Used to go there 10 years ago, the food then was OK. Then we moved away a bit further away from the area so haven't been there for quite a while. Researching for good French restaurants around DC, VA area and found the restaurant has changed ownership. The food is as authentic French as it gets in the U.S. The servers were very attentive, plus everything is reasonably priced. Weill definitely go back.
I was a bit worried after reading several negative reviews however decided to give it a shot anyway. I love really good French Restaurants and this place did not disappoint. Went to celebrate A birthday and it was fairly busy when we arrived (7:30pm Saturday evening) The staff was dealing with a busy restaurant so our wait seemed very short given the situation (maybe 5 minutes after seating we had bread and water delivered). Appetizers we tried were the Caesar salad, French Onion Soup and the Escargot. All tasted amazing, the soup was hot and very savory. The Escargot was unique for me, never had it with the bread on top but I must confess it was very good this way!
My entree was the Ribeye it was cooked to perfection, and one of the better steaks I've had in a long time. My dinning partner ordered the Seafood stew and was very happy with the flavor and outcome.
Don't listen to the haters try this place out, every place has good and bad days, I expect not so perfect days on Saturday evenings but was surprised at how well they did.
Cote D’Or is simply the best kept secret. We always enjoy our meal and experience at this lovely neighborhood French restaurant. The meals are always fresh and well priced. Best Caesar salad ever. Lovely soups and other French inspired treats.
The food was well prepared and delicious. More remarkable was our ability to dine at a leisurely pace. Never felt rushed in order to turn the table.
A little gem of a restaurant. In McLean, where I live, we no longer have a French retaurant. Cote d'Or has become my go-to for French cooking. The bouillabaisse was excellent as was the accompanying bread and spread. My friend had a New Orleans-style muffaletta sandwich that wasn't up to New Orleans standards, but wasn't bad, but proably shouldn't count in a review given that it isn't authentically French either.
Always a great place to linger!
Still a local gem, I maintain my 20-year appreciation for the place. I really enjoyed my wine, leek soup, crusty bread and delicious fish special. The rubbery creme brûlée, however, was a disappointing way to finish an otherwise very nice dinner.
This is an excellent place. It's in our neighborhood and we go fairly frequently. It's always good. If you go early you get one of the early specials. Everything is good, particularly the soup.
La Cote D'Or very consistently serves excellent, authentic French food prepared in the classical style. Their bouillabaisse and pate are great. Good wine selection.
Delicious authentic French food. Have kept up their standards over a long time period - not to easy to do. Professional staff. A very intimate, quiet, leisurely atmosphere.
Good food, lovely ambiance. The restaurant changed ownership a while back, but the quality is still the same.
Both the decor and the food put one in mind of a French country inn, something you'd never guess from the outside appearance. Prices were modest for the quality of food and wine. My friends and I were able to linger over an excellent lunch and enjoy conversation without getting hoarse from shouting or getting rushed to the door. A totally enjoyable meal. We will be back.
My husband and I were catching up with my youngest daughter who had just returned from a 3-week trip to New Zealand. She was sharing her photo book. This was a perfect environment, and the food was perfect. We could easily talk and hear about her trip while we had a lovely brunch. Not easy to find these days. Thanks.
Food was less than mediocre - very salty, meat was tough, sauces thick and without any real flavor. Wine was a problem area as well. Wait staff was however terrific and attentive and friendly. And atmosphere is wonderful. Allowed to linger. Stay away from beef, without question.
Always love both the food and the quiet atmosphere here. The food is delicious, and we can actually hear to have a conversation without shouting.
We had a wonderful dinner and the attention to our needs by the staff was exceptional. This was a "thank you" dinner that I hosted for people who had had me as a guest in their home for several days, and it fit the bill perfectly. The food was very good, the ambiance was very pleasant, and my guests felt like I had taken them to someplace special.
Always a charming atmosphere with welcoming service and good food. The bread, salads and soups are always marvelous. I had delicious fish which was a large portuon that I took home and enjoyed next day at lunch.
La Cote D'Or is one of the last neighborhood French restaurants left in the area, and that alone makes it worth patronizing. The food and service are both very good, and the prices are reasonable given the quality of the food. What I don't like is that it is small and the tables are close together. So it can be very noisy, and you have the sense the waiters or other patrons are about to trip over someone or something and land in the middle of your table. Having said that, I like the place a lot.
