Reserved a table for 4, and the other party ended up bringing their two teen daughters and our reservation was adjusted. This was pretty much the only positive thing about the experience.
We were seated in a weird corner of the restaurant that was way too dark (whereas the rest of the restaurant was normally lit) and seated next to 3 large groups who were incredibly noisy. I suppose it’s not the restaurant’s fault for the noise level but it seemed like we were purposely sat in the “ugly” corner, whether it was because we were dressed too casually or we had teens with us (the tables around us had screaming kids). Either way, it’s discriminatory and absolutely disgusting behavior.
Overall, the food was barely above average and not in line with the price tag. Entree portions are very small but quality is decent to good. Price tag should have gotten me high quality ingredients, though. The variety of bread, fruits, and veggies for the fondue were very limited and everything seemed kind of old and limp like they were forgotten in the back of my fridge.
The server mixing our cheese fondue made an absolute mess on our table by spilling cheese all over and didn’t even clean it up, not even a quick wipe. We were also served the wrong wine. When it came to the entrées, the server dumped half the meats onto the grill instead of just letting us do one at a time so we could keep track of what we were tasting. My friends who had been there before said that wasn’t typical service and it seemed like they were rushing us.
I would not recommend this place to anyone. It’s a huge rip off for hit or miss quality, flavor, and service.
Great food and extremely friendly staff. I will definitely be back!
Service was a bit slow and the food wasn’t as good as we remembered. Overpriced for the quality and quantity
Happy your full menu is back. Thank you so much. 💓
Delicious meal, great service. Cheese was mixed perfectly. Breads, fruits and vegetables all fresh. Thank you
I have a lot to say about our dinner last night and I have to say that none of it will be favorable. From the start, the waitress wasn’t very helpful with a somewhat complicated menu that you literally had to use a flashlight to see. Overall, it was gimmicky. They fill you up on salad, then chunks of bread to dip into the cheese. This is obviously designed to fill you up on cheap stuff so they can skimp on the meat and fish., which they did. We wanted filet mignon. The portion we got for 3 people was less than a 3rd of an actual steak. No, sadly this is not an exaggeration. I thought things would improve with the chocolate course. It was okay but we thought they would have had more fresh fruit with it instead of marshmallows and cookie dough, and stuff you could buy in any grocery store. It could have been special, but it wasn’t.
When you go to a restaurant with 4 $$$$, you expect excellence (at least we do). We’re happy to pay a lot of money for a great meal. This would have been more acceptable if it were 2 $$, but to pay over $400 for 3 people for what truly would cost less than $100 to put together made us feel a silly for making the trek from Alameda for my birthday. Not one of us would recommend this restaurant to anyone.
Always good food, service was ok. Filled our own water and champagne was room temp. Poured our own glasses as well. It's not so easy to share with dairy allergies....
The service was top notch. This is a great place to take a date for a romantic dinner.
New Year's Eve we arrived at 8:10pm for our 8:15pm reservations for outdoor seating. We were told to wait inside where at least five other couples and a party of six were also waiting. As far as I could tell, no one was offered a drink while waiting.
At 8:35, I inquired how much longer it would be, the host said he could seat us now. When the host started walking away from the outdoor seating, I reminded him our reservations were for outside. He said, "Oh, outside? You're going to have to wait a lot longer for that." So we agreed to sit inside. It took over 15 minutes for the server to come to the table. Another 15 minutes later our server brought glasses of water and the food items for dipping in the cheese fondue (the second course of the meal). The food just sat there as we waited for, and then ate our salads.
The staff member said they typically serve 100 people on a weekend night, on New Year's Eve, they had reservations for 300. Seems management got a bit greedy and didn't consider the impact it would have on the customer's experience or the servers' workload. Unacceptable at $135.00 per person plus gratuity.
Way overpriced for what we received, we were told the 4 course dinner was all we could order and was charged $413 for dinner. First and last time there
New Years Eve Prix Fixe menu. Service was excellent. Food was ok. Atmosphere is eclectic. Extremely loud. Hard to hear across one’s table. Price/value is way off. Very expensive for what one gets. Surprise 20% “Service Charge” that I did not see noted in advance. When I asked about it, the server represented it as a gratuity. I generally tip 20% or more anyway but I do not like a surprise “service charge” that is not spelled out ahead of time as is not my choice.
I will not return.
One can spend the same money and get better food and experience elsewhere with no coercive non optional service charge.
On open table web they had new year fixed menu and standard menu but when I get there I found I they only have a fixed menu. Dinner was for 4 people for almost $750
We did the prefix New Year's Eve fondue experience. Honestly I was expecting fondue through the whole thing but the entree wasn't described very clearly in the menu and it was more of a hot pot experience. The staff was pretty fantastic and when it was clear we just needed to go our server was able to get us out. I've got to say though for the price the proportions were ridiculously small. We made it clear that we didn't like seafood so they omitted it but didn't actually increase the quantities of anything else for us to eat. For the entree we actually had to cook the raw meat ourselves all the raw meat was laid out on the same plate and not separate and to me that's just food safety no no. I definitely wouldn't come back again because everything was pretty flavorless except for the chocolate fondue which was amazing. Like literally nothing was seasoned and even though they put salt pepper and not making the cheese it's still just kind of tasted like bland cheese. If you've been to La Fondue before and he loved it definitely check out this location because the service is stellar. It just didn't meet my expectations for either flavor or for portion size given what we paid for the experience. Also I would just like to add that their outdoor seating is not really outdoors it's definitely separate from the main indoor dining area but it's not enough ventilation and they don't seat you six feet apart if that is important to you.
This is a family Christmas time destination. A very unique and fun place to dine in high style.
