The food, plating, ambiance, everything is amazing. The staff is impeccable (also very knowledgeable, provides great advice through asking about your tastes and preferences), and the chef himself is very talented and passionate.
If you’re going with a partner, recommend getting as many dishes as you can to try. Photos posted of the dishes I tried (all recommended!). My boyfriend also got this dish with truffles, and that one was ✨ too.
So bummed that he’s retiring, but after 32 years, I wish him, his family and the incredible team there all the best for the next chapter. Thank you for a dining experience I will forever remember.
I wish chef the best of luck in retirement and will miss this place immensely!
Sorry they’re closing- a very unique place that I would go back to
Always the best. Bisou!
Fabulous dining experience as always. So sad it is closing.
A memorable experience. Artful presentation. Lovely to meet the Chef and enjoy his masterful menu. The tables are spaced well, not overcrowded. Would love to see the restaurant go on forever - sad that the Chef is retiring and we have such a short time left to experience it again!
We wanted to say goodbye to an excellent restaurant. Everything was perfect from the tables to the menu and the service. So sad that they are closing. Such innovative delicious food. Everything works together and you can’t go wrong with any choice. It’s been a long time since we’ve been to such a nice restaurant that really defines fine dining. Adieu et Bonne chance!
What a great place to eat. We arrived a bit early and had a drink next door prior to dinner. The food was amazing at every course.
Superb! The finest classic French restaurant in San Francisco. Chef Roland Passot is a treasure.
My wife and I are very sad to hear that La Folie will be closing after all these years. This was one of favorite restaurants and we celebrated many special days here. Good luck to everyone at the restaurant!
Best Wishes, Wes N.
Our favorite French restaurant in the Bay Area. We have been coming here for special occasions for many years and Wednesday was our 38th wedding anniversary. Food and service, as as always, were exceptional. But a bitter sweet ending to our love affair with La Folie. We are sad since Roland Passot, chef and owner is retiring after 32 years. He says at 65 it's time to retire and move on. We will miss him and La Folie but wish him well and will always have very fond memories.
I LOVE YOU, LA FOLIE! The food was exceptional as always and I'll dearly miss you!
We are so sad that La Folie is closing. A truly memorable experience every time.
We always come here every time when visit SF, will definitely miss this place ... good luck and farewell!!
We finally had the opportunity to eat at La Folie. It did not disappoint. It's a special occasion restaurant. A must-go before it closes in March.
Amazing service. Classic food. Pricey but worth it.
This was our farewell La Folie dinner. Kudos to the chef, the kitchen staff, and our elegant and sophisticated server Mandy!
Bittersweet last visit to our favorite “special occasion” restaurant in the month before it closes.
Beautiful prepared for but taste was just ok. I enjoyed the restaurant and I’m glad that I got there before it’s closure.
Excellent food! The $45 extra charge for the black truffle over the ravioli was good. The extra $20 for the snake river ribeye was good. But the $85 extra charge for the waygu was superb tasty melt in your mouth delicious 😋. The portion was smaller compared to when they first opened we couldn’t finish everything, cost of a five ⭐️ restaurant has gone way up! Sorry to see the restaurant closing on 3/14! Happy retirement to the owner and chef 👨🍳!
Sad to see it close but enjoy retirement, Chef Roland!
Birthday . Great time
Amazing meal and fabulous experience!
We've been to La Folie many times over the past 20 years. It is consistently the best French restaurant in SF and one of the best restaurants overall. The meal we had last weekend was one of the best. Regrettably however Chef Roland Passot, who opened La Folie in 1988, let us know that he will be closing the restaurant in March. So there's only a short time left to enjoy his cuisine.
La Folie is a classic. Top notch across the board. There is a reason this restaurant has endured.
Amazing food and experience. Have been wanting to try it for a bit, and I’m absolutely planning to return. Highly, highly recommend.
Unbelievably great. The flavors, the presentation, the service and the unhurried courses are undeniably awesome. A fabulous experience and cannot wait to return.
Food was excellent.... services, as always, is top notch. The Som suggested a wine that was exactly what we were looking for. We were seated in the back (green) room this time, we have always sat in the front room until now. I love this room, it has high ceilings and an quirky decor that makes this room special. It is more quiet in this room and we will be requesting it from now on!
Personal and attentive service including some special meal prep and commun ication prior to and during dining . World class attention to details
For new years menu without compromise. Definitely highly recommend
Everything was superb, especially the service we received from Mandy. It is somewhat overpriced.
Food was great, right portion, good service
Fantastic dinner...excellent ingredients, beautifully prepared and presented.
Were not aware it was a tasting menu, and that substitutions would add so much to the total bill. Disappointing.
As every year we made our trip to SF, and La Folie for our culinary fix. As always, the food was exquisite; the flavors and presentations a feast for our senses. The service was courteous and impeccable. Thank you All for another memorable evening.
Very un-modern tastes. Maybe good 15 or 20 years ago but not up to standard today. The bread though was fantastic.
My favorite restaurant of all time. La Folie never misses. The restaurant has exquisite food, impeccable service and a romantic atmosphere. I love it.
A very special place and consistently excellent year after year. Perhaps the finest restaurant in San Francisco.
