This was our first outing to LaCoteD'Or since the new owner took over. We knew the original owners and had several special occasion family events at the restaurant. We were saddened when we learned of Ramon's death and did not know what to expect with the turnover. However, we were delighted to see that high standards and delectable food continue to dominate. We definitely will make LaCoteD'Or a special occasion place in the future.
Nice to rediscover Chef Jacques of previous owner of Mediterranee Restaurant (Great Falls). We loved visiting Mediterranee and missed it, when it was closed. It was great pleasure to dine at La Côte d'Or Café and enjoy wonderful food. Everything on menu is great and you will not go wrong. The ambience and service is just like good old Mediterranee Restaurant . Friendly and welcoming staff with visits from the chef. It is like visiting a friend for dinner.

La Cote D'or consistently delivers on a terrific dining experience. We shared a chacuterie platter, and it was just the right amount of appetizer food. The lamb was amazing as a main course as was the scallops and risotto. Service is terrific, the presentation is what you would expect. Thank you La Cote D'or for another great dining experience!
One of our favorite places! Waiter suggested a wine by the glass that I hadn't tried, and was kind enough to bring a taste first, which allowed me to try it, but then order something I liked better. Pea soup was wonderful - light and smooth with great taste. Scallops were delicious. Hubby liked his plentiful salad and the halibut dish. The raspberries caramel were just that -- warm raspberries, placed artistically stem-side down to fill the shallow dish, in warm caramel sauce (not creme caramel).
Although a little pricy because of the small portions, the food was very good. A nice selection of wines and a kitchen that was very accommodating to my date who has a few allergies. The only drawback was the noise level...it was very loud and I found that I had to ask my date several times to repeat herself. Having said all that, I'd definitely go here again.
This was our first visit to La Cote D'Or. we happened to be in Arlington and was looking for an interesting restaurant to try.
The food was delicious! We had the sandwich of the day that had a combination of meats and additional item which gave it an interesting and unique flavor. It was very good! The other entre was Quiche Loraine with a side salad. The quiche crust was reminiscent of puff pastry and the filling was delicious with a lot of ham chunks. The only slight downfall it is was just a tad over baked. It could have be a little less brown in the top. But, that didn't detract from the quiche. The accompanying salad was plain but had a wonderful creamy and gently seasoned salad dressing. The salad was garnished with a lightly marinated carrot shavings. Our soup was a vegetable with broth soup with plenty of vegetables with a slight anise touch. Finally, the bread was fresh with a crispy crust and soft, flavorful bread.
We will definitely visit La Côte d'Or again for a lighter meal and dessert! Haven't had Floating Island in over 30 years! We would recommend it to friends also.
We took advantage of the Early Bird Prix Fixe menu and had the DR to ourselves for a while early on Saturday. It filled up as our meal progressed, but noise level stayed very comfortable since most tables were 2 or 4. Delicious French food, and attentive, capable service, but not pretentious. French vocal music is a nice, unobtrusive background. Their special deals are making this our "go-to" nice place when cooking at home is too much. And they are very creative in how they wrap up food you take home!
Though I would never have guessed from the outside that looks like a diner, once we entered we found a lovely small restaurant, European cuisine that is nicely prepared. Interesting menu with different meals than the standard American fare. Presentation of the food was well done Service was excellent and they were very attentive to any requests.
Can't wait to return - there were many dishes that I want to try
We had a lovely Restaurant Week Brunch on a Sunday afternoon. There were quite a few options to choose from. The dining room was decorated very nicely with fresh flowers and was busy but not too loud or uncomfortable.
We had a vegetable soup and house salad, fresh bread and entrees of Quiche Lorraine with a side salad and Rainbow Trout sautéed with an almond butter sauce. All very good.
There was barely room for dessert, but we had a few bites of an apple tart and creme brûlée which were both yummy. We had fresh coffee, served in our own mini pot accompanied with a chilled pewter creamer decanter. Cute!
Service was good and we enjoyed our meal without feeling rushed. We definitely will be back.
A delicious French meal adventure for what could have been pretentious. We had the Restaurant Week's Brunch menu, which is a great way to try out new dishes. Loved everything and will come back to try out more off the menu. Excellent attentive staff. Quaint and homey decor, but felt like we were at a friend's home. We were overall pleases with the experience. Definitely, make reservations during busy times.
Must have arrived at a busy time. Reservation for 115p, not seated until 130p. Although we ordered immediately, we didnt even get appetizers until 210p!! We were seated directly behind a bridal shower lunch in the enclosed patio area, which made for a very loud lunch. The ladies behind us were having a great time, but the small enclosed space made it very noisy for the other few tables in the area.
Needing to leave by 245p, I hoped 1.5 hours would be plenty for a prix fixe lunch. On the contrary, we only had appetizers and entrees, and had to take desserts to go. The desserts we ordered at the beginning of the meal ( they requested all three courses ordered from the start ) was no longer available by the time we were eating entrees, so we had to choose another option ( from an already limited list ). I got sent home with stale Profiteroles for dessert.
The apps and entrees were good, but the wait staff was clearly overwhelmed. We only saw the server when I stopped her as she passed by between helping the Bridal lunch and heading to the kitchen.
I've previously loved La Cote D'or, and maybe this visit was a fluke bad experience, but I was surprised to see no management or supervision anywhere throughout the dining experience. Really disappointed after making a special trip. With all of the amazing options in the area, they really need to step up.
Went during restaurant week, many choices for each category (apps, main dish, dessert, wine list). We had the cheese plate, French Onion Soup, Cod special, Hanger Steak with fries, apple tart, and chocolate mousse. Excellent recommendations from the wait staff. Entrees were very flavorful and fair sized portions. Will definitely try again!
The seating room on the side of the building smelled musky. The food was unimpressive, either over or under seasoned. The selections of the cheese platter were common cheeses one finds in a supermarket. The pork loin entree was huge and partially over cooked. The leg of lamb was salty and tough. The mushroom pastry that came with the lamb was unappetizing both to the eyes and the taste buds. The bread pudding and apple tart were again ordinary and unimpressive.
A real gem of a French restaurant in a quiet section of Arlington. It will remind you of the many small restaurants in the French countryside. The wines are mostly French, as they should be, and I appreciate that the list covered most of the wine regions in France. The cost of the wines is a true value. Look for good representations from Burgundy and the Loire.
It was Restaurant Week so we chose that menu, although the regular menu was available, too.
My first visit since it reopened and I think the food is even better than at the old Cote d'Or. Our onion soup appetizer would have been enough for a meal, but we still had two more courses. The broth was rich and savory, the melted cheese abundant and the crusty wheat bread had both texture and flavor.
The trout almondine was perfectly cooked and paired with a tasty, piquant sauce. The sides of chunky potatoes (lyonnaise?) and zucchini strings were delicious. It was too much for me for one meal and I took about half of it home.
The dessert of chocolate crepes was nothing special. The crepes were thin with butter flavor and a chocolate syrup on top. My friend had the apple tart, which looked beautiful; she was very pleased.
Our waiter, who had worked at the old Cote d'Or, was wonderful - couldn't have been better!
