We were there celebrating my son's birthday. He is a foodie and enjoyed the meal very much. Our waiter offered excellent service. Portions were generous. Wine list was extensive. Roland Passot visited each table at the end of the evening to say hi and that was a nice touch. We have gone several times to La Folie over the past 20 years and the food has always been reliably good.
Excellent service and excellent food. I can’t wait to return!
We loved our experience at La Folie. The food was unbeatable, and the chef even stopped to say hello. We want to come back again and try new things as the menu changes.
Exquisita comida, excelente servicio! Fui por mi cumpleaños y tuvieron maravillosos detalles! Lo recomiendo mucho!
The tasting dinner was truly wonderful. Very artfully presented and absolutely delicious. Service was impeccable.
Very friendly staff, chef and owner. Its a must try in SF
Everything about our experience at La Folie was absolutely excellent. Wonderful service from our server and sommelier, and it was such a pleasure to meet the chef. Can’t wait to come back!
La Folie is always among my favorite dining spots in San Francisco. The service and food is consistently spot on, making for a perfect date night.
We found La Folie 3 years ago for our first wedding anniversary and had such a great experience that we decided that we wanted our anniversary date to be at La Folie every year. This year was no different. Excellent food, great drinks, and exceptional service. One of the reasons that we like La Folie is that it's fine dining that's not on every "must trys" at San Francisco. At least, it's not the first things that come up on every search. It's still special to me and my wife.
Buono il vino il locale avrebbe bisogno di una rinfrescata
Exquisite French cuisine.
Starting with the caviar was wonderful
Cheese soufflé a must !
Highly recommend it
We had caviar with champagne. We then moved into our soups of lobster then corn. I was excited for the rabbit in three ways and snake river beef from Idaho was fantastic! Beautiful courses and delicious meal at every turn.
This used to be my go to restaurant for foie gras, but the portion is now smaller. However, it's still a good 5oz. This is a fine dining restaurant if this is what you're looking for, but I'm sad that the foie gras portion is now smaller than when I used to come here, but it's still a generous portion.
Wonderful food and service. Flowers were beautiful. The server and staff were very attentive. Even the other diners were friendly. A very special evening.
our experience wasn’t great. Thought food could be better and there’s a lot of up charges. Maybe expected more but I can see why it’s no longer a Michelin star restaurant.
Food and service exceptional! Wine was excellently paired with an outstanding recommendation.
Service was outstanding. While the food was visually quite stunning many of the courses on the palate tasted rather average. We were there for a special occasion which, while was verbally acknowledged, was not noted with even a small culinary gesture of celebration. Sad.
This is a terrific restaurant. Every dish was perfectly prepared and presentation ranged from really good to stunning. Chris, our server, was excellent - he was very knowledgeable about the menu and exactly which wine would compliment each dish. The kitchen is fantastic. We had a wonderful meal.
La Folie is a classic French/SF restaurant that continually evolves and improves. We've been going for many years so have been able to experience the evolution of both the restaurant and the kitchen which is led by Chef/Owner Roland Passot. One great thing about La Folie is that Chef Passot is almost always in the kitchen working. This past week when we visited, he came out to visit with the diners for a brief period as is his custom. The menu consists of two multi-course options: 1) a seasonal special, 2) 'build-your-own' 3, 4 or 5 course menu. I had #1 and my wife #2 and every dish was well executed and creative. Often you get one or the other. The service is attentive without being over- bearing or overly friendly, in other words - professional. The restaurant has two dining areas: the back room (Green room) which tends to be a little quitter and the front room which tends to have a little more energy. Both are quite nice. You can't go wrong with La Folie as a special occasion restaurant.
We really enjoyed the items we ordered and our waitress was very informative and helpful.
I meant to treat myself and was disappointed.
Porcini mushrooms and sweetbreads were tasteless and dry.
The cheese was unmemorable.
Same with the wine.
it was not worth the price.
A perennial San Francisco favorite!
First class food and attentive and friendly service!
Chef/proprietor is always onsite and stops by to greet the guests. Nice classy touch.
La Folie is the best French restaurant in the Bay Area. The foie gras is fantastic as is the A-5 Waygu. Advance order the lobster and sweetbread tower as it is amazing. Roland Passat is an amazing chief and I cannot understand why this restaurant does not have 3 Michelin Stars. Great bar and wine list. Highly recommend La Folie!!!
We dined here for a friend's 70th birthday, we had a wonderful server, lovely cocktails, lovely food portioned nicely, especially the duck, and lovely dessert. The birthday boy was very happy to meet the chef and receive an autographed menu for the evening. A few comments, the lighting was very bright, not cozy and convivial, there is a sense of time warp here, and the pricing is high, but the experience was one to be remembered.
Oh. My. Goodness. The tastes, food, and wine service were exquisite. So delicately done be the chef ( who came out to greet everyone). We were at French Laundry 2 weeks ago and this was better! Ask for Mandy as server. She is so knowledgeable and attentive ❤️❤️
Very good wine choices
👍 very good very good
The food are very salty
Food was great but very slow. It was boring waiting so long between courses
Wonderful beyond words! An amazing place to have the best meal and service in San Francisco.
You know what to expect from a traditional french bistrot and La Folie did not desapointed. Perfect comfort food with very good wines suggested by the sommelier. Totally recommended!
Birthday celebration,excellent customer service
We went for our anniversary and the hostess was great at greeting us. Our disappointment was in our server, who did not explain the menu nor any of the dishes to us. We would ask about specific dishes and her answer is "it's good." Q: "What kinds of wine would you recommend?" A: "French, of course. You're in a French restaurant.". We felt a little rushed to order since our server lacked the personal services we were seeking at this level of restaurant. I don't know if it was just us as we heard her explain more things to other tables without being questioned.
The food is fantastic. The other servers who brought the food were great. The hostess was awesome. The only thing that dampened our experience was our server.
Fantastic in every way. From service to food, haven’t had such a great dining experience in a long time! We did tasting menu with wine pairing. A perfect, exciting, delicious meal. We will be back!
From the minute we entered the door, we knew we were in good hands. We had a great table, an experienced and knowledgeable server, who knew absolutely everything about the menu, and also had excellent suggestions. I highly recommend this restaurant for any occasion, or just when you know you want the perfect meal and perfect service. It deserves way more than just five stars!!!!
We loved everything about this place, the fact that Chef Roland Passot after 30 years since the restaurant was open is still in the kitchen, says it all! We had a 3 course dinner and my aunt and I couldn't finish the Entre, we were staffed and I hated that I had to waste the remainder of a wonderful steak. The presentation was great, the food was delicious the waiter was professional, helpful and very attentive. Make sure if you have any further engagement that follows your dinner here to inform your server and he/she will get you ready by the time you need to be out. I was traveling out of town but I certainly hope to be back some day soon!
The only pls
What an amazing, beautiful meal at La Folie! Classic French cuisine updated to 21st century palates. I highly recommend La Folie! Only one small complaint: décor needs to be updated a bit.
Food was very good but it’s getting more Californian than French.
