Five stars all the way,; food was one flavorful burst after another.
This exquisite dining at its best. Food, service, ambiance , unsurpassed
Food was very well prepared. No two bites tasted exactly the same which is Alice Waters mantra. Portions were just right, served fresh and warm. Wine was excellent. For the price, we were happy.
The service was impeccable ! My salad was drenched in dressing and the veal was chewy. My partner's ahi and salmon were excellent. I would try this restaurant again to see if it were just an "off" night.
Amazing dinner !! Alan was great! Thanks for the suggestions on dinner and other items. The birthday dessert for my friend she loved!! Thank you!!!!
Our waiter, Eric was very good. We enjoyed our time at the restaurant. I thought it would have been better not to have charged me for the Grand Marnier I ordered because it had a fruit fly in it.
It was the perfect place to celebrate our anniversary. The food, service, and total experience was excellent. Really enjoyed the complimentary dessert as well!
As always, La Foret was a delightful dining experience! We are return customers and our party of four was warmly greeted and cared for throughout our time their by the excellent wait staff. Our full party agreed that the food was delicious, and we each had chosen different meals. The chef's evening dessert specialty was meringued key lime pie, which was killer good!
It was the perfect setting for celebrating a special occasion, and the food was great.
This is a nice cosy restaurant away from the maddening crowd and one can relax in the environment and settle into a nice eve with friends and dear ones with great cuisine and wines to go with.
We visited La Foret for the first time on a Sunday evening to celebrate an anniversary. We were joined by our best man and his wife. We each ordered appetizers, main courses and desserts. Every dish was prepared perfectly with excellent seasoning, cooked to order and generous portions. Service was attentive but not intrusive. Great selection of choices....we had quail, venison, pasta dishes, soups, scallops, ahi tuna and ostrich. Including a bottle of wine and coffee...it was about $120 per person. The entire evening was a special event and perfect for anyone celebrating an occasion or just wants to enjoy a gastronomic experience.
Outstanding meal. The food was amazing, the service was perfect, and the ambiance and view from the dining room was exceptional.
Excellent service!!!! Some excellent dishes and some very good to good dishes. Appetizer, salad, & first courses were wonderful. Meat courses were very good, but did not stand out.
A quaint romantic spot...great diverse menu...superb service. A little noisy when full. Prices high but in line with what comes out of the kitchen. Not a place to go for a frequent meal...but a great spot for a special occasion.
The restaurant is a bit out of the way. The drive was easy and plenty of parking space. Waiters and waitresses are super friendly, and clearly gave out details of the dishes. The food portion is small, definitely on the expensive side, and I personally don't feel the taste lives up to the price. The restaurant, being a historic site, is well preserved and maintained. It is usually recommended for special occasions. So might as well experience it once in a life time.
We celebrated my mother-in-law‘s birthday there and our group of five had a wonderful time!
The service and food were amazing. If you go, try the shrimp appetizer, but grilled. One of the best things I have tasted in years.
Amazing food and impeccable service in a charming, relaxing atmosphere. It's our new special occasion, go-to place. Professional yet very personalized and friendly service by everyone. My husband loved his scallop appetizer and lobster ravioli. He said the sauces were unique and delicious. I chose the evening's salad special of heirloom tomatoes, arugula, and other ingredients all grown in their own garden. My chicken with mushrooms in a champagne sauce was creamy and perfect. The chick was so tender. The wines our server suggested paired beautifully. For dessert we enjoyed the Grand Marnier souffle which is a must try and a delightful and beautifully plated sample of desserts courtesy of the restaurant. They really make you feel special at La Foret. I can't wait to bring our friends and family there to show them our new secret place.
La Foret never disappoints!!! Such a lovely place and the cuisine and wine list are perfection!
Great experience on date night! An intimate , non-stuffy experience with terrific food, a charming waiter and support staff, relaxed ambiance and fun conversations with the other guests. This place is under-rated, it deserves at least one Michelin star - and this is coming from someone who has dined at three other Michelin starred restaurants, including one three star.
For the most part our dinner at La Foret was quite nice. My husband started with Artichoke Soup, which he enjoyed. I had Scallops, which were cooked perfectly, although the sauce was rather bland. For my entree I had Rack of Lamb; a good portion (which for $58 it should have been!), again cooked perfectly and a nice assortment of vegetables (more about that later). My husband ordered Ahi and requested it rare; unfortunately it was way over-cooked (I would have sent it back, after all for $45 for a piece of fish it should be cooked perfectly). We declined dessert, but since it was his birthday they brought us a lovely dessert sampler, quite a nice touch.
