We always enjoy La Frite and save it for those special occasions, like birthdays, anniversaries. The service and food are always exemplary.
Perfect food and service as always, and the casual neighborhood feel keeps me coming back. Highly recommended.
Friendly server! Good value. Dark atmosphere but was fun to sit by the window!
Very good place for a nice date night. I made a 7:30pm reservation, was seated by 7:15, and finished my first appetizer by 7:45. No push back at all about arriving early, nothing but pleasant accommodations. The Mussels were great, I have to be honest, they were not the best I've had, but they make my top five. The bread was pretty, but in my opinion; briquette is better with mussels. Also just a time but more of broth in the wine sauce mussels. I will definitely return though. My post may seemingly be negative, but trust me it's not. I and my wife enjoyed our night here, and we will with out a doubt, venture here again. Lastly this was probably the most inexpensive date night my wife and I had had in a many of date nights...... very, very affordable!
Best mussels in San Antonio!!!
Best mussels outside Brussels! Nice wine list. Interior needs upgrading. It was always funky and old. Now the tables and chairs are getting too rickety . The floors feel like you could fall through certain spots. A modest facelift would be advisable. Not to worry, I’ll go back no matter what!!!!
We have been here before and it remains one of our favorite special occasion places. It is a little expensive but we'll worth the price. Muscles are their specialty and you can get them either in appetizer or entre portions, with several sauces to choose from. There are also several meat and seafood dishes as well as a daily pre fix selection.
Awesome food- wife had the hanger steak and it was perfectly cooked and delicious. I had the mussels and they were great. Awesome frites. Duh! It’s a favorite spot.
Food and service were outstanding, as usual. The waitress picked up that it was the birthday of the man in our group an without my asking, had a birthday candle burning in his desert. We were all delightfully surprised!
It was a special day so of course I chose my favorite restaurant, La Frite. I love Belgium and France and this restaurant is as close as I can get to an actual visit to those countries. I had the escargot, Belgian endive salad and mussels in white wine, every bite a treat along with a fine Pinot Grigio a reasonable stand-in for my preferred French white burgundy. I just wish the Belgian endive salad was on the lunch menu so I could stop in during the day for a diet lunch of salad and wine.
We had a party of 6 for lunch at La Frite and we all thought it was outstanding. Several different dishes were served to the group and each one was a culinary delight. A couple of the folks who had mussels said they were just as good as what they had on Prince Edward Island. The Quiche was so light and delicious. The Pappiote special of the day was a feast for the eyes as well as the palate. Great place to get excellent food.
Great place with an intimate neighborhood vibe.
Recommend it highly.
La Frite is one of those neighborhood restaurants that is spot on with quality and service every time. The fois gras with crispy Belgian waffle and wine berry reduction sauce was as perfect as you will ever get. The abbreviated wine list hits every taste palette necessary to compliment the variety of food options.
Actually, we used to be regulars when we lived in SA. Very friendly, table was ready, and greeted within a few minutes. Asked about our 1st course, as it was an hour. One of guests food was apparently overcooked and recognized in kitchen and they were preparing another for him. Unfortunately, the three of us were just about done when his arrived. It was excellent and they did comp his. All in all, we had a relaxing evening and was glad they mentioned it and we didn’t leave unhappy...sometimes it happens, and alot of places don’t own it, or make it right! Definitely one of our most favorite places!
Always wonderful...love the mussels! My husband had the surf and turf...so delicious!
La Frite is a very nice neighborhood restaurant with good food. The service was truly excellent. We're old and sensitive to noise levels and were seat half way towards the bar so the noise bothered us some. There was crashing of bottles and normal bar levels of noise along with activity in the kitchen. I'm often surprised how European restaurants can have the same level activity with very little noise. but this is a small complaint about an otherwise very pleasant neighborhood restaurant. I definitely recommend it.
Had not been to La Frite for awhile. Still great. Moules ala basque were wonderful. The chicken in puff pastry likewise and the pear crepe dessert was great. Service was quick, attentive and knowledgeable. The only drawback is limited parking, which we solved by going fairly early. A really great place for an enjoyable, delicious meal.
