Tiny baby steak for two people literally 1/4 lb. 33$ service charge, for what to put vegetables on a plate?
Be ready to pay 30 percent tip included even for party of 2! I wish this had been disclosed or that I can choose tip value as we had multiple mistakes but nevertheless I will come back with my hubby and more friends in the future. Jesus bless this business!
It’s a 4 course set meal at $75 per person. A little pricey for a mom and 8 year old, but we have been waiting so long for it to open back up. We usually just come for cheese and chocolate , to die for. We don’t eat the meat.
Not all cheese fondue was available but I think I found out new favorite. Bacon!!!! Sooooo good!!! We had a great day and are happy to have one of our favorite places to eat back!!!!!!!!❤️
The service was terrible. A mandatory 20% service charge was added on for us and being we had 11 people we paid almost a 200$ service charge for terrible terrible service. The lights were so dark we couldn’t see what we were cooking or if the items were even cooked.
They have re-opened and seem to be trying to make up for lost time relative to prices (yikes!). Basically, you're paying for the fact they can't have full capacity on tables. We've eaten there regularly for many many years. What used to be about $50 per person is now $75 per person, but with far fewer options.
Quality was not there. Service was pretty bad. Our server was nice... but it took about 3 hours to get through a meal and we had to repeatedly ask for simple things like drinks. It took ordering a coke about 4 times to finally get one. They don't write anything down, but don't remember what you asked for either. Not entirely his fault. Multiple people came to the table, including what appeared to be a manager. The meat tray came with an item missing. When we asked about it, we were told it was there - yet it clearly wasn't and the person who brought the tray to the table TOLD us it wasn't.
Tip: if you're going to go, ask for individual portions of meats. They do NOT want to do it this way, but they will. Trust me - it's a better move. Everyone gets what they want and gets the right amount of it. It's far easier for them to shrink portions when they're all combined on one tray.
They have a mandatory tip now - they call it a "service fee." It is added BEFORE tax.
Would I go again? No. Not worth it anymore.
We are old customers of La Fondue at Los Gatos. We have not been there for more than 18 months and noticed some changes which may be due to covid.
Menu has been simplified. not that many options as before but still good.
We feel that we got less cheese on the Cheese Fondue as in other occasions.
The waitress was average, we got a table outside and she was not coming back to check if we needed something as frequent as she should. We had to call other people more than three times because she was not around to help us with our food. The food heaters were not warming up the food as it should have been and it was because she was not setting up the warmers as it should have been.
At the end we were assigned a tip of 20% for only the two of us. Which it was "optional" but it came already assigned in our check. It was going to take longer to ask her to change it that just leaving it that way.
Overall it was a good experience but better waitress and warmer food would have been help. My wife was cold most of the time, so seating outside was not the best seating,
They should not have a fixed menus, our chocolate was horrible, and the cheese was a blob. It never melted properly and we miss that they don’t mix it in front of you. The meat quality has gone downhill... we actually didn’t even cook 3 pieces of the beef because it was solid fat!
Massively overpriced for poor quality food. The salad was drenching in balsamic dressing that none of us could eat it. The salad ingredients definitive was poor quality and lacked flavor or taste. The cheese fondue was overloaded with Emmental cheese with very little to no gruyere...guess which cheese is the cheaper one! Then the entree came which was nothing but unflavored meat for grilling! Not even salt and pepper seasoning. And frankly, I’m not paying $75 per person to just grill unseasoned meat in a cooktop grill. Then the milk chocolate fondue was super sugary. When we asked the brand of chocolate, we found it it was an American brand which are know for high sugar content. For $75 per person, they can’t even give us high quality European chocolate. Then we we asked for additional pastry puffs, they came frozen solid. We also had to get up and find some one to get us more drinks, to get us salt and pepper and ask to adjust the heat of the grill! Then there is the 20% additional service fee that is written in such small print at the bottom corner of the menu, that we couldn’t even read it! What a shock when we received the bill because, of course, none of this was explained to us until we got the bill. When we voiced our disappointment to the manger, he didn’t care and started arguing back with us. He literally said that the frozen puff pastries are supposed to be frozen. Well, these were so frozen that we couldn’t bite them. This place has nothing but low quality ingredients, mediocre service and exorbitant high prices. We will never come again!