Perfect in every way.
Great food and service
Great offer for NOVA Restaurant week! Enjoyed the meal very much. Authentic French validated by my French friend who was at the brunch!
Spending an overnight in Arlington, I booked this restaurant based on the menu and previous reviews. We luckily were there during Restaurant Week and ordered a three course meal at a great discount. Each course was authentic to French cuisine and absolutely delicious. We will definitely return there in our next trip to D.C.
My entree and my date’s were not good at all. My pork schnitzel was overcooked. My date’s bouillabaisse lacked piquancy and was surrounded by large, bad-tasting mussels. Perhaps the kitchen was overtaxed by restaurant week, but I won’t be going back soon.
Had a table out on the porch for a late Sat afternoon lunch. Nice ambiance and good for quiet conversation! Mixed reviews on the food. 2 in my party had French Onion Soup and Crepes with Chocolate Sauce which both found very disappointing.
Had a lovely lunch here on Thursday. Pate was excellent. Friends raved about the potage. Coq au vin was deliciously rich. Mussels were big and plump. I would have preferred a wine rather than wine/cream sauce but quality of mussels was very high. All in all a great time
Always a great choice for catching up with friends!
Good food, decent service, pleasant surroundings. A bit pricey for lunch.
I was surprised at how small this Bistro was and how extremely limited parking was. The small dining room lent itself to the higher noise level from patrons having conversations amongst their friends and family. The chairs were extremely uncomfortable for me and my wife as they were very narrow with arms that afforded little room to relax when seated. My wife and I tried the two different beef dishes on offer. My wife's steak, while good tasting, was extremely tough and chewy. My dish was well prepared but the beef was also rather tough despite the braising. Perhaps the butchering could have been done to where the beef cubes were smaller. I was surprised to see several drop ceiling tiles completely out of their places. Something easily repaired given a little attention to detail. We also ordered a side to share. It was the creamed spinach. The spinach was fresh but it was overly salty to the point where my wife would not eat it. Seasoning vegetables requires a delicate balance. This was clearly unbalanced. Although I did tell the waiter, he made note of it but offered no remedy and went about his business. If I were in his place, I would have offered to replace the dish with another preparation.
I've been to La Cote d'Or several times with friends but encouraged my husband to celebrate our anniversary there. The restaurant is intimate with nice tablecloths and fresh flowers, and we can actually converse with out struggling to be heard. The food was delicious as always--both my husband's steak and my trout, as well as our appetizers and desserts.
Place has gone way downhill from recently changed old ownership. Place is dingy, chairs are uncomfortable, service is spotty at best. Go on a busy night and you’re going to want to pull your hair out waiting for your food. Once it arrives, the food is just ok. I hate leaving bad reviews—I never do—but this place needs a wake up call.
An authentic French gem. Warm, quiet, professional service, substantial entrees. One of the few restaurants where I would trust the Carl's liver ( excellent). You can hear others across the table without shouting or straining. Lovely room.
We were old friends meeting, the table we were given was perfect for a group of 7. My dinner was excellent. Someone said the coq au vin was tough. Our waiter was very attentive and polite.
This restaurant is one of our favorites in this area. The servers are professional and the food is delicious.
We returned to an old favorite & it was delightful as always. Attentive service, good food and charming atmosphere.
Aspects of meal were tasty- frog legs were cooked perfectly. However, everything needed salt.... Profiteroles were ordered for this special occasion and if one wishes to splurge on dessert, they should have been filled with real ice cream- tasted like ice milk product. Really wanted to love this "authentic" french restaurant.
La Cote D'Or is always great. The food is very authentic, the service attentive, reasonably priced for what you get and for this area. We've never had a bad experience there.
Best service ever!!
Great waiter and made recommendations that definitely provided a more enjoyable experience and chance to experience the better food on the menu for that evening. Always a great experience at this local favorite. Kudos!
After a too long hiatus, I went back for lunch. The shrimp salad, French bread and wine were all top notch. The service was impeccable. La Cote D’or hasn’t lost a step.
