La Cote D'Or
This restaurant has lost all its allure... It feels old, the food has become worse than mediocre and while it’s not expensive by French restaurants ‘standard, it’s not worth it - a major disappointment to one’s wallet and palette. Only three tables occupied on a Friday evening and the food was darn near inedible (steak frites, veal, mussels, vegetable and salad all were v poor -
only the frites were good (actually excellent) . Needs a full refurbishment. Sad for what once was a classic
Order coffee and I think it was instant coffee. Asked and I was snapped at.
This is a wonderful little restaurant, conveniently located. The food is delicious and the prices are very reasonable. We dined there twice during our most recent brief trip to the Washington DC area. We had seafood including mussels and scallops -- all of which were exceptionally tasty and nicely presented.
I've been going to this place for years. Service and food are excellent. If they would cut back on the portions I could try more courses.
Not worth 55 bucks pp. portion sizes small and most of the food needed salt. We had lamb med and it was def rarish. No sauce, just meat no seasoning. Creamed spinach was just that, cream and spinach..no cheese, no salt..a little bitter. The brozino was good, but if u have ever had brozino, its usually the whole fish and not just a half fillet. Now what was excellent were the french fries and the cheese platter, however theres not much to cook on that.
We had a delicious Sunday lunch for Father’s Day. We ordered the prix fixe menu which included smoked trout and cold cucumber soup for appetizers, salmon and a seafood crèpe for the main course, and chocolate mousse and a floating island for dessert. The service was professional and prompt. We look forward to our next meal at La Côte d’Or!
The food is absolutely fine, but the service is so bad. The waiter, who with all due respect cannot pronounce the name of the French dishes his restaurant is serving, couldn’t fathom an extra espresso shot in our two orders if caffe latte! He kept saying: we cannot do it because it is a machine that makes the latte. I had to explain to him that he can make an extra shot of espresso and “manually” add it to the latte, and charge it to our bill. It still took him a while and a couple of repetitions to get it. He also brought us clearly old berries as “fresh” fruits. When one of us said but they clearly look old, his answer was: we cut them yesterday and kept them in the fridge! Finally, the decor look so old and outdated. The chairs have sticky spots as if they have never been cleaned.
Wonderful evening celebrating Father’s Day! Food was delicious and noise level was low so we could actually have a conversation without yelling.
Great French food prepared in the traditional manner.
Wonderful! Reminded us of a dinner in Paris.
Brought a foodie couple to this restaurant for a mid-week lunch. They couldn't say enough good things about the food and the service. We particularly enjoyed the beef "cigar" appetizer, which was beautifully presented and had interesting layers of delicious flavors that kept us coming back for tastes as we tried to guess what all the ingredients, sauces and flavorings were. Soup, salad, and entrees were all delicious, as was the raspberry and caramel dessert. We will be back!
Very good neighborhood dining experience with a nice menu and attentive service
Wonderful birthday dinner, delicious meal.
Excellent food great staff would highly recommend!
good ambiance and reliable food, location is easy to get to by metro or driving.
Escargot was good. Service was good. Mussels were extremely bland (I even added my own butter, salt, and pepper in their white sauce for flavor but it only help a little bit). My other recommendation is for servers to smile a little bit. They don't seem happy to be there. I've also been there a dozen times and always get treated like a new customer. A nice touch is to remember your frequent customers, especially for such a small place.
Lived this little quirky neighborhood gem. The food and wine were excellent and very reasonably priced. We will be back!
Excellent as usual !
Good place for lunch with the ladies. Dependable French menu items, fairly prices.
Excellent experience. It was my girlfriend's birthday so I wanted to treat her to something special. This place did not disappoint. Wonderful french country atmosphere, excellent service, delicious food.
We celebrated our anniversary here, where we also had our first date! The food is beautifully presented and delicious; mostly classic French but an extensive menu with some unique items. Excellent attentive service. Reasonable prix fixe or you can order à la carte. Magnifique.
Parking was available...a nice surprise. We had reservations and were seated immediately. Had the three course lunch special and it was a good value. Food was delicious. We will cone here again.
Food has greatly improved in recent years. We particularly appreciate the vegan entree. Service was attentive. Only complaint are the chairs. Most uncomfortable.
Great food and drinks at reasonable prices. Outstanding service (as usual). We normally ask for Paz, who has been our server the past five-six visits. My wife likes this restaurant for special occasions; her birthday, Mother's day, our anniversary, etc. We have never been disappointed dining here.
Excellent. Pricey, but worth it. Service was excellent and the food delicious.
We have eaten often at La Cote D'Or for many years and continue to enjoy the staff and the food. Our most recent visit was disappointing because the service was far below what we expect, ranging from not being served the usual basket of bread to failing to have all of courses served together as we requested. And, the waiter took our order orally then came back with a pad a took it again and one of the dishes was not what we ordered. If we had not many excellent meals with attentive service in the past, I would have given the restaurant no more than 2 stars due to the poor service.
The service was slow, but kind. An hour and a half would have been fine, but it was taking over 2 hours. That's not the first time.
The onion soup was perfect, not too salty.
The profiteroles had been defrosted and refrozen.
The liver and artichokes were good.
I will always return.
We loved the special Algerian dinner and enjoyed the meat couscous, appetizer dips and the lovely dessert. The portions were very large, and we took the leftovers of each course for dinner tonight! Thanks for a lovely evening!
The lunch was to celebrate birthday of a best friend. Unfortunately, she ordered a sandwich which the bread was too hard to eat or cut with requested sharp knife. I regret not sending it back. The 3-course meal outstanding as usual. A sad experience for friend & me.
Outstanding, as usual. Have never been disappointed here.
My family enjoyed a nice dinner. It was especially nice to have good food and service, and to not feel rushed in any way. The staff was excellent and loved the ambiance.
A favorite restaurant at the wrong time. Early afternoon reservation put us near closing time -- 3 pm. No problem but...perhaps related: Very hot plate; very almost cold quiche. Items incorrectly put on Easter menu and explained away by that when asked "where is either the listed FF or salad. Once 3 pm came, we were an afterthought with staff.
A surprising reversal of usual service and food but enough to suggest caution in the future.
We had Easter lunch at Cote d'Or and the restaurant made it a special occasion for our family. The service was friendly and attentive; the food was delicious; and we enjoyed sitting next to the window in the quieter side dining room.
Excellent service and quaint French ambiance. Wonderful dishes and good value dinner choices.
Great food, great service. Though, for a French restaurant, the dessert options are limited and not very French in nature.
Everything inside the Restaurant is perfect. Only the outside parking is limited.
Having passed by this little place for years, we finally visited and thoroughly enjoyed our experience. If you need a fix of good French food, try Code D'Or. Though not exquisite in the French sense, it was completely enjoyable. Looking forward to returning.
Overall this was a very nice dinner and enjoyed it very much. My only problem, is I remember the food as being outstanding, although this was a few years ago since I had dined.
Great place to take a date or your parents as food is always, dependably good and a good value.
