excellent wine list , great service. Next time in we’re doing Chateaubriand. Thanks Jackie !
The food was excellent. The portions were more than we could eat. Our waiter John was very good and friendly. The only thing lacking was the fact that you only have beer and wine, and since I don't care for either I missed my cocktail before dinner. We came there because I was given a gift certificate for my birthday, but to be honest, probably will not be my first choice to come back. Has nothing to do with the food or service, because they were great!
Our server was so personable and I really loved the table-side Caesar salad. I have Celiacs so I am so happy to find a french restaurant that knows how to handle me!
Hadn't been here in years...not sure why we waited so long to go back. Fabulous food...can't beat the french onion soup, escargots and frog legs! We were there on Mother's Day, so it was very busy, but we weren't rushed at all, and the service and food was top notch. Can't wait to go back more often!
Superb service on busy Mother's Day. Excellent food.
My Mother and Aunt were so happy that we brought them to La Gare for an early Mother’s Day dinner. The service was outstanding! My New York steak with the peppercorn sauce was excellent! My husband thought the Chicken Marco Polo was delicious!
Sadly I didn’t enjoy my dinner. The soup was bland, the sole almondine smelled fishy and didn’t appear to be fresh. Disappointed as I have enjoyed La Gare in the past.
The food is always amazing at La Gare. I’ve been going here since I was a little girl. This particular night they seemed to be low on staff so the service was slow.
La Gare never disappoints. Food is always good and the atmosphere is always pleasant. Overall an excellent experience.
We had a wonderful time celebrating our out-of-town relatives 70th birthday. We requested a quiet corner and they came through with flying colors. The food was amazing our waiter was personable and engaging and helpful. There’s no place better to celebrate a special occasion!
Found this this gem by chance on Open Table. Boyfriend was French-reluctant but decided to give it a try. So glad we did! Greeted by the most wonderful welcoming host and the service just got better and better. I happened to mention I was GF and they immediately brought over a menu to accommodate my odd food needs. The meals were amazing. I had the halibut special and my BF had the chicken with brandy sauce. We were running a bit late for a concert so our waiter promptly brought the check and complimentary dessert - delicious!
Can't recommend highly enough and look forward to returning soon.
Another great dinner with customers. My customer said he has not had any better lamb, and I agree. It as good as it gets. Good value. Entree comes with both soup and a great salad.
Great food and service. Our server did a great job with our wine pairing questions. Great to see everyone paying attention to the guests. The gentleman who greeted and seated us was definitely not the host but filled in with a smile. Thank you!
My girlfriend and I had an amazing experience on her Birthday recently. We had the halibut special and rack of lamb. Both were cooked to perfection. Also our waiter David was awesome. We will definitely eat here again.
Delicious meal including steak, duck, and salmon. Service was excellent. Soup was a bit salty but everything else was wonderful.
La Gare feels comfortable and inviting. The food and staff are terrific.
Great restaurant for a special occasion. Service was exceptional! The food was fantastic!
Wonderful food, fresh ingredients, small menu but covered all the bases, great service.
We loved the professional and friendly service. We would return.
David the waiter is awesome. Makes dining a pleasant experience.
The servers were charming and made us feel so welcome. Food was well prepared and in generous portions. I loved my veal cordon bleu.
Awesome all the way around!!cant wait to come back.
We went to have Easter dinner at this restaurant after knowing about it for many years and visiting it long ago I was excited to take my husband for him to try the lamb
The lamb was so tough and full of gristle it was hard to cut and hard to chew my fish had a lot of good flavor but was overcooked I would have to say I can’t give it five stars it was an average meal for two people at the cost of $90 with tip . Good service by the waiter he was very nice and did a great job taking care of us very personable and friendly .
The service was attentive to our needs. Escargot is delicious and my favorite frog legs are superb. High 5 for us.
Excellent dishes, quiet and charming ambiance, and lovely experience.