My girlfriend and I wanted to sit-in at a Fondue placed but they are closed where we live in Sacramento. We decided to drive to La Fondue from Sacramento and stay the night in Los Gatos. I was a little worried about how our experience would be because of some of the mixed reviews but it was definitely worth the drive, as our experience surpassed our expectations.
We were seated away from people and felt very safe. Our server was friendly and attentive. I can’t remember her name but she made the experience fun and enjoyable.
The food was a bit pricey but very much worth it. We had a four course meal that started with a large salad and included cheese fondue, meat grilling, and ended with delicious chocolate fondue.
The atmosphere of the restaurant was nice. It was unique and comfortable. The servers work as a team so you can ask for help from another server without having to wait for yours. This made us feel well attended.
The only thing that I would have liked changed is the music. They play a really random playlist of songs from different genres of music and it doesn’t fit the ambience of the restaurant. The manager told me that it was an old restaurant playlist and said they’d be open to changing it. Not really a big deal overall. We will be going to La Fondue again soon.
We had a lovely dinner and our server Chloe was a delight. Made coming out to celebrate my mom’s celebration even more special.
Good small restaurant rather sympathetic in family but nothing exceptional
The good-
Our waiter was super friendly and was trying as hard as he could even though he had way too much going on.
The food tasted great! But I guess that depends on you because you cook it yourself.
The bad-
We had reserved indoor seating, when we got there we were seated at the first table, right next to the door. It was pretty cold from the wind blowing in and there were a few mosquitos buzzing around. One even landed in my water.
Our waiter was incredibly busy, he was super nice but way overworked. It took a very long time for any kind of service so we were there for almost 3 hours. They never turned our hot plate on when they brought out the fondue, when I asked someone about it she said it was just on a low setting and seemed a bit annoyed (our cheese was pretty much solid from it not being turned on). They also brought me the wrong drink which took about 15 minutes to fix. I just expected a little better service for a 200+$ meal.
Overall it wasn’t the best experience. I had been here a few times before and it was a bit better. Maybe they were just having an off day or were working with limited staff due to Covid restrictions.
We love LF, normally. Our server (Elijah) was great as was the rest of the staff. Unfortunately one of the best things about LF is the show of making the fondue, heating it, and doing the prep; and everything was made behind the scenes and brought out to us...didn’t feel like it was a welcoming experience
We have been regular guests at La Fondue for many years, well over twenty to be closer to the truth. We even held our wedding reception here. Unfortunately with the pandemic and massive closure our economy, we haven’t been able to find a this fine establishment. Tonight was a celebration of our daughters birthday coupled with the economy re-opening, it was decided to go out to dine. As always, the food was excellent and the restaurant was just as remembered it. We were disappointed to learn that our favorite cheese (the Stinking Rose) was not prepared table side. Our service throughout the evening continued to feel off ip to and including the lag between the meal and dessert (roughly 30 minutes). We had to ultimately skip dessert to handle other obligations. The bill arrived with an added surprise, an automatic gratuity of 20 % even though it was only a party of 4. It wasn’t until I asked the server that I was told about the automatic addition. I do not believe that is a proper way to go about ensuring tips mandatorily.
I understand the need for changes during covid times, but it made the experience not worth the price. Where it used to feel like an intimate experience, now fees like just any other restaurant- overpriced and rushed.
Cheese made in the back (runny and cold by the time it came to table) . Limited menu, fixed and over priced
:( Not worth it
I had an awesome time here. I came to celebrate my birthday and the service was really good and everyone was super friendly. The food was good it wasn’t anything out of this world but it was delicious. I like the fondue I just didn’t like that there was a time limit on being there. Overall it was an awesome experience and I would go again.