Now, for what could have been done better. The service was not the best. For one thing, our server, Eva, although quite nice, spoke too quickly and since she had a bit of an accent she was difficult to understand. And the service in general was a bit too slow. Of course in a high restaurant you don't want to be rushed, but then again... And when my husband ordered coffee, it was brought in a small pot, a partial cup was poured, but then the rest of the pot was taken away. Finally, last but definitely not least - Both my husband and I requested a take home box for the balance of our entrees. When I got home and unpacked them (why they felt the need to put each container into an individual bag and then the two into another bag I don't know), I discovered that they had not included our vegetables, of which there had been a sizable amount. In my box there were two small pieces of cauliflower, but no carrot, turnip, kale or potato. They chose to include one carrot and the cauliflower in my husband's box, but none of the other vegetables. I'm sorry but we paid for the whole dish and I expected to have all of the remaining items included. If it weren't for the fact that the restaurant is quite a distance from my home I would go back and demand that they give me two complete servings of vegetables. Alas.
2 reasons for poor review for our most recent dining experience - poor client experience and follow up. The dollar spent does not coincide with the dining expectation of a high end restaurant.
First, we asked the hostess for a table by the window which was un-occupied. Instead of making the accommodation for us, she went on to explain the main waitperson has too many table to handle. We asked very nicely again, and she finally seated us. She was not rude, but there was no proactive friendly courtesy. Would you want to start your dining experience this way?
Second, only three of the four dinner entrées showed up. Found out a part of the dinner ticket was burned in the kitchen and couldn't read the full ticket. While our waitperson was friendly and welcoming, she neither knew about it or checked on us until we flagged her down. To rectify the error, our dessert was complimentary on the house.
Laforet is one of our favorite restaurants. It's an upscale place and therefore we don't go as often as we would like. They have excellent food, with a fairly extensive menu of exotic fare. We highly recommend trying it at least once.
I would tell them about my last two experiences. We love the restaurant location and staff. The food has not been that great the last two times we've been there, which has been in the last two years. La Foret is very expensive and the food does not fit the price of the meal in our opinion. These sentiments are for our whole party.
We had not been to La Foret in years. It seems just the same as it always was; an upscale restaurant with unique ambiance. Service is excellent. Food is outstanding. A must go to, especially for a special occasion.
62nd Anniversary dinner with family
Been to La Foret many times for special occasions. It's a bit pricey, but the service and food are well worth it!
We have dined there before and this was no exception. Always very good. The noise was a little loud as it filled up. But overall a special place to go.
Our go to special occasion spot. Always impeccable service and wonderful gourmet food in a beautiful creek side setting. We celebrated our 32nd anniversary and were treated like newly weds.
A welcoming staff, Romantic atmosphere and quite a selection of appetizers and main courses.
We had an enjoyable evening celebrating our 33rd anniversary, with an amazing 3 hr dinner, truly European; and the staff came through with flying colors.
A bit noisy though, with other guests being a bit loud for the restaurant’s setting.
Hadn’t been to LF for several years. Tried it for birthday celebration. It was so good. We had the week’s addition entres of halibut and duck. Both delicious. Halibut cooked perfectly and duck in a wine sauce. Also had the week’s appetizer and salad. Tuna crudo and the green salad both dressed so that you were sad to see the plate empty. Service well timed. Ambiance country French romantic.
As usual, our experience at La Foret was exceptional...that's why we choose it for our special occasions. The food is always excellent, wait-staff outstanding and ambiance amazing! So glad it's back!
Always a great dining experience. My wife and my go to place for special occasions.
Excellent food and service. They were sensitive to my wife's food allergies. Made us feel very welcome to celebrate our wedding anniversary.
This was our 51st wedding anniversary celebration and it met and exceeded all of our expectations.
Our friends met us for cocktails before dinner and we enjoyed them in the garden, one of their favorite things to do. They garden used to have more seating and I wish that they would revisit that option, it is beautiful with a lovely view of the creek below.
Our server for dinner was excellent at helping us choose from the exotic menu items. They were most excellent, as were the dessert choices.
A perfect place for celebrations.
We have been dinning at La Foret for over 35 years. Consistency...the food has never disappointed. Even with John not being there the new owners have done a great job at reproducing the favorite dishes. Wonderful food-ambiance-service and overall experience is a 10.
Very crowded and the service was slower than normal. Very noisy because of the crowd. The food was excellent. A birthday treat!
Pro's - Friendly waitress, Excellent food
Con's: Waitress did not ask us for fresh pepper for our salad, salad came with cheese mixed in the salad, even though we asked for it on the side. Ordered the souffle, when it came the sauce was already on the bottom verses added when served. Coffee was asked "after" we finished the souffle, instead of before.
Hidden gem deep in Almaden! Great service.
It is one of my favorite go to places. I have never been disappointed with the food and the excellent service.