Great food and service. Wide ranging menu and specials. No cocktails, but a nice wine selection very reasonably priced. We have walked past this restaurant many times, but never tried it. Very glad we tried it and went back two days after the first visit. Try La Gare, you won't be disappointed.
We had a lovely dinner on a Monday night. We started with the Caesar Salade for two which was prepared tableside and was a treat. We could even ask for extra anchovies!
We shared the Chateaubriand. The meat was cooked perfectly, the Béarnaise sauce was excellent and they were not stingy with it. The veggies all tasted great.
The Mousse au Chocolate and Meringues glacées Chantilly were delicious endings.
The service was excellent.
Absolutely superlative service. One of the best waiters we have had in a long time. Food was excellent as well.
Jackie was wonderful as always. We had a great evening.
Repas très bon, service très sympa et excellent.
La déco un peu vieille
Always dependable and quiet so that we can talk. Soup and salad is included so you don't have to decide.
I went here with a friend for restaurant week. I think that they probably pre-made a lot of the food, and for this reason, I would try it again at a different time.
We were seated right away. Although we had to wait for a minute at the hostess' stand. It is a French restaurant so I did have some moderate/high expectations, especially since there are white table clothes. Everything spells out fancy.
We were given bread and butter. I expected to have warm bread and soft butter because chain restaurants do that. We didn't get that our bread was cold and the butter was too cold to spread.
Next came the soup, which was potato leek and it was really good.
The salad was so-so because the pieces of lettuce were too big. I'm at a nice restaurant I should have nice bite-size pieces of lettuce. It was also overly dressed for my taste, but that really isn't a big deal.
Next came the entree. I ordered the filet mignon with steamed vegetables and potatoes. The filet was good. The vegetables were very mushy, British style mushy. The potatoes sadly tasted like the home fries I had for breakfast from SSU.
For dessert, we had the poached pear tart, which I wouldn't order again because pears have no taste and we could not eat the dessert with just a fork. I really needed a knife to cut through the phyllo dough. I was able to pick up the whole dessert with my fork, which really doesn't make a nice dining experience.
One of the BEST Caesar salads we’ve ever had. My husband’s order of escargot large, a true French restaurant. My Le Coc au Vin was wonderful. My husband ordered the duck a la orange with the sauce on the side since usually the sauce is so sweet but this sauce was light and tasty next he’s ordered as offered. We were lucky to have tasted the creme brûlée and the tart nice.
Our server Alex was attentive and we look forward to going again.
Though our waiter Alex had only been there just 3 months, his service and attentiveness was better than I've received in a long time. It was a busy night, "Restaurant week", the place was packed and yet he didn't miss a beat! Kudos for employing such great staff! Thank you Alex!
Thank you for being a part of the Sonoma County Restaurant week. We enjoyed our evening!
We went back to an old favorite for Restaurant Week-Le Gare. It was still delicious, nicely presented food and friendly service. Nice to know that it is still a local gem!
Two friends and I went for Sonoma County Restaurant Week. It was a good special for a full dinner including dessert. The steak was perfectly done and tender, the soup, salad and dessert were good and the wine by the glass was a great recommendation by our excellent, attentive and personable waiter. However, the tables were crowded together to accommodate as many people as possible, ( too close); therefore, the noise level was relatively high. All in all though, a good meal at a place I'd like to return.
The food was wonderful. We went for restaurant week. I wish they had a pre fix menu like they do for restaurant week all the time.
I would go every week :)
My wife and I had a great meal at La Gare. For such a nice place the prices are excellent. The service was top-notch. It's a bit cramped inside (you will be almost rubbing elbows with the tables around you) but the quality of the service and food more than make up for it. We are looking forward to going back.
Had a reservation at opening and temperature was cool at first. Food was modestly flavorful. Filet Mignon was moderately tender and not full of flavor. Service was very good. Overall not good enough an experience to warrant a return.