Ambiance, service and food were wonderful! Couldn’t have been any better! Chloe was our server, she was great at pacing and making us feel welcome and comfortable.
felt very rushed. Although it was good of our waitress to make sure we had everything we needed, she kept checking up on us every 5 minutes. It almost became a little suffocating.
Very disappointed after coming here for days. Party of 5 seated at a huge booth where we couldn’t reach one of the burners at all. Waiter said it was an interactive experience to walk around the table. For $500 I’m not walking around to dip in the cheese. Only one cheese and one chocolate pot. Ridiculous. Salads were smaller and inconsistent. Only one salad had one cherry tomorrow. 3/4 had the chef rolls. Other was missing. Seemed sloppy. Had to keep asking for water and two tiny bowls of bread for 5 people. They seemed like it was a nuisance when we asked for more. Chocolate never got warm and they didn’t stop to ask until the bill was presented. Just a waste of money and a poor experience. Won’t go back.
We always love our experience at La Fondue, and we have missed it terribly during quarantine. Our recent visit was incredible as usual with delicious food and great service. They are taking COVID precautions very seriously and have made a number of modifications for health & safety. We very much appreciated it! They also added some hard alcohol drinks to their menu, and they were soooooo tasty! Highly recommend!
So glad they’re open again! My husband and I celebrate our anniversary this past wknd. This is my all time favorite place ❤️ best fondue ever!
The food was so delicious, much needed outing! The staff was delightful!
Our waiter was excellent. The food quality was good and the cheese was awesome. However, the various sauces were entirely lackluster.
Food great, server great. Definitely not a cheap night out but I’m ready for that. What I wasn’t ready for was a 20% pre tax charge. Not a large party charge or a recommendation charge... 20% added to my bill for a party of two. I’ll certainly go back when I know I’ll spend $400 for 2 people.
Unfortunately it's always easier to ruin than to build my experience in this restaurant is remembered by one event
A staff who recommended and applied this flammable alcohol to our chocolate fondue I wish he would have stayed and tried his masterpiece which tasted like dental office mouthwash alcohol. He was either ignorant or clueless about what he was doing
I hope this is only an unlucky moment for this customer but it's enough for me to put this restaurant in forgot about it category
The MOST delicious food... a bit pricey, but worth a splurge now and then.
We come here all the time and we love it! Food and atmosphere is great
Rushed service
Not the best experience we’ve had. I’ll give them a bit of a break due to just reopening due to being closed for awhile due to COVID, but we were disappointed. La Fondue is our favorite restaurant and so we were really looking forward to going.
They didn’t have the cheese we normally get. The bread was very hard and stale. We never received our salads. The meats didn’t taste as fresh as they normally do. We didn’t have the toffee in our chocolate, it was just plain milk chocolate.
They also raised the prices quite a bit. I only had 1 glass of wine and our bill was around $230.00. I don’t mind paying that price for really great food but it wasn’t really great.
Unfortunately, this was not the experience that I remembered. This was not my first time there, but it was everyone else in my party's first time and it did not leave a very good impression. When I first got there I was put by the door when I made note that I wanted a seat inside especially because it was cold out and I had my children with me. Our main waitress was good although we hardly saw her. The second waitress that we had was not very friendly. I was especially irritated when she took our plates without us finishing our food. The price that we paid was a lot especially to have the remainder of our cheese, salads, some of our meat taken before we were done. I expected to be able to fully eat my food and not feel pressured to hand over our half eaten plates. We were told not to touch the pots because they were hot, understandably, but when it came time to pack up out chocolate we were left sitting there for about 15 minutes after we paid. I had to go find a random waiter to help us so we could leave. I do not think that the rest of the people in my party will be returning and I think it will be a while if I decide to come back. Oh, and I forgot to mention that the fire alarms inside the restaurant went off for a while during our meal. That really killed the mood.
I took this absolute babe here for dinner and we had the best time ever. Would 100% recommend!! Delicious food and a very fun time. Our service was outstanding as well.