The meal is always consistently excellent. Love the atmosphere and wait staff. great beer, wine, location,
What a delightful experience!! Had the mussels appetizer, grilled duck breast---mmmm ;-) Companions had 3 course meal w/mahi as entrée and one had the hanger steak, grilled to perfection. Shared a chocolate mousse for dessert! Another yummm!
It took us a couple of turns around the block to find parking. Southtown is thriving, even mid-week.
Definitely will go back and definitely recommend. Next time will try the "grand" portion of mussels!
Good, friendly staff.
Our table ordered the day's "specials", which were delicious.
Always great. Love the mussels.
LaFritte never disappoints! From the greeting by staff, food service and ambiance, it’s a delight. We are frequent customers and we continue to be wowed by the daily menus and of course..mussels and Frittes!
We plan on coming back again and again! Our young waiter was great!
Mussels we had were very good. French fries outstanding! Filet was superb. Service was top-notch, too.
Good wine list, but not too many wines by the glass. Enjoyed our evening.
Trey magnifique. The foie gras, when available, is a must get. The mussels are excellent--best I've had outside of Bruges or Normandy. Get an extra order of bread to soak up the sauce. Great Belgian beer on tap, too. The île flottante, or floating islands, was a remarkable way to end the meal, if you can pass up the creme brulee.
Went here on visit to San Antonio. Very happy with service and a large bowl of mussels with Basque sauce served with frites, Belgian style. My husband had a small bowl of the same mussels and then fried lobster that was tempura like and delicious. Very happy we ate at this great place off the Riverwalk. Worth a little walk.
Outstanding wine list - it goes well beyond cabs, merlots and chardonnays. There are some great French blend burgundys on their list. Value for the quality of food is amazing. Prix fixe menu, but we didn't take advantage of that tonight. Wonderful culinary experience. We'll be back!
Wonderful restaurant with an extremely friendly staff. They were incredibly busy this night, between valentines weekend, the TMEA conference, and a party of about 20 people there. But the staff was very attentive and polite. It took a little while to get our food since it was so busy, but it was absolutely worth it. The Bavarian-style mussels were a wonderful appetizer, and the duck was amazing. I was wary about getting it medium rare, but it was better than I could’ve ever imagined. We finished with an amazing Belgian waffle for dessert, which we were very excited they had. It’s a little expensive, but worth every penny. Also, it’s such a neat little space, and the atmosphere of casual fine dining is perfect.
By far the best restaurant in San Antonio!!! Best meal I have had since the last time I ate there.
We had a table for 12. It was excellent food and service. The only negative is that it was very hot in the restaurant. Other than that, definitely one of the best restaurants in San Antonio
If you’re looking for wonderful food and great service, La Frite is a great place to dine. It is not fussy or pretentious; the food speaks for itself.
Most overpriced meal I ever paid for
To be fair this is a review from Valentine’s Day (fixed menu service). We had an early reservation so it was not crowded when we showed up but took over 25 mins to get water, first drink at 32 min, first food at 40 mins. Very, very slow and unresponsive service. Food was good but way over priced. Paid probably more than three times what I would have expected for diner. Restaurante itself is cute on one side, very plain on the other, we were on the plain side. Overall it was ok, but there are a lot of better places around.
Wonderful welcoming neighborhood specialty restaurant. Wait staff know their way around a rich menu that encourages pairings. Can’t wait to go back.
Amazing experience. Our waitress made sure we were taken care of from app recommendations to entrees to dessert. Everything was so delicious if we live in SA this could become a regular date night dinner place.
We had the escargot for apps, duck breast and leg for entrees and the goat cheesecake and pear crepe for dessert.
Thanks for making my wife's first time to SA great with our last dinner of the weekend such a delicious and wonderful one.
Great beer and ambiance. I wanted the veal but not available but we got a complimentary dessert to make up for it. Always appreciate it. This is our third time here and by all means, get the mussels. They are a must!!!
Excellent menu & wine
Worth the time to walk over from the convention center to get out and enjoy from fresh air after a day of walking the exhibit floor. Excellent service and tasty food, with omelettes so light I was afraid it would float off the plate.
We loved the restaurant overall, price, location, service, and food. Except the Froie gras. It was good just not froie gras, my wife is French so we were expecting the traditional froid gras found in Europe. Again the appetizers was good, just not froie gras. Other than that I would recommend this place to anyone.
Great find in San Antonio!
