Spectacular dinner, service & room! Wonderful French cuisine, very attentive service and that rarest of treasures, a QUIET ROOM! You could actually have a normal conversation, without yelling! La Folie and Quince are the top restaurants in SF IMO.
Amazing. Loved everything, including tempura duck egg, risotto, quail/squab, and cheese souffle. Friendly, professional service. Loved this restaurant. Will return!
We've been going there for a long time, and it is consistently excellent. What we are impressed is you always see Roland Passot, the chef owner at the restaurant. When we go to high end restaurants with noted chefs and high reputation, they are often not at the premises at the time of our visit. What do they all do at a peak dining time? So we appreciate the Chef Passot always keeping a keen eye on everything at La Folie.
Amazing food, knowledgeable staff, and the history of the Chef are reasons to come experience this fine dining experience. Chef came out to chat with us and we had fun talking with him.
Excellent food, ambiance and service. Would highly recommend the experience.
Prices on the menu were confusing, and the bill even more so. Wine by the glass was a very small pour, especially considering the price.
Wonderful restaurant in the heart of Polk. Food is delicious and thoughtfully constructed. Much to choose from prix fixe menu. Everything was well prepared and tasty. The wait staff was attentive without being intrusive. Great place to celebrate with friends and family.
We have been fans of La Folie for years and our enthusiasm is strong as ever. The level of cuisine here is breathtaking. I enjoyed the crispy sweetbreads, lobster risotto, duck and Edam cheese soufflé last night. Each dish was satisfying perfection. A wonderful place to enjoy the best of French cuisine.
The evening was just a wonderful dining experience.
Fine dining at its best! We dined with La Folie to celebrate an Anniversary, and they never disappoint!!! The food is always incredible- the service is always spectacular- and the whole team helps to make for an overall incredible experience from start to finish, time and time again!
The wine pairings are generous pours- and well worth the cost. We have never been disappointed dining with La Folie, and we certainly weren’t this time!! While everything we ate was a taste bud dream; the Tempura Duck Egg, Frog Legs, Golden Caviar, and Duck were top standouts from our meal. We are happy to give them all our money, and wish we could give them a 10/5 rating!!!
If you’re looking for a traditionally fancy, quiet, full course dinner with super attentive waiters, and you eat meat, this place is for you. We were looking for a nice restaurant and they had a vegetarian pre fixe menu, but it was mediocre - almost every dish was some version of asparagus and mushrooms, and it just felt very uptight ambiance wise. In general, would only recommend this for people over 50 celebrating a special occasion.
We've dined here before, and our memories served us well. This is a wonderful dining experience. The food is thoughtfully prepared, the waitstaff is excellent and the ambiance is very nice. Since the last time we dined here, the restaurant has been redecorated and it looks very nice. We ordered a la carte, but the chef is reasonably flexible in his tasting menu as far as choices and substitutions go. Food was very tasty, served elegantly and the extras (amuse bouche and post dessert sweets) were a very nice touch. Highly recommended.
Always a wonderful experience. My wife is a vegetarian and we often find it difficult to find a restaurant that has truly rich and complex offerings for vegetarians. Along with their 4 and 5 course tasting menus, they have a vegetarian option. It looked so good, I gave that option a spin also. AMAZING.
If you want an exquisite food experience, try La Folie...not easy on the wallet, so this is a once a year treat for us...a perfect special occasion restaurant. We had wine pairings with our four course meals. The waiter lent us his extensive wine knowledge with each pour. He also had a perfect sense of timing, and throughout the entire meal he was non-intrusive and there at the exact right moment.
The food is creative, delicious and beautifully presented without being ostentatious...such food deserves beautiful presentation! I recommend without reservation.
Service and food were fantastic
We went to La Folie with another couple to celebrate our birthdays. From the moment we entered, we felt welcome. The service was impeccable and friendly. I got the 5 course Prix Fixe. Each course was a masterpiece, beautifully prepared and incredibly delicious.