Everything was good except for the service. It definitely felt like the B crew was training the C crew in terms of service that evening. Our server didn’t explain anything other than how to order. The check ins were non existent (the manager had to stop by and ask how we were in order to get water). Didn’t explain the dessert service. And the most frustrating part was that we were not able to get a receipt for the meal. They flat out said that their printers weren’t working so they would not be able to give us any type of receipt other than the card the server wrote our order on. We were told by a manager that they would be able to email it to us and several days later they still have yet to email that receipt.
Not too sure if I would recommend coming here amid pandemic. Pre-pandemic prices were much better with a great experience. Current prices are outrageous with a service fee built in to final bill. $75 minimum per person along with service fee Which was explained as “upping server wages” with the option to add additional gratuity. Very very expensive.
Everything was great!
Fun evening for a family birthday. Social distancing was excellent. Service was a bit slow, and the menu was limited. Always enjoy coming to La Fondue and will be back when we can!
Over the years, La Fondue has been our favorite celebration restaurant. In our latest visit, I couldn't believe some of the things that happened to us. While we liked the food overall, there were aspects of the visit that were terrible.
When we arrived, we were given this very strange "table" for a party of four. It was bar style seating out on the sidewalk with stools and no heat lamp! (it was 48 degrees outside). Pretty terrible offering for someone who had made a reservation weeks ahead of time. I asked for a different table. We had to wait 30 minutes outside in 48 degree weather for a different table. The table they ended up giving us (eventually) was good. But really they should NEVER offer that bar style seating table with no heat lamp to anyone without checking with them ahead of time.
Some of the menu changes didn't sit well with us. First of all, they require you to order the four course meal now. Also, they said you HAVE to pick one cheese fondue for the whole table of 4. Since we had two burners, and different tastes among the four of us, I didn't understand that requirement. After asking a couple more times, they agreed to let us have two different types of cheese fondue.
Also, they put on the menu in tiny print (hard to read, especially in low light) that they AUTOMATICALLY add 20% service charge to all menu items! So even though I wasn't happy with the service that we had received at the beginning, we were forced to give a 20% tip. Typically we spend $300 for four of us at La Fondue, but this bill ran us $444 for the same food.
Overall the food and service (once seated) were good but I feel like we were gouged and given poor treatment. I will think twice before going back - we are going to start looking around for another favorite celebration restaurant. :(
We have visited LaFondue a couple times a year to celebrate for the past 15 years and have been missing it so we were excited they were finally able to reopen. However, some things you should know before you go. The COVID menus is set- there is no more choosing your own meat, cheese, and chocolates and cooking method. Unfortunately, the Mediterranean cheese is not an option. There are 4(ish) cheeses and 4 meat combinations you can choose from and you can only cook using the grill. Also, there are no more "extras" of your favorites. You basically get what you get and are happy to be able to dine out at $75 per person. All nonalcoholic beverages are $5 each. There is a 20% service charge added to all bills, which is also taxed since they don't put it on as gratuity but rather above the line. Overall, it was very rushed. They brought the grill to our table to preheat before we got the cheese and the server dumped all the veggies and 4 pieces of meat onto the grill when he delivered the entrée to speed up the process. Generally, they allow you to finish one course before moving to the next, but not now. I understand things are different due to COVID, but it made it a much less enjoyable experience and if it were always like this, I'm not sure we'd be regulars.
This is use to be my 100% FAVORITE place to eat... It's now another place that Covid has ruined.
Their menu shrunk majorly and went way up in price. They streamline you into a few options but charge you about 50% more. Service is way down. Our server was hard to find, drinks weren't refilled often, We had to sit in the old lobby and it was FREEZING because we were right next to the door, and there is now a "service charge" that ran us about $35 for a forced tip and PPE.
I wouldn't mind paying more money, especially because we know Covid has hurt them, but to cut the menu so much, and the service has dropped, it's longer worth it.
Amazing again!!!!This is our go to for all of
Our special occasions. It has yet to disappoint us
Menu was limited and I did feel rushed though my dinning experience. But Over all it was ok.