Was a good experience but could improve in some areas. We were greeted at the door with “Do you have a reservation” not “Welcome! Good evening!” Or anything else. We were told we were seven minutes early but could be seated if we wanted. We were sat in an area with some very noisy groups so after considering, asked if we could be moved. We were promptly reseated into a quieter section but near the kitchen. Wait staff was pleasant but they had not tried several of the types of fondu methods ( there are only four). Food was very good. Overall it was a nice experience but further training and focus on the basics of a hospitality experience would elevate the experience and make it more in line with the price level.
It was our first time and it was better than what I was thinking. Get the La Freak. I got to try so many different meats that I would have never tired before. Plus you get the cheese fondue, salad and dessert with it.
One of the worst dinning experiences I have had in a long while. Waitress was very stand-off-ish and was not helpful in aiding us navigate the menu even after we told her it was our first time there. We bought cocktails/wine as soon as we sat down and she asked us again if we wanted refills before she told us our meal came with a free bottle of champagne. For such as expensive restaurant, the experience should have been better, especially for very mediocre food.
Wow, what an experience! This place was a wonderful and fun date night. It is interactive because you are involved in cooking your food which tasted amazing!
The only downside is that they were very short staffed (which is common these days cause of the vid) which made it challenging to chat more with the waitstaff. But overall a great experience and will definitely visit again in the future.
Always a pleasure dining here. My kids love it! Great food, staff and wine selection.
Christmas Eve dinner. The ambiance the food and service are great. Very enjoyable experience
Allana was the greatest!
I did not enjoy the dining experience. Neither did the other four guests that joined me. I found this restaurant to be an extremely expensive dinner for a below average experience. We were disappointed with the loud noise level, and the low level lighting was a nuisance since we struggled to read the menu and cook the food. It was a completely underwhelming and regrettable experience. There was nothing about the food or venue that makes me want to return. I have been fortunate to dine in a variety of cities in my travels throughout the world. I am open to all types of cuisines and settings. This restaurant stands out, but only for negative reasons. It tops my list for least favorite dining experience ever.
Birthday dinner good but way to expensive
This continues to be one of our favorite restaurants for special occasions. The food was great and the service was as well. We enjoyed our special evening!
service was horrible, we weren’t even brought waters and had to ask twice. no napkins were on the table
My family of 4 was seated at a table in an area that looked like an old porch. The floor was not level, we sat in plastic outside chairs & the table was stuck in a corner. I think the table was meant only for 3 ppl bcs the knobs for the burner we’re right where my son was sitting-the server kept asking him to stand up so they could adjust the burner. The lightening was so dark that we couldn’t see if our meat was cooked or not & the noise level was deafening. For the amount of money we spent it was definitely not worth it. Very disappointing
The service was fantastic, food was delicious, and the ambiance was superb. Highly suggest to anyone looking for a lovely night of good food and a great atmosphere!
I've been eating at this restaurant over 25 years. It is absolutely incredible! Delicious every time!
Overall very poor. The salad and the items for dipping and sautéing were pre-made and not fresh. The salad especially was tired and could have been sitting around for hours. The menu is a confusing mish mash and the server gets frustrated when diners cannot decide how to proceed. The staff was young and disconnected. The ambiance is old, overdone. The floor under our booth was greasy and sticky. They charge way too much for the poor ingredients. The wine list is completely inadequate. I would never go back.
Food quality is just as good as before but service has decreased quite a bit. Definitely not the 20% service that is automatically added to the bill.
Food and service was great. Only thing is that the bill included a service charge— automated tip I guess
One of our burners was not working. Understaffed -our server was nice and professional but she couldn’t keep up. Not her fault.
The meat quality was poor especially the swordfish scallops and filet.
Staff was friendly, helpful and attentive. Our overall experience was great from start to finish! Allot about 2 hours, this is not a dinner to rush through.
It was an OK experience. You need a PhD to figure out the menu if you have not been there before and our clothes picked up a lot of the cooking oil smells during the evening. The food was good and there is a wide variety of options. It is a leisurely dining experience that works well when you want to take the time.
We always enjoy our dining experience at La Fondue, as it’s not an average, run of the mill experience. We had a brand new server the evening we dined, and although she was lovely and did a good job for her first night serving, she was not terribly attentive. Now, keep in mind, this was a Saturday night, so we know the restaurant was quite busy, so it was understandable. It’s just, when you’re dropping a couple hundred dollars for dinner, you do kinda expect your server to be fairly attentive. In any case, our overall experience was very nice. We had a good meal in a less noisy part of the restaurant, so that was great. My only other complaint with La Fondue is the ventilation system in the restaurant. It is terrible!! We always leave there smelling like greasy food and you can literally see the smoke from cooking meat floating in the air. Not pleasant!
All in all though, we had a great evening. Good food, good company, eclectic ambiance and a very sweet server. We will definitely be back….
My favorite place to eat. I always come here when back in the Bay.
La Fondue is a totally unique dining experience! I highly recommend it
Had a wonderful experience. The food was great as always. Our server was fantastic. Alaina was very friendly and professional. My wife and I come here a few times a year. This is absolutely one of the best places to have a date night.
The Service was great . The place is cool looking .the food was no big deal the added on 20% gratuity was a shock we totally had no idea nor were they going to share that news with us ! When asked what was going on she told us it was on the Menu … never would we have noticed it ! I said as a courtesy it should be highlighted or brought to our attention . I was not pleased 3 of us Girls and almost 800.00 later Never Again ..
To be fair the Bar tab was 2 bottles of 130.00 bottles of Champagne 2 vodka sodas … NEVER AGAIN FUN PLACE THAT RIPS YOU OFF !
