The only pls
Food was very good but it’s getting more Californian than French.
We selected La Folie to celebrate my husband’s birthday. Despite noting this in the reservation on Open Table & as well, over the phone with a live person, when I confirmed the reservation they did not acknowledge the occasion. It was especially disappointing since we observed many other tables receiving desserts with candles. Overall the food was delicious with beautiful presentations. Service was a bit slow at the end, kind of feel like our server forgot about us after our 2nd course.
Excellent food and friendly chef
Best restaurant of San Francisco. Period.
Creative and wonderful cuisine. Terrific service and perfect for a special occasion, as it is pricey.
Our waiter was absolutely fantastic, very knowledgeable, attentive, and flawless.
Going to La Folie is like eating in a restaurant in Paris--more so than almost any other French restaurant that I have tried in North America. The food is authentically French, traditional but also creative; relying on local ingredients rather than specialties that are fresh in France but maybe not at their best by the time they get to California. The style is Lyonnais, but less fatty to correspond with customer preference in California. The wine selection, especially French wines, is excellent, and their sommelier is great at suggesting pairings and allowing the customer to select less expensive choices without shaming. While the place is not cheap, it is a bargain compared to most other Michelin-star restaurants in San Francisco.
Service is the very best I've ever encountered-Chef's tasting menu the most memorable in San Francisco. Lobster, Foise Gras, and the finest eye of ribeye like no other. Great portions and very much appreciated most wines being topped off with each course. Outstanding room and decor. Nice table side visit from the Chef himself! Absolutely a fine dining temple to France.
50th Anniversary
The food was amazing, the service was great. Truly great experience all around.
Caviar set up was out of this world - lobster and potato blini! Black bass in the saffron bouillabaisse was delicate and aromatically delicious. Lobster risotto with shaved black truffles was amazing. Actually the entire experience was noteworthy. We didn’t have room for dessert but watched other diners enjoy soufflés and tart tatins. Next time!
Best dinner experience.
To have a top chef in the kitchen every night is a rare treat these days and it showed in the food. Absolutely exceptional dining experience.
This place is absolutely amazing!! The best restaurant in SF!!
No complaints. But there are a lot of better restaurants out there.
We had a wonderful time dining at La Folie for my birthday this year. My birthday is just before Valentines so restaurants tend to be overcrowded but La Folie in spite of the crowds delivered excellent service and attention. From beginning to end our meal was outstanding, very creative and delicious and rich and beautiful! The chef de cuisine even came to our table at the end of the evening. It was fabulous and i would be happy to return next time i'm in SF.
Great but the foie gras was totally overpowered by the balsamic vinegar sauce. My only complaint.
Always wonderful and consistently above and beyond service
We went to La Folie for my birthday. I had been there almost 30 years ago and remembered it being delicious. It is still delicious! A lovely room, impeccable service and great care for my gluten-free husband made us feel cozy and comfortable right away. And then dish after dish of creative combinations with unusual sauces, some truffles, some Wagyu beef, a candle on my chocolate-passion fruit Bombe - yum. I could not have asked for a more perfect birthday celebration and there were 2 other birthdays being celebrated as well. I will not wait another 25 years to return.
The food and service are exceptional. I could not have asked for a better experience.
As always, the best French restaurant in San Francisco. A must go to!
Service is flawless and Chef Roland never fails to delight.
Extraordinary experience!
Took my husband here for his Christmas present - we were seated in the back room, which is quieter than the front dining area. The meal was superb from start to finish. We were once again reminded why we love this restaurant.
It was magical. Incredible from start to finish
We chose La Folie for our 25th Anniversary dinner and couldn’t have been more impressed. PERFECTION.
We had a wonderful birthday dinner tonight at La Folie. The seared foie gras was delicious (honestly my favorite in a long time). Next favorite was the ribeye. It was cooked to perfection. The chef came out to greet us and asked how we liked our dinner, which to me was always a good sign of restaurants that pride themselves in their work. Overall, the staff was really friendly, and greeted us like family. I would come here again.
Just a bit average for a Christmas Eve tasting menu.
The ultimate dining experience . We attended the special 5 course Christmas menu prepared by the renowned French chef Roland Passot who came out to greet everyone. Tres chic Bravo .
Food presentation was stunning, service was absolutely amazing. But the taste of the food and for the price it wasn’t that spectacular. I’ve had better tasting food elsewhere for much less that was organic and high quality.
Always a fabulous dining experience from start to finish. The food was brilliant, the service was excellent and relaxed, the ambience was elegant but not too formal. I would give it six stars if I could.
We have been going to La Folie for several years. As always, the Chef’s creations were original and full of flavors. A delight for our palates. The service was irreproachable.
With our sincere appreciation for another wonderful culinary experience.
I do not go to S F very often, but through the years La Foli has been a consistent restaurant for a great meal, and it never disappoints.
Our first visit-wife's birthday. Service was superb. Food was very good though some dishes better than others. I had beef tenderloin, Lobster with Bisque, Fuyu persimmon and pear salad, and a cheese souffle/blueberry desert. Beef among the best I have had in nearly 50 years of dining out. The rest was very good as well. Lots of lobster w/the bisque; nice use of Fuyus. Wife had Seared Foie Gras which she loved, lamb chops, and a cheese souffle. Son had squab, quail, fuyu salad, a cauliflower soup, lobster rissotto, and a cheese platter. None of the dishes were average; a few just stood out from the others. We bought a bottle of champagne which waived the $50 corkage for the bottle of Bordeaux we brought with us. Two of us had coffee, which was very nice. $644.89 plus gratuity. Not as pricey as some of the higher end restaurants, but we thought that the meal was a dash short on the use of spices and creativity - but just a dash. The price compared to food compared to some lower priced competitors (e.g. SPQR) was on the high side. Still, a very nice evening. Would not turn down an offer of a return visit.
Amazing food and service! My husband and I came here before we saw the Nutcracker for a dinner date. Our reservation was at 5 pm and they assured us we would be out by 6:15 pm to make the show. Our uber was running late so we were 15 min late for our reservation. I had called to let them know we were running late. The staff was so nice and accommodating!! The food was AMAZING and unique. I will definitely come back! We did not feel rushed at all and were out the door by exactly 6:15 pm. Highly recommend for delicious food and amazing service!
Delicious and consistently wonderful food and service. Love La Folie.
Easily one of the best meals I've ever had. In any city.
Every part of the experience was excellent from booking the reservation thru dinner. The dining room is very attractive. Service was the perfect mix of knowledgeable and attentive without being overbearing. Pacing was perfect. Dinner itself was phenomenal. It's not inexpensive but at no point did I feel the experience didn't justify the tab. I though chef Roland stopping by the table to see how we enjoyed dinner was a nice touch. Hats off to him and his staff... for a restaurant that's been in business for so long, they clearly don't rest on their reputation. Just a great experience in every way.
Extremely overpriced at $200 per person with one glass of wine. Watch out for supplements. They are NOT worth the cost.
The food was absolutely decadent!! A true indulgence.
Probably the best meal we have had......bar none and well worth the price.