Absolutely magnificent! Each course was beautiful, seasonal and delicious. Quail stuffed with squab - amazing. La Folie is elegant with impeccable service. It feels as if one has taken a trip to France without the flying time. A very special place, indeed.
What a gem! Although the main course was delayed, it was worth the wait. Our frenched rack of lamb was cooked deliciously perfect “medium rare plus.” Our first courses were equally delicious. The 1er Cru red Burgundy was priced in the ball park. The room is beautifully appointed with rare wood paneling, heavy burgundy drapes and lush upholstered banquets.
An absolutely amazing experience, I would definitely recommend La Folie for a special occasion.
The wait staff were terrific. Every request and need was met. We were well taken care of for almost three hours. The food was masterfully executed and plated. It is a pricy experience but well worth it. I would rate it up with Meadowood and a tad below the French Laundry.
Excellent experience. The food was phenomenal as well as the service
We had the most amazing experience at La Folie. Each course was a delight and the wines were perfectly paired. The service was exceptional and the staff knew everything about every dish we ate. It was a very special experience.
Each item I was served was a taste masterpiece, and the 6 courses were an ode to the flavors of peas, asparagus, celery, and artichokes. The staff was well prepared to provide me with a vegan version of their chef-choice 5-course dinner. Each dish was thoughtfully prepared, with exceptional flavors, interesting plays on textures, and creative presentation. The celery seed soup had lovely, balanced flavors. Incredible morrels were part of the vegetable celebration in the final savory course. The service was attentive, perceptive, and friendly, but not overbearing. The decor takes you back to a mid-90s casual vibe, and was a bit of a mis-match to the quality of the food and service. The music seemed a little dated and out of place as well. Overall, i greatly enjoyed each course, and the wine list was very nice.
Outstanding food and wine service. Masterful cuisine. Duck and squab were works of art. We always dine here when we travel to SF
Excellent food and service! Great for a date night. I think they could do a little decorating. Would definitely go back!!
Love the place as always, definitely a go back!
A lovely restaurant with amazing food. Wonderful staff . The corkage policy is a bit pricey especially considering the price of a meal
Fantastic wine list both menus were outstanding. Service flawless. For a foodie/wine person La Folie is the place.
The appetizers are amazing, however, the main course is a little bit salty to us. Thanks for the chef’s birthday gift to my wife.
Food amazing, service impeccable, atmosphere elegant. Will come again and again.
This was the first time dining in your restaurant and we were impressed by the attentive services and the quality of the food.
La Folie has been our most favorite restaurant in San Francisco in the past decade. The food and wine is superb and the service is always excellent. This time we thank our server Mandy and sommelier Rob. We'll be coming back to you for many more years.
like dining at your own chateau. they were beyond kind and the food is unbelievable. from the chef coming outside—in the rain—to help us with our parking dilemma to the best hostess in the city and the lovely waitstaff, la folie was formal without being stiff and with great warmth. (only one other time has a chef greeted me in the rain & that was last year in sweden at daniel berlin krog.) mixing-and-matching courses across the menus was a delight. the cocktails were outstanding & the food was incomparable, the asparagus soup (available to vegetarians and omnivores alike) & the beef & the frogs legs were standouts. thank you—
Excellent service and great food. Highly recommend you make reservations.
Prix fixe is too much would like the ability to dial it down to 3 courses or ala-carte.
Famed restaurant did not live up to us billing, and our billing. Poor service for the price - over $1,000. Didn’t have a waiter - sommelier filled in. Knowledgeable enough gentleman, but no serious description of dishes for the chefs tasting menu. Washroom was a mess, and quick look at kitchen showed chaos. Disinterested front door staff couldn’t be bothered to arrange for taxi, and when sommelier arranges for one, my wife was advised to jump in it while I was getting ready so taxi wouldn’t run off - couldn’t be bothered to endure driver that there was a tare. Chefs tasting menu and wine pairing were on par with what you expect from a fine dining restaurant but service frankly on par with a take out.
Another amazing experience at La Folie.
Lovely service. They have vegan option which is nice. The food is incredible. 100% recommend
Food is okay, overpriced for Valentines day
